The following is my reply after he reneged on deal for me to buy his
'55 chevy rolling, with only 3 days before I was to picked it up.
I cancelled a ski trip and had airfare and other expenses.
Hi bill, It is easy to say you are a man of your word when your word is not tested. Now that your word was tested
we see that you are neither a man of backbone or character.
With only 3 days left you decide to renege on our deal we made Friday, even If I agreed to buy the car with
the motor, I could not trust that you would uphold your end of the bargain.
Even though my loss is a ski trip with friends, airfare, and vacation time; your loss is greater than mine, the loss of your integrity.
Integrity can’t be bought or taken, it can only be given up. From this point on when you make your arrogant boast that
“your word is your bond” you will think of me and know that you are lying.
Good luck, I feel you need it.

Yes it was on racing junk, I agreed to pay full price ($15,000) for his '55,
then he wanted me to buy his tanny also, so I agreed to pay an extra
thousand dollars for the tranny to seal the deal. I said the deal is done
right, and he replied "yes, I'm a man of my word and my word is my bond". Three days before I'm to pick up the car he reneges. Now he has
it relisted at a higher turnkey price but still has it at $15,000 rolling.
Maybe he doesn't want someone to show up with cash. Maybe he just
wants to scam somebodys deposit money?
The add number is 2099385.
Thanks Brent

Thank you for the info.I am not that computer savy, have to figure out how to respond on the forum. The guy is not telling story correctly after posting ad on rj realized that I made a mistake and car is to nice to take apart to sell as a roller. But the guy was trying to talk me into making a deal I told him no deal but then he talked me into thinking about it, and when i told him no deal that is when all this started. No moneys were exchanged and I have been selling things on rj since I have been a member never without a single problem. He is just mad because he wasn't able to get my car from me. Thanks for all your help I appreciate it.

Hi Mark, I have not been on the computer since Friday, I have been working on a car for Drag Week 2011. In the Jan. issue of Hot Rod is the
"granny car" that I built for my wife and I decided to take it on Drag Week last year for laughs.
I see Bill replied, it's one thing to renege on a deal, but it even shows less
backbone to when you lie about it. He knows we had a deal. He reneged out of greed, thats why he relisted it at a higher price.
He even gave me his address (66 Constantine Way Mt. Sinai N.Y. 11766)
so I could put it in my Garmin GPS to find his house to pick up the car.
Since he blocked you, maybe you can use this address to mail him . . . ha, ha.
His only option to save face is to lie about what happened, but that's what happens when you lose integrity.

I have already apologized for not selling my car as a roller and didn"t mean to block anyone from RJ. I put car up for sale on a impulse and after having numerous calls and deals decided I made a mistake and could not go threw with selling car as a roller. Car is just to nice to take apart and sell, plus all of the memory"s that I have. Most important NO moneys or deposits were exchanged and I left ample time to terminate deal. I have owned car for 21 years and I know when the car is sold my racing career is over, I am sure you fellow racers could understand that. So again I apologize to everyone involved and I think we should all move on.

Funny how we can get off of the actual topic sometimes... here is what the seller lost:
"Even though my loss is a ski trip with friends, airfare, and vacation time"
Seems to me the buyer DID loose time & money on this one. Last time I checked, airfare, vacation time & a ski trip COST MONEY... but who am I??? I can cancel a deal 3 days before & say: "Everyone has the right to change their mind" blah blah blah... "I am a stand-up guy"... so was little-rod.
We were talking about a man's "WORD" or "Integrity".... following through with WHAT YOU AGREED TO DO.
You can't be half pregnant. This kind of dealing is flaky & irresponsible!!! BS- do what you said you were going to do!!!

Wow, I have not been on here in a few days and the discussion exploded.
First, if anyone thinks I did not lose any money over this they are ignorant of the facts. It's easy to say move on when it's not your time and money wasted. This forum is here to identify those who waste our time and money. Bill did not give me his address to be pen pals, he gave it to me to find his house to pick up the car. Anybody that comes on here and says there was not a deal, is ignorant of the facts or has a habit of telling lies. If Bill is really sorry, a check for $275.00 which is a small amount of what I had invsted would go a long ways in showing he means what he says. When a deal is made and you boast that you are a man of your word and your word is your bond (bills own words), then you renege with just three days left, you better expect some flack! When a person talks big but doesn't follow it up with actions, they are called a blow hard around here. We will see if he is just talk or is he truely sorry.
Thanks, Brent

I've been in sales most of my career and I can assure you there is no deal until a deposit or paid in full. If the buyer canceled a trip that was his decision. If the buyer would have canceled a trip, gone to look at the car and did not buy the car who's fault would that be? That is still he buyers decision. Buyer and seller have the right not to make a deal. Just because you did not get what you want does not make the seller a scammer. It just means you didn't get what you wanted and trying to bad mouth somebody and hurt his rep. It didn't happen get over it and move on.
Sad is what this thread is.

I agree Rabbit, I quess my question is did the seller even know the buyer was cancelling his trip to come buy the car? But, it really doesnt matter, no deposits were made, no money traded hands, nothing was put into writing and its just basically he said, he said. Its unfortunate this day and age a mans word is NOT a binding contract but such is life. Stick a fork in this one, I think its done...

Agreed Harb... not sure w/ Wabbit on a few points... not willing to let this go yet though (not quite yet).
They are not buying a contractual investment such as a home... where THE SELLER WOULD LOOSE HIS DEPOSIT over being a FLAKE like this!!! There is a difference. This is why in Real Estate it is called an "Earnest Money Agreement"... whereby you LOOSE it for flaky behavior like this case. man, this deal should not need an Escrow, Title company, formal deposit, lawyers, etc.... THE BUYER DECIDED TO SELL A CAR.
We are talking about 2 basic people who had a agreement. YOU should not need a bunch of protection clauses to protect each party... it was a "good ol boy agreement" where a deal is a deal. So: it is okay to back out with no regard to the buyer???? If you are going to be flaky, DON'T SELL. DON'T WASTE MY TIME.
The seller was "ready, willing & able" to purchase the car which WAS ON THE MARKET. Buyer did nothing wrong. He got jacked around by Mr. FLAKE who we should not just let off the hook that easy!!! If the seller is really sorry, then he should PAY THE BUYER FOR HIS LOSS.
Wabbit: you know I love ya. You my boy. Agree to disagree on this one.

We're in this together.
The following is my reply after he reneged on deal for me to buy his

I cancelled a ski trip and had airfare and other expenses.
He gave the guys 3 days notice. It's not like he showed up to his house and then he said Whoops, I changed my mind last week.
Airfare and a canceled trip is not the sellers fault. Those expense we just a part of the buyers cost of this deal. If he had gone to look at the car and said he didn't like it who's expenses are they? Still the buyers. It doesn't matter if it's around the corner or 1,000 miles away the buyer is the one that has to go look at the vehicle (unless agreements are made by the two parties). I don't take the buyers side just because he is the one out of money or a canceled trip. He knew those were on his table when he began this deal.

Agreed... good man. For some reason, this one bugs me though. I mean, if it were you and doing this, I feel like the deal would happen. A solid decision to sell & a solid choice to buy. There would be no backing out... because our word is all we really have at the end of the day. You would not sell until you are ready, I would not buy unless I could make an accepted offer... then it would be DONE. I hear these stories on here all too often. Maybe I am naive... perhaps a hand-shake is foolish now days. Anyways, have an AWESOME week-end; I have to go home to a kid w/ an ear-infection & my wife has the flu, so better get outta here. Scooter, First I hope you get the family back to being healty real quick.
You are right, if I said it was a deal then it would be yours even if I decided I really didn't want to do it. I would ask that if you ever sell it to please give me first option to buy. I usually am the one that takes the losses instead of getting over over somebody. If I were the buyer in this case I would understand and would not think I got scammed. I would just think it was another good deal I lost out on. Not, I want the seller to pay me for a lost vacation and plane ticket because he didn't sell.
It was a bad decision to agree to sell as a roller and even the seller said that, but I'm not gonna call him a scammer for that.
The question here is, is he a scammer or not? He had no intent to commit fraud and he called the guy 3 days before. He tried to do the right thing so IMO, he is not a scammer for changing his mind.
JMO, but in this case I would rather do business with the seller than the buyer of this thread.

Its great to see more posts, it keeps Bills name at the top.
This post is doing what it should, it is identifying those who think it is OK to renege on a deal and that your word means nothing. It seems that some did not read that it was Bills choice not to take the deposit that I offered, he said there was no need since I was going to be there to pick up the car the next week and he knew I had made arrangements.
We made the deal and I payed for airfare and missed a ski trip based on his word. His same word that he boasted about being his bond. I'm not upset about not getting the car, hell I really own too many as it is.
I'm irritated about his arrogance of his character and then because of his
LACK OF CHARACTER I missed my ski trip and spent money on a flight that was not needed. People like Bill need to be called out on forums like this to make them think twice about their actions. Not only did his negligence affect me but also the gentleman that took time off to drive
the truck and trailer. Bill did not conduct his bussiness with integrity, he reneged because of plain old greed. Those that think it is OK to renege on a deal and cost someone money, you are a big part of the problem with
internet sales. Some on here have shown that they set their standards higher and their word does mean something and those are the ones I would do bussiness with. These posts help identify which kind of person you are. Thanks

JMO, but in this case I would rather do business with the seller than the buyer of this thread.
I am open to what you are saying above Wabbit. A man's change of heart & actually performing a "scam" are not the same... but based on what you said above, I am going to leave this one alone & trust your intuition on this one....
Everyone is getting better; my daughter has almost finished the antibiotic & my wife is getting better too. I hate when the kids get sick....
