BBC Block Questions?

I am new here.

I was told this is the place to come to build an engine on a budget.

Unfortunately I not there yet but am listening to others advice.

I hope to eventually build an E-85 engine for a Pro-Street Camaro, Street/Show usage Spring/Summer/Fall(60-75%), Race(25-40%).

I was told a good "Street/Strip" combo is a 482(std bore 454 with a 4.25 stroker crank) or a 505 (+.100 overbore and a 4.25 stroker crank).

I would like to have a 12:1 CR with Aluminum heads, a Holley Pro-Ram Tunnel Ram with twin E-85 830 carbs, a solid roller cam (LSA 112-114) for use with a small N2O Fogger System, forged crank,rods and pistons.

Assuming a 3100-3300 lb car, 31-18.5-15 M/T ET Street tires, a TH200-R4 tranny(2.74 1st gear), 4.88-5.13 rear gear, and a desired Flywheel
output of 600-700 HP what HEADS & Cam would you suggest?

Do a 496, just bore the block +60 (4.310 bore) We have some killer deals going on kits right now. As for a Camshaft, I would do custom, This can be custom tailored to specific heads to target mid loft flow numbers for peak power. As for the trans, your gonna disintegrate it. Turbo 400 or Powerglide is highly recommended. Heads, RHS, Dart, AFR, World, these are good choices depending on your budget. Runner size I would stay around 320-325cc

A high compression BBC with a 4.25" crank, a 4.88 or 5.13 rear gear, NOS AND a trans with a 2.74 first gear....on the street? wow.

Good thing they are big tires.

The 600 to 700 HP is a big spread. By that I mean you can do a regular pump gas BBC motor and make 600 to around 640. Now with E85 you can do more compression but street driving a tunnel ram around on the street is very cool looking but can be trouble some drivabilty wise.
I like the 496 idea, I like the intake runner sizes suggested, budget will govern which heads you use and opinions vary on that subjest also. I do like going with a roller valve train (but again a budget thing) get a custom grind ,Howard or comp will help you .

I found that MT sells a ET Street in 33X18.5-15 for Street/Strip.

It seems finally that Tires are living up to Pro Streets promise.

Thanks for the engine advice it seems 496 with a stock block would be a good starting place.

In time would love to have a 557 based a 502(4.5 bore& 4.375 crank).

I would be scared to run a solid roller on the street if I were going to drive it much. I know many do it but you better have GOOD LIFTERS!!

No more Mark IV as far as I know. They have stopped making BBC'S completely for production . Don't know about selling over the counter.

X2 on the 496", forged rotating assmy's for under $2000.00, Dart 320's very reasonable, no way on the 200R4 it want live unless you spend about $2,000.00 on it, go with the turbo 400. If it's in your budget go with a hydraulic roller around .660 lift. It's easy to make 600/700 HP with this combo and it can handle a 200 shot of nitrous.

A hydraulic roller or solid flat tappet would be much more suited for street use.
