The only brand that I use when I paint cars is PPG. They are one of the top brands at a reasonable price. Now there is also House of Kolor that specialize in Candy paints that area good brand too. They are kinda pricey tho.
If you want to see what it PPG looks like go to this wesite and look at a 52 Chevy Bel Aire.

I like the NASON line from DUPONT...it is a budget paint line but is easy to work with and I've had excellent luck with it.

Implement Enamel from Tractor supply. :P
You can get a gallon for about $20 and it only takes it a week or so to dry. :D

go with the dupont paint they have many options for base and clear that would be well within your budget. ppg is ok but you have to buff it constantly to keep the shiny finish after all ppg stands for piss poor gloss . i use dupont in my shop and have put out alot of great show cars with dupont refinishing products...... Painted cars for 40 years. I don't think you would be disappointed with PPG urethane clear gloss. For someone that don't paint everyday PPG seems to be user friendly. You can screw up and bail yourself out. If your selecting paint by cost. It may not matter what kind of results you get. PPG has some exotic colors also. Ask for custom chip book.
