hey big ray... i've got a timing lite... that is what i used to set it at 38... was just saying i adjusted it by "ear ... where it sounded good"... found it was WAY ADVANCED....like 48... that is my problem... 34-38 it goes slower.... thanks caveman :? :? :?

hummm 48 and it still likes it, and it doesnt back lash the starter,, i would think its got the wrong balancer or the wrong pointer or something, i would pull the #1 plug and really check for TDC and make sure that TDC is in line with the pointer at 0 degrees or at least close to it,,

well... went to the dyno today.... the car has 298.7 hp.... timing was at 30... set the timing to 38.... went 299.7 not enough differance to run that high of timing.... only gained 1 hp of torque... vang... the dyno guy said to run a much hotter plug and set timing on 32....the car will be dead on...also my fuel ratio was 13.3... at w.o.t..... the fuel is not burning...thats why a hotter plug... any more help would be great!!!! i'm open to suggestions... but the motor is only a " 331" c.i.... thanks caveman... :lol: :lol: :lol:

what type of heads do you have? Have you had any port work done on them? What size primarie's and collector size? As far as your total ignition advance, if you don't run 38 to 40 degrees or more, as Zip said, your engine will not rev up quickly, everything else being equal.

From what I've gathered over the years, although I could be waaay out in left field ;
Dual quad tunnels usually work best on high winding engines, consequently the airflow volume is way high. High flow heads and exhaust are instrumental in overall performance.
