Just wondering what would cause no end play on the crank.

Thrust surface on the crankshaft worn. Also possible but not likely the rear main block faces worn and letting the rear main slide back and forth.

Did you "set" the rear main bearing before you torqued the rear cap down? You should bump the crank foward then backward before torquing. Dave

  , Crap i misread the post, i assumed he meant to much end play.
Oldandtired, is right if the cap is not doweled you have too smack the crank forward and backward before torquing the cap down. also they sell an over size rear main to solve the crank wear, it's possible you accidently got one of these in the main bearing set. If you have a set of calibers pull the rear main cap off and measure the the bearing width the check the crank thrust surfaces width.
