chevy has the crush sleeve and they don't recommend them for
racing, you would use shims to get the correct preload, but
9inch have just a sleeve like the 8.75 mopar that rely on the
shims for preload, crush sleeves are a one time use, if your drag
racing need to go to just a sleeve so you can change gears at
a whim, good luck

The Ford 9" uses a crush sleeve on a stock set up. I agree the crush sleeve is a one time use and for racing I would use a spacer but I have seen a lot of racing 9" rears that still had a crush sleeve. That's why I warned him about damaging the pinion bearings.

I have completly degreased everything so when I get the car rolling I will be able to pinpoint all leaks. It wasn't hollowing or anything like that before. It has Strange axles and spool and seems to be built right...some time ago. The current gear is a 5:13 for 1/8th mile and if I need taller gears I will have to redo everything anyway by a shop.

when you take the nut off mark the nut and pinion on one side with white paint or white out.then when reinstalled, use locktite and tighten until the marks line up..that way you know it was not over tightend or crushed the sleeve to far...feel for play at the yoke.
