I run a ATI super dampr on my 540...but have also used fluidampre in the past...nice balancer. Don't get a cheapo in my opinion.

jrthone 06-04-2008 11:43 PM

What about Pioneer. Are they ok?

Not trying to hijack this thread or anything but what is the benefit of putting a fluid dampner ( balancer ) on a rotating assembly that's already been internally balanced?

The balancer is just neutral anyway correct?

I thought they were only of benefit on a motor that was externally balanced?

Learn me.

Good question...I had one on an external balance 454 but have the ATI on my internal balanced motor.

ashtrak 06-05-2008 04:01 AM

ATI the only way to go IMO

john858 06-05-2008 04:45 AM

I think your terminology is getting in the way. It is not a balancer it is a vibration dampener. Doesn't matter if it is internal or external balanced engine as far as the job the dampener is doing, it only matters as far as whether or not it has the extra balance weight on it for internal or external. It still does the same job on either. I hope this makes sense.

i have a lunati internaly balanced, don't for get to use a good SFI
flexplate to balance your internals and i'm using a ATI internal
slug, take your flexplate with your crank to get them balanced
and good luck with your sbc

ATI!!!

TheRabbit 06-05-2008 03:53 PM

ATI only!!

jrthone 06-05-2008 04:33 PM

Yes it is stock 1.76 but she will be changed very soon to a 1.80 straight cut.So Pioneer dampners are no good and i should go with ATI or Fluidamper

jrthone 06-05-2008 04:36 PM

Cepx111 not all fluid damper are zero balance i have a fluidamper on my 468 and its an external balance one with a counter weight in it.

john858 06-05-2008 05:44 PM

i have never heard of pioneer but i do know ati's the best. 180's asap :D

jrthone 06-05-2008 09:31 PM

Is there anything wrong with Fluidamprs

NO...they are a very good balancer. I don't know why everyone says ATI is better than all else...maybe they are, iduno, that's what I have now, but The fluidampr I had was a nice piece. Sold it when I built this motor.

signsbyesa 06-06-2008 09:29 AM

you can check out these guys and ask them about theirs, you might
be surprise who the supply http://www.catpep.com/
I put a bbc block together for a friend and used their lt. wt. h-beam
rods and asked them for a stretch number for their bolts and he
told me "The torque is 65 ft-lbs and stretch is 5-7/1000". Thanks for
your question, we sold these rods over 20 years, we supplied to EAGLE, SCAT, LUNATI, and TOMEI before"
just another conection  good luck

dampner

ATI is the only way to fly. They can be recertified, and rebuilt if need be.

jrthone 06-14-2008 01:28 AM

I ended up buying a Fluidampr. Nothing against ATI.

Ok but if your engine is balanced INTERNALLY like most racing engines you would need a NEUTRAL or ZERO balancer and flywheel ( no counter weights ) If your running a dampner and flywheel with a counter weights on a internally balanced engine your basically negating that costly balance job> Cp

jrthone 06-15-2008 04:36 PM

My fluid dampner and flexiplate are both nuetral.Thats what you have on internally balanced motors isnt it ?????

Yes definetly, neutral for internall balanced and counterweighted for externally balanced.
