We're lookin' at a chunk of ground in a residential/country setting. 1.08 acre with the house at the front of the property. This means I'd get to design and build my dream shop.
We're thinking 30 X 100 with a leanto shed type roof as it'd face North.
I'm wondering what size bays you guys feel is a nice workable size. All bays will be 30ft deep with 10ft wide doors. There will be enclosed office and clean room area at one end.

I think 30x100 might be a lil small. I was going to be putting up a 40x100 to allow a lil more room with a car in a bay. Just cant forget if you will have shelves on front of the bays or tool boxes in front of the bays itmight become a lil bit crowded. JMO

Always build as big as you can because you will always need the room either for cars work benches machinery etc......... Design it well and build it once

If you have the money go bigger if not thats 2/3 more room then I got, I can make it happen with a lot less but wish I had it bigger. Its like building a shed or buying a trailer, its never big enough.

I agree, you can't build them big enough, i've got a 34X66, 3 bay doors, a 20X24 clean room. With the tools, lawn mower,4 wheeler, machinery you'll be out of room in no time. My last shop was 50X60 and i wish i had it back

I'm currently in a ramshackle metal warehouse with 7,000 sf, but it's not located where we want to live, the roof has leaks, no heat in the winter, no cooling in the summer. It'd be heaven to be in a warm/cool, DRY and clean shop !
Thanks a bunch for the input guys. What is the normal working area width that you would allow for ? 12-14 feet ?

X2 because of those that drop by, dragging in an item they need welded or something else done. Dave
