I am pissed some punk kids just ripped mine and my neighbors mail box out of the ground took a sh!+ in mine and wiped with my mail !!
They where looking to do more they made it about 100ft up the drive and my driveway alarm went off. I looked to see who was here and they seen me in the window and hauled ass.
Looks like I will be spending some of this years racing budget on more security

Looks like a heavy duty secure mailbox is in your future ! And a guard house at the entrance manned by armed personnel !!
I'm afraid more of this type action is going to be happening, gang, as the economy gets schittier and schittier ........

I wish you could have put some texas pete on the mail that he wipped his butt with. Why are some kids (even some adults) so stupid? They should get a life and find something creative to do.

My buddy lives down the road from me in the middle of nowhere had the same problem. His solution was a cut off railroad rail, set in 12 inches of concrete, a 1/4 inch steel plate custom made mailbox. now heres the kicker, he buried wires to it, hooked up an electric fence transformer to a timer that turned on at night (so not to shock his mailman). He has not had an issue since and actually had someone sideswipe the box a few months back, did about $1800 worth of damage to the kids car and the kid got in trouble since it turns out he was running down mailbox's elsewhere! I will take some pics when I get a chance...

Man i hear these horror stories all the time from almost anywhere USA. I'm so glad i live where i do. Around here people leave their ATV's outside John Deere lawn mowers outside, etc. I haven't locked my back door in yrs. except when i go out of state for a couple weeks. When i pull my race car out to get it cleaned up to go the track, the kids/young adults actaully come over and help me wash it. Every kid i know in the neighbor hood calls me Mr. John. I think it's all about parenthood and how they are raised (total respect) Admittly i live in a small farming town and the kids are taught to work from the time they are old enough. enough said i've lived in Chgo, (grew up there) lived in Phx, for over 20 yrs. and crime was rampent in both cities. I don't think there's a solution except to shoot first and decide if it was the right thing to do.

kinda like you zip. i live out in the country and i dont lock our house doors. hell i dont even own a door key to get in the house if we were to lock it.i leave the keys in all our cars.because i seem to lose them if i take them out.i sleep (when i can) with the front door open.funny thing, i lock the hotrod shop and the bike shop both tight at nite or if i leave but the house front door wide open.i am also VERY heavly armed.i have firearms hid in every room.and everyone in our area is the same way.after you shoot a theif they tend to avoid your place.

Same here, keys are in everything from the bike, lawn mower, 4-wheeler, truck, car, etc.
The only key I have is a garage door opener!
Mr Winchester and a few of his sons reside in every room of the house plus the garage and shed. I have never had to use one yet but they are ready when need be.

X3 with the exception of we lock EVERYthing up. Very dense 'agricultural' population with a ton of gang activities and the druggies that go with it.

what your Buddy has done is called 'BOOBY TRAPPING"..its highely illegal on the state and federal level..I was gonna post a thread about it but there is so much information on the subject I will leave it up to anyone to google themselves.

I have personally known a man LOCALLY for getting charged with boobytrapping by doing the same thing to his fence your buddy did to his mail box.

We run buildings on the southside of chicago in some of the highest crime rate areas in the country, you have to be careful how you go about security. If you set up any form of security that will intentionaly cause harm to someone it is considered booby traping. you will be in VERY deep chit if someone is hurt or killed. we use ADT and a whole lot of iron bars for security. ( I am never done making iron bars  )

O'K i have to ask :?: if you install Razor wire or Barbed wire on your fence is that also booby trapping :?: because it for sure will cause intentional harm. I know it wouldn't work on a mail box, which was the original post. Again i'm so glad i live where i do, in an area so peaceful,(want buy a little house 1340 sq ft and BIG shop 2400 sq ft), that it makes headlines when there is a B&E. Around here about the only calls the cops (2 in all) is when some farmer or employee get drunk and goes off on his wife, and the word spreads like wild fire and he can't hold up his head when out in public for the next month.

Thats a good question Zip! My whole property line is surrounded by some old school barbed wire thats been there since the early 1900's. It still stands proud in a few spots and would cause some serious damage.
I said something to my buddy yesterday, he didnt say much except our friend who's a county sheriff helped him dig the hole, pour the concrete and wire the mailbox. Thought that was a little ironic.

be defined as any concealed or camouflaged device designed to cause bodily injury when triggered by any action of a person making contact with the device. This term includes guns, ammunition, or explosive devices attached to trip wires or other triggering mechanisms, sharpened stakes, nails, spikes, electrical devices, lines or wires with hooks attached, and devices for the production of toxic fumes or gases.

If a person sets up such a trap to protect his/her property, he/she will be liable for any injury or death even to an unwanted intruder such as a burglar. It is illegal to set a booby trap on one's own property to prevent intruders.

now what if there was say a small high voltage sticker say 1"x2" then technically wouldnt be a hidden booby trap

don't know John with todays technology It wouldn't be hard to find out if that would quailfy as booby trapping or not...I will say how many residential fences do you see wrapped in razor wire vs. barb wire ??..if i were trying the case I think the harmful intent with razor wire would be easy to prove..plus barb wire is used to keep animals in not out..so I would make sure I had cows, goats or something in my yard with that type of fencing.on the other hand razor wire is designed to keep hard core criminal inside and will cause serious body harm and death.....you can't walk into the home depot and buy a spool of razor wire...lol....the law is pretty much spelled out for what is boobing trapping. In reponse to a deputy sheriff help installing a booby trap device it obvious to me he doesn't know much about this law or what penalty it carries or he would have ran from this project.
as far as playing around with the fine symantics of what would qualify as a boobytrap or not coming down to a sticker or otrher verbal written warning.. I personally wouldn't chance it but people can Choose to do whatever they choose to do...we live in a free nation just prepared to pay the price if your wrong...both Criminaly and Civally...according to the law ignorance of the law is no defense.

had a city cop say we could put up electric fence in city to keep neighbor kids out (ugly story) but had to have it clearly marked but didnt do it

I asked one of are city officers if it would be against the law to fire off a few blank rounds or a starter pistol as they run away next time just might scare a punk kid strait. His reply was well if I let you do it than I have to let other people kind of opens a Pandora’s Box. I hate it when they give there opinion and not the actual law! I will be looking in to it.
