View Full Version : HAVE I PUT TOGETHER A GOOD STREET COMBO??

I started with a 454 bored 40 over. Put a Lunati Sledge Hammer forged crank with 4inch stroke but requires a connecting rod 6.385" long. So I installed a set of Manley "H"beam forged rods that length. On the end of those is a set of KB Icon forged flat pistons with 1 valve relief, that is supposed to get me 10:1 compression. I covered those up with a set of aluminum Edelbrock heads. Those come with 100cc combustion chambers, 290cc intake runners, 110cc exhaust runners, 2.190in intake valves, 1.880 exhaust valves. I topped them off with a set of Comp Ultra Gold Roller Rockers with Comp push rods to match. Sitting between them is an Edelbrock Airgap intake with a holy 750 double pumper sittin on the top. This engine combo is chased by an upgraded 700r4 tranny. Transfering the power to the ground is a 373 posi 10bolt which I'm thinkin is gonna be the next weak link but ill change it when it grenades. I am chasing a good street combo that will make my '85 z28 come alive. Tell me your opinions do you think this is a good upgrade from my 383?

You won't believe how much more torque you are going to have over the 383" in fact it's probably going to blow the tires off. One thing you may have more than 10 to 1 compression because most big block heads have 118 cc chambers.

Nice guess I may have to buy sum drag radials......dam I hate that..... I dunno if the block has been decked...I forgot to ask the machine shop...stupid me ...but the pistons set flush with the top of the block I dunno if they are suppose to. This is my first build so i'm kinda in learning mode with alot of this. If I could figur out how to post sum pics I have a few of the build. I'm gonna see if i can figure out how..

everything looks good but not sure if that 750 will be big enough.....think your gonna need at least a 800 or 850 :wink:

Just a tip.You might want to upgrade tobeefy front coil springs to handle the weight of that big block.

yea i was gonna go to a 850 later the 750 is pretty new so i was gonna use it for a lil bit then sale it and buy a 850. Well I was thinking there wouldnt be much weight difference between the stroker and the big block cause the stroker had iron heads and the bbc has aluminum but I may be wrong. Oh and I forgot the cam specs. Its jus a mid range cam but here they are•Advertised Duration (Int/Exh): 262/268
•Duration @ .050 (Int/Exh): 219/227
•Gross Valve Lift (Int/Exh): .530/.542
•LSA/ICL: 112/108
•Valve Lash (Int/Exh): Hyd/Hyd

that is a hydraulic flat tappet I think I could have gone a lil bigger but I wanted to try to get a lil more life outta the tranny

i'd go a lil bit bigger too, at least 10 degrees longer...usually i'm why so big???????????????? not here though.

Hey maybe someone can help. I'm afraid that I'm gonna run into radiator issues. I have a stock 2 core radiator in it noe with 1 electric fan. It did ok on my stroker but I dunno about this big block. I was thinking about goin to 2 pusher fans since I'm gonna be cuttin it close on space in the front of the engine compartment. But do I need to go to a larger radiator too. And what kinda cfm do u guys think is necessary to keep it cool. By the way I live in East Texas so 100+ temps and 90+ humidity is common 11 months outta the year.....unfortunatly
