I have never shot a black powder I want to just have not. For handguns I like everything single action, semiauto, DA revolvers dose not matter. I can't afford most of what I want. I seem to be looking at more older stuff in the last year or so old S&Wand Colts are really getting my attention recently.Like I said can't afford them but love to look. The coolest one I have is a old S&W 38spl I think it is a early M&P model from the early 1900s I am going to send off to S&W and get a histroy letter one of these days. The rest I have are mordern stuff like a Springfeild XD45, S&W model 66 357 among otherthings a glock is on my to get soon list. I have a few others pistols and long guns these three are my fav in the pistol catagory. The old 38 was a hand me down from my greatgrand father to my grandfather then to me it is the first pistol I ever shot

I agree there :!: I have a semi auto Remington 1100S 12 gauge, you just dont get that scary racking sound with it but with 1 in the chamber and 4 waiting to go, as fast as I can pull the trigger, it sure is fun :!:

Nice Shotgun...I had one back in my high school years...would like to have another !

Swiley383 04-17-2013 03:26 PM

My dad has a 1100 nice gun that gun has broke many skeet in its day. I borrowed it a few months ago to shoot some skeet with some guys I work with for a $50 gift card provided by my boss. I won that was great since I have not shot skeet in a few years. Any shotgun with 00 buck is a great defense tool. Hard to beat the sound of a pump having a round racked into the chamber. I do not think there is a person out there that dose not know what that sound is.

no go on the state to state carry permit but, it is something. Sure its not over, but it is the right direction.

I am partial to the 38 spl myself Swiley. This was the first firearm I carried in Law-enforcement a SW Model 10 Nickle plated oversized wooden Grip. We up-graded to the Sig P226 9mm which is the early model of what the Navy Seals carry today as their side arm. The Seal version has the 20rd magazine we had the 15rd. Best feature of this weapon is the de-cocking lever which is a great feature when dis-engaging under stressful conditions..I am not a fan of the 9mm as personal defense because of the speed of the round. Its notorious for passing thru a target, It takes a well placed shot which the Seals are trained to do..The seals will be hitting you with their HK 417'S and their MP5'S long before their Sig will be used...lol :D . I never have figured out why the Military in GENERAL got away from the 45 caliber they are heading back in this direction, Even law-enforcement agencies are getting away from the 9mm and back to the 40's..

As for the 38Spl I still own the same model 10 SW today. We were given the option to purchase our service revolvers when we changed to the Sig. When I was with the State trooper we had SW 357 with Silver tip HP rounds before going to 40 cal glocks.

The 870 pump is also close to me ...carried this in patrol car 5 yrs. I dispursed many of rowdy crowd by getting out and RACKING a shell.

My Wifes CWP weapon is a 38 Spl SW 5 shot hammerless 642Model. Got her a Crimson Trace laser Grip a few weeks back..Greeentip Critical Defense rounds.

My choice would between the .380 LCP ruger or the Walther 1911 semi Auto 45 cal...All depends on where you go.

Big Victory on Many levels....this will require another thread... I'm sure Yellow Brick has something to say about this topic.... :D

Swiley383 04-17-2013 06:21 PM

My uncle was in law enforcement for well over 20 year. He has kinda the same story the S&W 38 he was first issued he purchased when he made Sgt. The issue for the Sgts was a stainless steel S&W38.When he was later issued a Glock 17 he purchased that gun as well and the same thing when they switched to 40cal. Then he retired a few years ago and was given the Glock 40.This is were it really gets interesting my cousin is now a officer for the same department. My uncle gave him the S&W 38spl J frame that he carried for backup for many years. My cousin now carries that J frame for his backup. I also carry a S&W 642 most of the time for my main carry gun. The XD 45 also is carried sometime like you said depends on the situation. It is just hard to beat the ease of a small 38 in a pocket holster for day to day carry. The 870 is anther fine shotgun I have very reliable. I would love to have an 870 wing master to go with I love walnut stocks on a shotgun.

Swiley383 04-17-2013 06:29 PM

I'm guilty of taking the wood grips off my S&W model 66-2 stainless steel 357mag. the wood grips look great but with full power 357 mag loads I like to shoot (so dose my wife) the Houge sure are easier on the hands. I do still have the wood grips and keep saying I'am going to put them back on until I pick up the gun then change my mind.

Harbone 04-18-2013 11:45 AM

I also have a late 70's Wingmaster 870LW in 20 gauge I inherited from my Grandfather. Its a great skeet gun and yes the walnut stocks are beautiful!

TheYellaBrick 04-18-2013 05:26 PM

Pachmyer's on my Ruger Security Six 357Mag. Grip is EXCELLENT with sweaty palms ! It is NOT my CC (prints BIGtime) but I do occasionally carry it in a shoulder rig out in the hills.

THERATTLER 04-18-2013 05:59 PM

well , here in Mississippi starting in july you can open carry without a permit. and conceled carry no longer has to be conceled , but with the cc permit you can carry conceled ,sounds confusing but its not , EVERYBODY has a gun , oh no , even littlerod...LOL

quote :" Pender - Mississippi becomes open carry state with new gun law"

I’ll say it again: House Bill 2, signed into law by the governor, allows a Mississippian, with or without a permit, to strap on a pistol and stroll about in public.

That fact appears to now be dawning on some folks, including law enforcement and even some lawmakers who passed the bill, which becomes law July 1.

The new law defines concealed carry, saying a gun doesn’t have to be fully concealed as long as it’s in a proper holster. But it also states that openly carrying is allowed. A permit is required only for concealed carry, which no longer has to be very concealed.

Swiley383 04-18-2013 06:26 PM

Nice to see more states doing open carry. There is a lot to be said about open carry a great crime reducer. Who is going to rob a store if most of the people inside are armed. The people up in Washington should take note that these states will not give in to there anti gun schemes to disarm the people who obey the law.

Even when I carried concealed with my tee shirt pulled over my holster its sort of hard not to notice a 5inch Barrell 1911 45 semi-auto. lol.

I am not one of these guys that carry a impotent weapon like some do.Mine is chambered with hammer back and safety on ..one flick of thumb and squeeze back strap and WE HOT !!!

Brick I was thinking about you the other night when they were having a segment on the first round of M16's in Vietnam..they said the slightest dirt or dust would cause a jam.. Said the soliders were in heavy fire fight and catch a jam. The tried cleaning their m16's while taking on AK-47 rounds. NOT GOOD.!! U remember those days brick ?????

TheYellaBrick 04-18-2013 08:12 PM

Too many times Juice. A lot of the SF guys would pack AK's and chance catching friendly fire, cuz you could pull them right out of a mud hole and they'd work. The 16 was the beginning of the 'new breed' of war rifles and they had much to learn and apply from our 'field testing'......

Any one yet tried the new Frog Lube ? LOVE it ! They send lots of it free of charge to our troops in the rock pile and our guys/gals eat it up. Do a google for 'frog Lube'.

Swiley383 04-19-2013 04:51 AM

Thats the only way to carry a 1911. The 1911 is the most battle proven sidearm out there and you can't dispute the stopping power of the 45ACP round. Brick I will bet you guys trying to make those M16s work would have loved to have had the M14s back.

Harbone 04-20-2013 01:12 PM

I love how this started out as a "whats wrong with the forum" post and now we are talking about our favorite guns!
Thats what make you all a great bunch of guys!!

Still havent heard back from PJ though :?: :?

TheYellaBrick 04-20-2013 04:35 PM

I wielded 14's in basic training. HEAVY LOG compared to the 16. And then packing lots of 7.62 ammo as well was ARG ! Wasn't ever privileged to subject a 14 to what the 16 went through, but talking with vets who did, they had a LOT less jamming issues with the 14. The M1 carbine woulda been better than the 16 in the early years. Short, light, accurate.
The modern AR type base is sooooo much advanced, LIGHTER, and doesn't jam as easily as the early 16's. With all the body armor they have to wear, ANYthing to lighten the load and still pack lots of water and ammo is priority.

Swiley383 04-20-2013 07:18 PM

The AR have come a very long way and still getting better. I know a lot of the high end ones ($$$$$) have gone to a piston system rather than a gas tube. The M14s are heavy I have handled a modern version the M1A1 I am sure they are lighter than the originals. That 7.62 ammo is bulky to carry for sure. The AK 47 is anther great weapon that has stood the test of time although often used against our troops or newer versions of the rifle (AK74).

Heck yes on the 7.62 rd. Most units today has a minimum of at least one soldier armed with a 7.62 cal rifle normally their unit sniper. The freaking round goes thru freaking block walls ETC enemy gone.
I went to PSA yesterday with wife and looked at the AR10 Armalight 762.51 NATO rd. Which is a .308. $1300 plus tax. Price coming down

That is not too bad for a AR10. Prices around here are coming down as well I have not looked around much the last 3or 4 weeks. I don't have the money right now and looking just makes me want it more. I hope around June I can start my AR15 search again.

Well Swiley Your patience is paying off. I went by Academy sports today and they had a Stag Arms .308 /762.51 for $1098.

Also saw some .556 55 grain ammo FMJ at ACE HARDWARE for 11.99 . same Box On-line as low as $9.99 a Box..

So yes its coming down.

Also did you see where Stag Arms is making good on their promise to leave Conn ? Rick Perry from Texas made them an offer and said bring it on we want your business..
Stag reported a $50k per week payroll..No telling what that state will lose in Revenue/Jobs/etc.....I hate what happened there it was Sad...but now comes another Tradgey with lost Jobs and income for that State all in the name of Quickly pushed political agendas.

I mean look at the people passing the Gun laws in these states like NY.. 7 round Magazines..LOL ?...the manufacture didn't even make 7 rd magazines so they went back and re-wrote the law to allow 10 rd magazines but you cannot have anymore then 7 rds in the mag at a given time...LMAO.

The only Thing I wish Now is that Stag would have come to SC.

Swiley383 05-04-2013 07:18 PM

I had not heard about Stag moving to Texas. I wonder how long it will be before the non gun friendly states will be complain about lost tax revenue? That sounds like a good price on that rifle did you pick one yet? The last I heard Stag was something like 70,000 rifles on back order and a year behind. The fact that they made good on there word to relocate says a lot. Stag sure dose make a good rifle I hope they are able to expand in the process.

I just Wondered why mine is still there ?

Ok lets work on this together and see if we cannot stumble on fixing it.

Do you house your Avatar Pic in PhotoBucket ? If not try loading up from your Computer.

Harbone 05-11-2013 07:15 AM

The problem lies in I can not open the "profile" tab at the top of the page, when I click it all it does it take me back to the RJ main page. Thats where you load your avatar on your profile along with all your settings.

Harbone 05-31-2013 01:28 PM

Never heard back from PJ, would still like to at least be able to access my forum profile so I can get a avatar loaded. I have not given up hope but I have aged a bit since this post started. :D

never did...gonna call his office once again...this can't be a hard fix....stay tuned....5:43pm Friday

I left him another Message at ext#10...I am making myself an auto reminder on my NOT so smart phone to call him during business hours Monday. I will stay on top of it for sure.

My profile acts the same way when you try to access it but for some reason it did not delete my profile pic when the change happened.

markdunlap 05-31-2013 01:55 PM

I was having issues with slow execution times over 1 second to 30 seconds, just changing pages on the Racing Junk ads.

When I contacted the SUPPORT at he bottom of the page recently, PJ answered me back a couple times and said he was passing it on to the tech guys. Never got any reply back from them though.

Still have same issue, goes from normal to many seconds to change pages and sometimes never does.

TheYellaBrick 05-31-2013 06:31 PM

'THEY' need to realize that many car folks who BUY on RJ, come to the forum for feedback and advise. One feeds the other.......

Kevin from RJ called me and said they are aware of the problem and working on it..I will quote him " It should be fixed in a few days".

Thanks for the call Kevin.

One thing I noticed this weekend on the RJ site, for a while now when you used the search box it would default to "score" when it used to always do "new to old". Looks like they finally fixed that issue :!: :)
