I just picked up an old 2x3 a-arm front clip I think it an A. R .T.type. I have a back half 68 camaro Round tube chassis. OK, heres the question, i dont have the old front clip in the car any more and was trying to figure out where i should mount this clip and what height the center of spindle is. The other prob. is someone cut the rest of the fram connections off. I only have the front clip to where it would start to go under the fire wall. If you need pics i will get them or if eaiser i can call. Thanks for reading. Paul

Don't know if you know already or not but A.R.T. is back up and running after being shut down a while, you might be able to get the mounting pads from them, maybe give them a call.

GOOD ! These show us what you are working with !
Now we need 4 pics of the car you want to mount this in, please. Ideally one facing the firewall, a shot of the underbody at the firewall, one facing forward from the rear seat area, and one facing forward from the rear end area.

Im running a stock fire wall on 68 camaro. The plan was to tie into the main cross member behind the drive seat where my ladder bars are.Because the car sits low I think if I put in the front clip i have to cut away the floor either all or just where the rails would tie into the cross member. I will get some pics to Zip to post. Thanks Zip

Do you have a 2x3 rear crossmember or is it round tube?

yes its a 2x3 cross member. the cm tubing comes off that. I will post pic tonight hopefully.

so basically all you wanna do is extend a straight 2x3 rail from that stub all the way back to your 2x3 crossmember if i am reading ya rite correct?

That's the way I'm reading it also.
First thing is to get the car set up on jack stands at the exact ride height and attitude that ya want. Then bring in that front stub and get it set up with the exact wheel base. From there you can see where ya need to go as far as extending the front frame rails to that rear cross member.
NOTE ; Spend a TON of time in measuring, moving, measuring, measuring, measuring. And MAKE NOTES !
I like to drop a plumb bob off off the chassis at equal points(swing arm pivots points are good) mark them on the floor on duct tape, and square every thing up off them. REMEMBER that if you move the car even a skoshe ya gotta drop those plumb lines again ! There is absolutely no way you're gonna get the car exactly back in the previous position.

x2 with double D! Two plum lines and I myself like the string method rite down the center of the car, and everything you do is measured off the string!

Yeah, this is a pretty straight forward project. You're going to need to tie in the front down legs on the clip, into the front of the roll cage structure. Remember to incorporate TRIANGULATION in ALL of the roll cage.
Looks like FUN !!

Whats the rule on 2x3 when you add on. You have to plate it and over lap by how much i would think on all 4 sides. Any special way i should notch the 2x3 to butt togeather, or just butt them togeather flush. That doesnt look right by putting togeather flush.

I have butt welded 2X3 frame rails but i welded a 2"X4"X1/4" tk plate on each side of the butt welded section.

Just my two cents-ignore if need be-but definitely get a grain of salt ready. I picked up a fox body tubular k-member with everything on it.Adjustable struts, nice brakes...the whole nine yards.CHEAP-thanks to Gimmethakick.Anyways, when i went to attach to the front of my car all i did was pop the springs off the struts-level the lower control arm to the ground and adjusted the height of the spindle according to the size tire I had on the front. Whatever the center line of the tire was ( i dont remember) I sat the center of the spindle at that height. I pushed the axle center line forward cuz i never thought the front sat where they where they looked good-then just burned it all in. But cant you do the same here? Just put the spindle as far forward as you want it and then measure off the floor according to tire height? Like I said, just my two cents. Probably not worth that much, really. Just a thought. Good luck with your project!

BTW: Anyone even remotely close to the Roanoke VA area should contact Gimmethakick if they need any parts. Ya'll may already know, but he runs a speed shop in that town and would really appreciate the business.Of course he can ship as well.SUPPORT ONE OF OUR OWN!
