1989 @ Memphis Motorsports Park
I was in car club named the river city air coolers - we held a benefit race for St Judes childrens research hosiptal at MMP. I ran what I thought was a very fast 69 bug, I believe the ET was in the 14 second range, I practised at several test and tune sessions prior to the event and I killed them on the light all day, ended up winning 1st place in super street. I still have the pay out envelope to this day but the money has long since been gone, but I've been hooked ever since. A win build's confidence right? Ran the regular bracket program the very next weekend and got my a$$ handed to me every round....lol Sold the bug, bought a 63 falcon futra V8 and tried again with better results. Great post. Thx, dparker for bringing back some very fond memories. Cp |
1970 at the old Alton Dragway in Alton Ilinois. Best ET was 12.73 112mph
in my 67 Gold Camaro 327 3 speed. The car I have today is an exact replica of that first car I bought and drag raced back then. Good times in the Good ol days |

My first pass was in my 79 Nova with a 396 & a turbo 400. It was at Eldora Raceway in Fairmont WV. in 1985. The track was renamed to Fairmont dragway and closed in 1999. I drove the car in on a Saturday afternoon, bolted on a set of JC Penny Scat Track slicks (How many of you heard of those?) and ran a 7.55 in the 1/8th and like most of you I was hooked.
