View Full Version : What should I do?

Ok this might sound silly, but I'm not sure what to do. I'm about 99% sure it will end up being nothing...but...
I just got back from fishing.I went to a creek near my parents that I used to wade in as a kid...fishing for small mouth. It is a shallow creek with lots of rocks and deep holes...many sand bars etc....Anyway, I was good bit back into the creek and I saw a trash bag in the weeds. I went up to it and right away smelled death. nasty. The bag was a normal HEFTY size bag and it was pretty full, but ripped and flattened out if that makes sense.Well...through the hole in the bag I could see plain as day it contained bones.I could see what I am 100% positive was a rib cage. I poked the bag with my fishing pole and didn't feel a skull but I didn't touch it. I don't know what is in that bag. The rib cage size makes it about the size of a small person or a pretty large dog. I can't believe it would be a person as the bag was very compact. It's probably a dog or other animal but I am not sure. I left it alone..I feel foolish calling the police to have them go way out there and find a dead dog...but who puts their dog in a garbage bag? I honestly do not know what it is. Should I just forget it or what? I'm serious not clowning around.

Probably a deer, but the local LE would rather check and know for sure...

I showed my father the area. I live 25 miles away from him so I only come over on weekends. The town near his home is a very small town with two cop cars...he is going to drive over tomorrow morning and talk to them. They can't look at it in the dark anyway. They will need to get wet to get to it but it won't be hard to find. I didn't touch it with my hands only poked at it with a fishing pole. I'm sure it's not a person but you never know. No missing kids in this area that I've heard about but this creek does cross under a major highway out of Indianapolis. Just strange to me why someone would put a dog or a deer in a garbage bag and toss it in a creek.

No doubt Tod, this is a job for Joe Friday and Bill Gannon! Seriously, it could be a child.............I wouldn't feel the slightest bit stupid if it is a dog/deer, etc. In fact, there should be some praying going on that it is a dog or deer.
It would be very difficult for me to sleep thinking I left a child out there because I wasn't sure. I suspect it would you too Tod.

We call the police the 5.0 down here in MS,TN,AL or atleast the people I know around here and thats what my sisters ex husband call's them which is from Illinois so I'm not sure its just a southern thing. Also the mustang and ram thing was a joke about what could be in the bag. Man mopar you still giving me a hard time. But I'm sure as you have told beast that you don't want me to explain anything because it gives you head aches.

my previous posts were made from my parent's house. After reading the opinions here I tried to call the local PD in the hick town near them.I didn't call 911 because ,as I said I aint sure...there were two numbers in the phone book for them. One said dispatch the other said ADMIN. I got no answer on either.SO,I drove over to the "POLICE STATION" if that's what you want to call it...it is just an old house turned into a station. There was one of their two police cars there, but nobody inside the station. I will call in the a.m. to see if my father gets in touch with someone or not.
The more I think about how it looked the more I am thinking it must be an animal.

hey tod i use to bike ride thru a real non used road and there were bags
on the left and right and the stench was bad, i knew if i poked one
and found a body i would have to call the PD, so i just left things alone,
besides a patrol car would crusie by twice a day. a city worker said
they put them in bags so their easier to toss, sad and i too hope
it is not an infant, and yea i'd call, good luck bud

Po Po? That was my parents next door neighbors police K9. He died in the line of duty. Suppoosedly he got toxic meth chemicals on his paws that proved to be deadly.

Sorry to hi-jack your thread. No question I'd call too. Even if it is an animal, it could possibly be evidence in an animal cruelty case. There has been a bunch of dog fighting arrest around here lately. I personally have an interest in animal neglect and cruelty cases.

Hey Tod,
I know how it feels; had a similar situation once about 6 years ago up in the Oregon mountains dirt-bike riding. A body that was wrapped up in a blanket... in a small cave. I called the police, showed them, & it was a body of a person who likely got hypothermia or died of natural causes... but my first reaction was denial... I mean it is not every day we find a body... pretty creepy. I would make that call though. Scoot

Sorry haven't reported back. I suppose it was an animal. They said they would look into it and I have not heard anything. As I said I live 25 miles away from there. I guess NO NEWS is good news in a situation like this.
