MILODON OIL PUMP.....what a joke.
I just got my new MILODON oil pump from Jegs...costs twice what the melling does...I have a new Melling but everyone has me afraid of it . SO I ordered the Milodon cause they say they have billet gears and yada yada...well I got it today and open the box and inside I find a MELLING M77HV pump exactly like the 34 dollar POS that I already have...SAME CASTING NUMBERS SAME EVERYTHING...SAME FREAKIN' PUMP. ..EXCEPT IT was 87 dollars after shipping. I called Jegs who told me Melling makes the pumps for Milodon....Well DUH!!! I can see that Mr. Wizard  ....so they give me Milodon's number and they tell me that they bought a "Couple Thousand" of them from Melling 5 or 6 years ago when they were "GOOD" and that they have billet gears and have been "GONE THROUGH AND OPENED UP AND EVERYTHING LIKE THAT" those were his words. I said "PFFFT."
This pump is going back so basically I just gave jegs about 20 bucks for shipping for nothing...what a crock. Is there any pump worth a hoot besides the 400 dollar gerators? If I wanted a M77HV I would buy one for 34 bucks not 72 plus shipping. |
pump
check out the cvr pump they sell a 4340 pump and a billet pump and they claim that they are billet gears

marksdragster, im looking at the cvr catolge for 2008 and on page 25 of cvr they show a pic of a steel body pump made of 4340 part no op455 for a small block and they have billet gears, but the book i have only goes to page 27, that is what i have in my book but i could be wrong

Or you could order a Titan through me for a litle more than the CVR Spur Gear Pump in the Billet Aluminum housing and get the real oil pump that is made to order to fit your pan depth and set to the bench pressure you ask for and is fully tested prior to shipping and is oily and wrapped in clear paper to keep the oil from leaking out. That is proof it is bench tested. Each one is tested. You get the pickup depth for what you need.
Only problem is some pans the Titan Pump will not fit because of the way the pan is made. Moroso on purpose tries to keep their pans from fitting but Titan has made slight changes to shape and can fit some of them. Can not post the prices. Can respond back by email. [email protected] Ed |
Must be new.

I bought a Sportsman Titan internal wet pump. My OLD Moroso pan didn't fit, and I had to cut out the corner and have it tig'd back together.
Aside for that hassle, I took the pump apart from curiosity. Simply the nicest oil pump I've ever had the pleasure of viewing. |

Any opinions as to whether this milodon pump is any different than a regular melling? sure looks exactly the same and yes I took the cover off and looked at it. I can't tell any difference. |
Not everybody has $300 to $400 to drop on a oil pump I feel your pain Todd74
Somebody could make a fortune making/selling billet gears for M77HV's Hmmmmmm.... |

What was the part # of the Miloden pump you brought Tod74?
|
18760
was for a BBC They (milodon) told me they haven't released their own bbc pump yet that melling was the only ones who made a casting for a long time. Their website is misleading..cause they have a big picture of their small block pump and the casting says Milodon...so I just assumed they made their own pumps. Not the big blocks. |
I cant find any info that says the miloden pump comes with billit gears for BBC. Well nothing under $100 anyway.Where did you find that info out?

Somebody could make a fortune making/selling billet gears for M77HV's Hmmmmmm.... Don't know about you, but I put new pumps on my motor every time I put new bearings in it. Cheap insurance. I figure over the years, I've spent about 1k in oil pumps (at around 100.00 a shot). So now, instead of continuing, I bucked up and bought a 400.00 pump that I can send back to Titan for freshening at the end of every season. It's more expensive up front, but it's cheaper in the long run. |

I put in a Melling M-Select Oil pump it was $62 I think and has a bolt on pickup and seems to be alot better piece than the regular ones. It is a 70Lb pump with 10% more volume. The part number is 10552..
Here is the link... http://data.melling.com/Select/small_block_chevy.php |
They all have PM gears, Melling, Moroso, Milodon, including the Melling Select pumps. CVR and Titan pumps are the only ones currently using steel gears, except Moroso's gerotor pump. They all buy from Melling except for CVR and Titan. Don't waste your money.

I dont like the idea of Powdered metal gears at all myself .. but have to ask ... If they make Connecting Rods that way, why wouldnt an oil pump gear work out ?
I have heard about and seen the newer main bodies crack or break. But I havent heard or seen anything about the gears breaking. Has anyone else seen / heard differantly ? |
