What are some cars of the 1960s-1970s with good mileage, MPGs. Is there anything that gets more than 25 MPG?

Intresting this comes up now. Today on mythbusters, they were testing claims of gas additives and gadgets that supposed to improve gas milage. They were using a chassis dyno, the car selected was a late 70's G body Olds. with a V-8 and 2 barrel carb. It got 16.7 MPG @ 35 MPH, and 25 MPG @ 55 MPH, by the way not one additive or gadget increased the milage. I'm assuming that it probably had the same gear as my 1979 Elky came with which was a 2.48 and a 350 trans.

your most likely right zip my old 77 monte with stock 305 2barel carb and all got around 20-22 if i drove it sensable 84 granprix same set up squeaked 23 53 chevy 427 2x4 tunnel ram 350 tranny and 3.08 rear end 20 mpg all day long if not hammering on it monte needed tune up and better distributor

The new engine reduced the Gremlin's weight by 250 pounds (113 kg) allowing it to achieve an EPA rating of 21 mpg in the city, and 33 mpg on the highway.
Pintos, the MPG had a government rating of 34 mpg on the highway, 23 mpg in the city.
And fine muscle cars they were!!!
I wish I could see the look on your faces when you read that!! lol

Thinking about the two 70's American muscle cars I listed above :lol:
it's sad to think they are 30 years old and we still don't have any better technology and better mpg from the cars today.

yea i had a 74 trail druster and my buddy back home had a 00 dodge ram 1500 and i got about 8-10 mpg he got the same but according to the gov my truck was a gas guzzler clunker ect go figure

If I drive my 67 Firebird like a "normal" person, she actually gets about 22mpg! Thats keeping my foot out of the 4 barrel, tank full of premium and the AC off. She has a 3:08 rear end and even with the 2 speed auto loves cruisin at about 75 mph.

Think about this, my 99 vette (with a vette motor BTW lol) got 31+ almost 32mpg going 70 on the interstate with the ac on. It was 355hp and 6 speed. Why can't they make a 6 cyl or 4cyl car get 50mpg?
Ever notice that the cars that do get above 30 are so ugly nobody wants one. All the hybrids are stupid looking. Make a spoty looking car that gets really good gas miledge and maybe they will sell. I think the car makers make 'em ugly on purpose so they can say nobody wants to buy 'em.

Yep, my 1990 Vette gets 24/26 MPG at 70 MPH all day long tuneport with 700R4 trans. and i know it will run 155 MPH (yes it's got Z rated tires)
