According to Plantation police, two masked gunmen came into the Subway at 1949 N. Pine Rd. Just after 11 p.m. There was a lone diner, Mr. Lovell, who was finishing his meal. After robbing the cashier, the two men attempted to shove Mr. Lovell into a bathroom and rob him as well. They got his money, but then Mr. Lovell pulled his handgun and opened fire. He shot one of the thieves in the head and chest and the other in the head.
When police arrived, they found one of the men in the shop, K-9 Units found the other in the bushes of a nearby business. They also found cash strewn around the front of the sandwich shop according to Detective Robert Rettig of the Plantation Police Department.
Both men were taken to the Broward General Medical Center , where one, Donicio Arrindell, 22, of North Lauderdale died. The other, 21-year-old Frederick Gadson of Fort Lauderdale is in critical but stable condition.
Mr. Lovell was a pilot in the Marine Corps, flying former Presidents John F. Kennedy and Lyndon B. Johnson. He later worked as a pilot for Pan Am and Delta Airlines.
He is not expected to be charged authorities said. ''He was in fear for his life,'' Detective Rettig said, "These criminals ought to realize that most men in their 70's have military backgrounds and aren't intimidated by idiots."
Something tells me this old Marine wasn't 'in fear for his life', even though his life was definitely at risk. The only thing he could be charged with is participating in an unfair fight. One 71- year young Marine against two punks. Two head shots and one center body mass shot.
Outstanding shooting! That'll teach them not to get between a Marine and his meal.
Florida law allows eligible citizens to carry a concealed weapon. Don't you just love a story with a happy ending?
Old people don't fight, they just shoot you.

There is a gun club 5 miles from my house that offers a class to get a Florida concealed carry permit. I might take it in the spring. There isnt a whole lot of crime where I live but when we road trip or take the RV camping I usually have a .38 on me or near by. I figure if I do get caught its worth it to make sure my wife and I are safe at all times. I have no criminal record so if I do get caught they sure are not sending me to prison, maybe a fine.

I have my lifetime permit and carry all the time.
We have to because an $8 an hour factory around here "import" undesirables from Michigan down here to work and all they do is get into trouble and hang out at the projects and get white trash pregnant.

You pull it out INTEND ON PULLING THE TRIGGER, it's NEVER a 'show-no go'. (double meaning there) 8) And once you cross that line your life will be changed DRASTICALLY in an instant. Taking a CC class by a reputable instructor is HIGHLY recommended as they also teach you the legal ramifications. THINK first but FAST! Don't panic, stay cool calm and collected. 8) 8) 8) 8) 8) 8)

First thing Im going to say is:
" He came at me and said he was going to kill me and I feared for my life" and I'll go home that night.
If its in my house, we have the " Castle Doctrine' so I don't have to say nothing but, "clean up the mess".
Here in Wisconsin we just recieved the concealed carry right. I think Illinois is the only state left without it. We also passed the "Castle Doctrine" which makes in nearly impossible to sue a homeowner for shooting someone who has broke into their home.

i dont care about any right to carry law.i had rather deal with the law while they bury the bad guy.im still alive hes dead.but i do believe a citizen should have the right to carry a gun just about anywhere he goes.but if im in a state that doesnt allow me to carry my gun i sure as hell aint gonna put it under the seat. i want that gun within reach. a gun as saved my life more than once.its a very hard thing to do.pull that trigger.but if you hesitate, you will die. i promise you, you will die. the bad guy isnt gonna think about it. hes gonna pull his gun a shoot you in the head. DO NOT HESITATE. PULL GUN AND FIRE.OR DIE.im still alive.for me its not the bad guys death or even me being the one who took it. as far as that goes i will shoot you then go eat supper. but its his family that seems to bother me. they have tolive with loosing him. he was someones son, brother or father. that part hurts. but not for to damn long.

Brandishing a firearm is different from issuing a warning. If walk into a building waving a gun around you're brandishing...and stupid. If you pull out your weapon and warn someone to stop or your shoot, you just issued a warning. Just make sure you have a good, provable reason for doing so.

So getting attacked doesn't warrant killing someone, what was he going to do to your girl, give her a million dollars or what?
If he would have been on meth and got to her 10 bullets wouldn't have stopped him in time from knifing her in the gut, choking here neck in half or shooting her with a syringe full of poison.
Either the situation wasn't as desperate as you think or you was worrying too much about the scum bucket charging you and not enough about your girl and yourself.
Take some handgun defense classes and it will open your eyes.
Nobody wants to kill somebody and have that on their conscience but why carry a handgun if the time comes and you don't use it because they make terrible clubs!

Depends. Here in Ms, we have the 'castle doctrine' and permits. Most of the time, you get to spend a night or three in jail, while they 'investigate'. And just last month, a guy was defending himself in his home, but when he dropped the pistol and did the coup de grace shotgun blast to the head to be sure the other party was down, that has him still jailed on murder charges...

I have mixed emotions with shooting someone, because it's something that you can never take back or change your mind. (Mouse) i donot know anyone in Ms. or La. who doesn't carry a gun, permit or not. I personaly donot want to ever shoot anyone, but it's always a judgment call and sometimes it doesn't come out right (over jezlous prosecutor who want's to run for a larger office, etc) But i always have a 45 auto loaded in my bed headboard and if someone enters my house or shop after hrs/breakin, i will attend his funeral and appolagize to his family for his ignorance, drunk, crack, meth it doesn't matter, his problem not mine and i'll deal with it in court.

Gentlemen, another controversial topic huh? I never had to take another mans life, but know a few that have. They have looked for forgiveness in the bottom of bottles... or tried to bury it in denial. Not the easiest thing to live with; as Zip mentions, there is no going back. We all sound pretty committed with our guns under the bed, or under a coat, in a shorts pocket, etc... but unless we pulled the trigger... it is hard to understand what transpires for each one of us internally... thanks be to God I have never even had to brandish mine.
Olds, if my wife or child was in danger of any kind, I would not hesitate to brandish...empty the clip regardless of good gun training. It is not about good training IMO, but about instinctual protection of your loved ones!! It is primal thing that is inherent to us all... man I would have done the same thing. I am glad you had one at that time & the option to protect yourself. The guy you pulled it on would be a FOOL to report you anyways... probably has a warrant, drug problem, criminal record, etc....

Of all people I should carry a gun. Like I already mentioned I travel a lot by myself, late at night and have spent more nights on the road in a trailer / truck than I could ever count.
The last thing I want to do is shoot somebody. No, I would not have a hard time doing it if I were in danger, but I'm pretty sure it would change my life too.
It would almost have to make you look at people in a different way. I would think it would make you wonder where / who the next threat would be.
I honestly can't understand how people rob, kidnap or just kill somebody out of pure meaness.
On the other hand I'd like to set a booby trap in my shop so if a thief broke in a shotgun would blow a hole right threw him.
That would only be his / her fault for trying to steal my stuff.

I see where you are coming from outlaw, but it does come down to choices people make, you never know who you are messing with. Like in your case,if someone pulled a gun on you ,you would have no problem ,like you said pull and shoot. I was in a street racing accident in the early 80s,that 1 person was killed and 3 where severly injured including me and my buddy,he was driving and we blew a red light at 130mph and hit the car coming thru the intersection. There is not a day that i dont think about the guy the passed away. Was a bad choice that we made to race, and cost someone there life.
