Need some input. Is PayPal a safe method to sell on Craigs List? Here is the email I received.
Hi thanks for mailing, i am a marine engineer, i am at sea right now.
i am buying this for my personal use so am willing to offer you the amount you required. I can only pay through PayPal at the moment as i don't have access to my bank account online(i don't have internet banking with it), but i have it attached to my PayPal account, and this is why i insisted on using PayPal to pay,all i will need is your PayPal email address to make the payment, and if you don't have a PayPal account yet, you can set one up at www.paypal.com it cant take you less than 3mins to do that, i will be expecting your PayPal email so l can pay. I have a pick up agent that will come for the pick up after payment has been sorted. l will be waiting for your reply asap.
plz include your final price for the listing

What is the scam? A person must have your email address to paypal the money to you so that part sounds correct. What is their "angle"?

look at the wording, who uses that kind of terminology like "pickup agent", I have gotten that email with almost word for word before from 5 or 6 different email address's. sometimes the link will take you to a fake paypal site so they can get your bank info. just reply to it and see what happens.

they will also post a payment, wait till they receive the goods and then file a claim, paypal gives them their money back, they close the account leaving you with no way to get any money back or legal action.

When I sell something and use paypal I ask for there E-mail and send them a bill (using paypal) for the price that we agreed on, then you know that they are serious about your parts or just want your E-mail for fraud or a scam, Thanks Ron612

Wasn't doubting you that it was a scam just wondered what they did if you "took the bait"

I would never click on a link like that. Got my ebay account hacked falling for that once. live and learn.

I appreciate the heads up from everyone.
There is a section on PayPal that lists the same basic letter.
Thank you.

With all the scammers out there I think if I ever do sell something big on RJ I'm just gonna let one of you guys sell it for me. I'm supprised you don't hear of a killing on the news every now and then about internet fraud.

{ it cant take you less than 3mins to do that, } it really takes 1 to 2 days,, pay pal deposits a very small amout in your acct, and you have to reply to them, and tell pay pal how much the deposit was,,that way pay pal know you are using a valid e mail acct, and that u are the user of that pay pal acct,

Not only is this a scam to get your item, but its a scam to get your identity. Im guessing the link would redirect to a site that looks like Paypal, but in the URl would be a different site. You would then proceed to fill in all of your personal information, which I hope you did not do already, cause that would be bad

I got this today, the wording is almost identical!

Thanks For Getting back to me ..I am buying this item for my son as a
Birthday Gift and i am at sea at the moment as i am a marine engineer
and due to the nature of my work, phone calls making and visiting of
website are restricted but i squeezed out time to check this advert
and send you an email regarding it. I really want it to be a surprise
for my son so i wont let him know anything about it until it gets
delivered to him, i am sure he will be more than happy with it. I
insisted on paypal because i don't have access to my bank account
online as i don't have internet banking, but i can pay from my paypal
account, as i have my bank a/c attached to it, i will need you to give
me your paypal email address and the price so i can make the payments
asap for it and I have a pick up agent that will come and pick it up
after i have made the payment.

Thanks
