I know the glide is best for bracket racing but I want to know about which one will et the best in a 3200 lb BBC car...I don't care about consistant. I just wonder if the lower first gear and harder launch with the 400 will be offset by the extra hp needed to turn it. I just horse around with my car and have fun, so consistancy doesn't concern me much. It dead hooks with little burnout with a glide...60' is low 1.30's I just was thinking of putting a 400 in it for fun.
It just don't lift the front wheels off the ground anymore.   |
It depends on your weight and engine. A glide worked better in my application with a light car and blown engine on the street. When you put a 3 speed in gear, and drive it, if you have a stall above 3000 there are two many gears, the convertor never locks up cruisen around an makes alot of heat. If its light, a glide. If its heavy a th400 for sure

I may do that so I can brag that my car was so powerful it destroyed the trans. |
I am a TH350 fan, just expensive to build when you start putting any real power against it. I have had bad luck with breaking cases on 400's.

A turbo 350 fan? I have heard it all now! And 400 cases crackin?
|
I broke the bell housing on my 400 last year. Put a new bushing, seal and a JW bellhousing and still racing it. Broke many 350's. Usually at the tailshaft.

400 all the way. i have to run a 350 or a PG in my dirt mod. easly go threw 2 or 3 a year no matter how much money you stick in to them.
used 400's in pullin and mud trucks never once a problem with them. |
