Swiley383 01-30-2014 06:18 PM

My brother, dad, and myself installed the new heat/ AC unit my dad has his lincese from a former part time job years ago and saved us a crap load of $$$$. We had to run some new gas pipe and we also leveled up the slad we were planning on doing this in the spring anyway. It's nice and warm in the house now.

Good to hear that everything is back to normal!

Well the temps are kind of up here, saying maybe up to 6" more snow tomorrow and the extended forecast says we might get anywhere between 6-10" come this Tuesday! Does this winter ever end!?!?!?!?!?

Rabbit is correct about the events.
1. Tractor trailers started it off by loosing traction and blocking the interstates.
2. Locals (yes they all left at once with the busses) took to the side streets, clogging them completely.
Now for the stupid response: "Let's thru a bunch of money at it. We will buy spreaders and snow shovels and all the required storage and maintenance and training so we will have it the next superstorm comes thru."
Then in 2019 when the next storm hits, the equiptment will be rusted or cannot be located and nobody who was trained on it works for the city anymore.

We got 12inches a few days ago...snowblower decided to give me trouble.lol thank god for 2 sons and 2 shovels....Boy did they WHINE FOR AND HR....

TheYellaBrick 02-09-2014 11:31 AM

Finally been getting piddles of the white stuff. We're only at 64% snow pack in our watershed. Gonna be a bad summer for farmers and fires, I think.
California is already burning ....

shybx1969 02-09-2014 12:40 PM

This yr in upper ny state we are gettin more cold than snow.from albany south...is getting buried this yr...Doesnt hurt my feelings...Thats why a lotta people i know are converting sleds to ice/asphalt racers..Not getting the snow to warrent the cost..

Amen old and tired on the snow the local weather forcasters are saying this next snow should be something SC has ever seen. we shall see.

Harbone 02-10-2014 04:12 PM

come on guys, its just snow and ice!

Weekend before last we had almost 8" of snow. Last Tuesday night and Wednesday morning we got another 4" mixed with high winds. My normal 55 minute drive home on Wednesday was an hour and 45 minutes. Thursday morning was even worse, 2 hours to get to work. The whole interstate for almost 30 miles was a solid sheet of ice with accidents everywhere.
You cant call it "black ice" when its visible!

We have had an 85% power outage since Wednesday. Over 125,000 homes without power. It rained, sleeted then snowed then the temp dropped to about 25. Not long after that limbs and trees started falling everywhere. News said there were thousands of trees / limbs blocking roads so for a while all roads were closed and people were told to stay home. I could here tree limbs falling all night and yesterday in my neighborhood.
The roads froze over but weren't all that bad.
Many people have been without power since the storm started.
Probably more than half of all stores, grocery stores and gas stations are without power. My parents got hit really hard and have trees down all over their property. One storage shed hit, but no damage to their house.
I'm doing fine. I still have hot water, kerosene heat and my little generator for light and running my refrigerator. I took most stuff out fridge and packed in a cooler with snow but didn't have enough cooler space for all of it.
There is some power one block over from my house so I hope I get power back today. All the power for my neighborhood is underground so I have no idea where the problem is.
I did get out a little yesterday and it seriously looked like a small war zone with so many trees / mostly limbs down everywhere. Lots of trees / limbs on houses and cars and in the road.

I knew it was a bad sign when jim Cantore came to Augusta! He can leave now and I would be just fine!

shybx1969 02-14-2014 05:28 AM

Sorry too hear...Hope things get better (power on ) by end of day..

Swiley383 02-14-2014 10:39 AM

We had a bad ice storm back in the 90s and were without power for 11 days and that was inside the city limits of Nashville. It sucked. My grand parents live in the country just north of Nashville and were out for only 2 days.

Same here Rabbit. Everyone knows I cut a LOT of firewood in spring. We had plenty of that and my generator with plenty of gas. All is good.

We had several news stories air about people pretending to be stranded and when somone stopped to help them they got robbed.

Swiley383 02-14-2014 11:15 AM

That just makes a bad situation worse when people do bad things to those who want to help.

Harbone 02-14-2014 11:42 AM

Stay strong boys, keep the fires going, send the kids to bed early and snuggle up with the wife. Just do its "safely" so there is not a influx of births 9 months later :!: :!: :D

man ain't that the truth Bone.....Gonna send you over a text ( Pic) of what I was doing in the fire Pit outside keeping watch Wednesday....Many were stranded near the house and a bunch of shady looking younger guys walking on the road with mask etc...I am sure they were just Cold and it was nothing to it...but since we live sort of out off the beaten path and communication being down I took no chances... also there was a rash of people acting stranded and Robbing People.

TheYellaBrick 02-14-2014 12:59 PM

And THIS is just a lil ol' ice storm where 'life' is only on a very short temporary holding pattern....Just a tiny eentsy bitsy taste of the first week of an EMP attack ....... Should be enough of an eye opener for those who are awake, into knowing where to beef up your own deal.......

Always better to have something and not need it than need it and not have it. I sure wished when our heat was out we had a fireplace.
Has anybody talked to Outlaw isn't he in the middle of all that mess to?

Harbone 02-15-2014 05:04 AM

Bjuice you southerners are crazy, up here we put our fireplaces inside the house!

So I hear that South Carolina had a earthquake last night?

We got another 5" of snow yesterday, that's 41" for this winter and 12" already for the month the February. The temp here right now is 0 degrees again, this has to end soon... :x

oldandtired 02-15-2014 05:11 AM

Strange week.

The 2nd snowstorm of the year in Atlanta and an earthquake north of Augusta (about 115 miles from my house). I bet BJ felt it too.

Heck ya my outside man cave..lol...I burn wood there and have a buck stove inside.

Hell ya I was sitting in recliner about 10:30 pm and the window panes started rattling the metal blinds clinking...it felt like a combination of being right beside a train track and a low flying jet this went on a good 10 minutes.

I looked at my wife and said WTF !!!!!!!!! I even went outside to see whatever..I had no clue what I was looking for.....at that time my smart phone pinged with an emergency alert "EARTHQUAKE"...about 15 or 20 minutes later we had an after shock.

The 8 yr old got all upset and crying....

We are on a fault line and the quakes will happen so often. They always catch you off gaurd..this one was bigger.

Now check this out. Ice snow Wed and Thursday..60 degrees Friday with a Earthquake and all snow gone...WTF !

Sc has had over 40 Earthquakes between 2006 and 2012. I do not know the #s for 2013 and 2014.

Yeah Harbone they are a little different. Now as far as snow we are just over 120" so far this winter. A little above normal.

Swiley383 02-15-2014 03:33 PM

I was in a earthquake sevral years ago here in Tennessee. The quake was very mild can't rember the reading but it was a very strange feeling. No damage to anything I can rember in the area. What about you guys any damage? I have not seen the news in a couple days hope everything is ok.

TheYellaBrick 02-15-2014 05:08 PM

TheRabbit 02-15-2014 07:31 PM

Thanks for the update DD.

Happy ice storm, happy valentines day and happy earthquake day all in the same week. Lol.
My house is almost right where the quake started, but I was at my parents house when it hit.
My parents finally got power back on at 8:15 tonight. My mom has been pretty tough through all this, but it was about to get to her this afternoon. They have been using my old generator but it's been on its last leg since the last race I used it and it died this morning. Needless to say there are no generators anywhere around here. After they fixed the down power line she said she's never been so excited to hear a toilet flush in her life. Lol

This is a small example of the mess they have. They have close to 1000 trees that lost their tops or lost limbs. I planted almost all of them by hand about 12 years ago. It'll take us all summer to clean it all up.

Harbone 02-16-2014 11:18 AM

Glad to hear Outlaw is doing OK

Everybody else get dug out and have power now?
