Let the poking and prodding begin!
Never, ever thought I would end up with a car like this but the more I thought about it I figured what the hell!
2000 Pontiac Trans Am WS6 with a 6-speed. Every single option that was available that year is on this car. 1 owner and the MSRP was $32,600.
Now here is the catch, it only has 538 miles on it!
The guy bought it new in 2000 and drove it maybe 100 miles or so that year. Did not renew the plates again till 2010 drove it a few miles that year then parked it. He would start the car, get it up to operating temp and take it around his neighborhood 2-3 times a year. Kept it in a heated and air conditioned garage.
Lots of documentation and the Carfax I ran matched his story as far as the registration goes.
I bought the car for less than half the original price.
I now have what is basically a new 13 year old car, it has not a single dent or scratch anywhere, the interior looks and smells like new.
I drove it 65 miles home and it was competely rattle free and smooth as silk.
Now I like old cars but as I get older smooth factory muscle like this seems more appealing. There are hundreds of bolt on performance parts for the LS1 along with tons of suspension mods you can do.
Now the wife made me promise to keep it at least a year but I might hang onto this one just a little longer. :D

Nice, you have any performance upgrades in mind yet?
Harbone
06-11-2013, 03:48 PM
Jeff I sold it outright to a guy in northwest Indiana
Swiley I already ordered the SLP air cleaner box plus the skip shift solenoid over ride. Looking into cat-back exhaust, nothing loud just a little more performance oriented. Once I get that stuff installed there is a local guy who is a great tuner, funny what you can get out of these cars with just a laptop and tuning software!
Not gonna hop it up too much, these cars run pretty strong right out of the box with 0-60 times at 5 seconds flat.

I have heard of major gains with the tune that matches the up grades. Any plains for some dyno time after the upgrades?

Freakin AWESOME Bone. I also bought a salvage 99z LS1 and had a blast with it..tell ya what you can put rear end mount twin turbo ( space saver) on that bad boy replace with some bigger injectors and tune the computer and get over 600 hp to the rear wheels and drive it every day. Now this time of my life that sparks my interest.
BEST LOOKING FRONT END HANDS DOWN !!!!!
Check out my buddys website HAWKS3rdgeneration camaro and Firebird. I am on my cell phone or I would post a link.
Look him up they have put out some serious HP on this LS1 stuff just with minor tunning and stock replacement parts.

you guys are getting old .now you want muscle cars that don't shake cause the cams too big. don't rattle with every move and don't suck gas and with air on top of all that.lol wait, that sounds pretty good from here...lol.way to go bone.way to new for me but that is one hell of a deal!!!! keep it.

Harbonious!!!
A different car than I thought you would have jumped on sure.... but very cool nonetheless. "538" miles??? crazy.... one of a kind my friend. Fun fact for ya: That car is exactly same car Layne Stayley (front-man from Alice & Chains OD'd from Heroin) had but it was a 1999. It was pristine & had 26K on it when it was sold a few years ago.... same color too. You will have fun w/ it. I am sure you & the wife will be able to enjoy a long road trip without smelling exhaust, have a few extra gears & 1K less cruise RPM while you warm your butts in heated seats. Besides, in stock form she is capable of smoking many raw nostalgic iron rides. I am happy for ya!!

I installed the SLP air cleaner lid and it really does make a difference, especially in the bottom rpm range.
http://s3.amazonaws.com/s3.racingjunk.com/ui/4/12/30893124-264.jpg
Besides that lid, everything else is bone stock under the hood and looks brand new even though its 13 years old.
The brakes were pulsating so instead of cutting the rotors I replaced them with some drilled/slotted units and ceramic pads from Brakemotive. As you can see in the first 2 pictures the stock pads had left high spots on the rotors from sitting. I did keep all the stock stuff so it can go back at any time if I just turn the old rotors. The stock pads were still so fresh that I did not have to push the caliper pistons in to install the new ceramic pads!

"Hit 120 mph in 4th gear in no time at all and she had plenty left"
here is rough comparison just in case you forget Harb...
I hit 120 & taking up 2 lanes.... 4th gear nothing left... my azz is puckered, I can't even hear my wife yelling & screaming over the motor, but I feel the punches into my leg which is buried into the pedal. The steering wheel that separates me from life & death puts cramps in my white knuckles & the 327 in the firewall just inches before me is screaming for its life like a boxer in 12th & last 10 seconds, my brain is trying to scan how much room I will need to slow down w/ the drum brakes... my blood pressure is high, my stomach is in knots.... & I want to do it again anyways.
That is Scooter & wife in the 68 Chevelle @ 120MPH.... which is not as smooth as Harb & wife in the TA. I really don't see any downside here... makes me wanna try something newer/safer.

Funny you say that Scoot, same road in the Spring of 2012 we took the 73 Camaro on its first "leg stretch". Hit about 125 and she had a little left in her with the 3.08 rear gear but she was screaming and shaking and making all kinds of noise, so was the wife!
In the Trans Am she was just all smiles, kinda think she wanted a little more but we were running out of road pretty fast. Oh yeah, the A/C was blowing cold with the T-Tops out and she had cranked up her favorite song from Slash's new CD.
Its interesting how newer and safer feels good when you are getting older and wiser...

Yes, factory WS6 option sway bar
The exhaust was a breeze! Everything came apart easy cause of the low miles and the Magnaflow kit is well made with great directions. Hardest part was lining up the exhaust tips but patience is the key.
Took me about an hour and a half and I was really taking my time, especially taking the stock exhaust off cause I want to keep it.

Well I have spent the last 2 months going back and forth on getting some nice wheels for the T/A. Was looking at some RPM505's until a guy on the LS1Tech forum bought a set of Forgestar CF5 wheels and posted up a pic of his car and I just had to have them. I was not looking for the "murdered" out look but damn this car looks bad.
Here is a pic of his car with the wheels installed

His wheels are 18x11 and 18x10, I wanted to be able to rotate so I just ordered 18x9.5 all the way around.
Also have a set of Strano Sport lowering springs and Bilstein HD's to install all the way around. It will drop the car about 1.5"
Now I just have to wait 4-6 weeks while the wheels are being built, come on Spring! :)

Started on the Strano front springs and Bilstein SLP struts last night, my biggest fear was that one torx bolt under the master cylinder but I took a T50 bit, pulled it out of its socket and used a rachet wrench to work it out. I did loosen the master cylinder mounting nuts and put some duct tape on the inner fender to keep from scratching the paint.

Craigslist score today
Local small town ad, guy was selling a watts link setup, strano springs, konis shocks, UMI subframe connectors and Strano hollow front and rear sway bars. None of the stuff had been on the car very long and he was taking it all back off just to sell the car.
I ended up buying the Strano sway bars and UMI subframe connectors for less than half of what they would have cost new.
cant wait to install them later this week!

I got the front Strano sway bar installed and it makes a hell of a difference! I am still waiting to get the bushing brackets for the rear Strano bar then take the car to work for the UMI subframe connector install
Stock front bar still in place and the GM tag still on it

Strano in place, hardest part was that left rubber splash shield and the metal plate that bolts to the sway bar bushing mount on the drivers side.

I might...
There are a few clubs in the area and I have always wanted to try it. I know there is a nice road course up in Joliet that they have open track days on. I have never had a car that handles like this before. Most of my previous toys were mostly setup to just go like hell in a straight line.

Dropped Betty off at a local guys house Friday that does some detail work on the side. He uses a product called Opti Coat http://opti-coat.com/ its a ceramic clear coat that is permanent. It is like a protective shell for the paint about 2 microns thick when applied, that's 100 times thicker than any wax or sealant. It does not wear out over time and beads water like Teflon. Its pretty cool shit, about $400 for an application and that does not include if you need the paint buffed or corrected before its applied. I had it put on the wifes Sportage right after we bought it, 1 3/4 year later it still looks great and water just repels like it did when first applied after 2 winters of driving.
Heres how Betty looked after about 5 hours of paint correction and then the Opti Coat applied.

I finally got the chance to install the UMI subframe connectors I bought in April
http://s3.amazonaws.com/s3.racingjunk.com/ui/6/79/34260796-575.jpg
Having a drive on hoist makes it easy, put the car on the hoist, put the rear jack on the frame rails and lift the car till the lower control arms are parallel to the ground.

http://s3.amazonaws.com/s3.racingjunk.com/ui/4/27/35072274-903.jpg
take off the tunnel brace, put the provided threaded bars in the front frame rails, take out the drivers side rear lower control arm bolt, slide the subframe up in the back and reattach the lower control arm
http://s3.amazonaws.com/s3.racingjunk.com/ui/4/27/35072274-903.jpg
Loosely attach the front subframe bolts, do the same procedure on the passenger side.

Car feels tighter, cant wait to see how she feels in a corner!

My oldest and best friend is a professional digital photo and videographer and has been wanting to shoot my Trans Am since I bought it last year. Well he had an open window this week and had me drop it off at lunch!
Cant wait to see the results and he plans on keeping the car for a week so he can setup and shoot every possible angle.
I snapped some shots when I dropped it off, notice the size the light box above the car...

I swapped the wheels back on in preparation for winter storage. My stock wheels are mint and the original Goodyear F1's only have about 1,700 miles on them. I hadn't seen the car with the stock wheels on and lowered, looks pretty good!
