I'm considering changing my 3.73's to 4.11's should I see much of a 60ft difference? my set up is a mild sbc,4spd,12 bolt 373,26x10x15 m/t slicks. My previous 1/4 mile times have been very disapointing and every one says its my gear ratio? my 60 ft has been between 2.05 and 2.09 :(

the 3:73 gear ratio is a good street/strip the 4:11 works just as good
on the street as well, what carb and intake are you using, and
you said mild sbc, roller or hydralic cam? with the right combo the
3:73 had worked great with my 383, if your sbc is stock you might
try some mods to boost up hspwr, using the 4:11 with no changes
to the block might give you a slower time, not sure, have never tested
on a mild sbc, i could be wrong, good luck bud

10.5-1 comp. 292 duration 510 lift cam, edelbrock performer rpm heads, victor jr intake, holley 750 dp. hope this helps

yea with that combo you would benefit with the gear change, the
vic jr is a very good flowing intake, you might consider a 850 dp
running that compression, you will always have to use high octane,
your cam is over .500 lift, is it roller or hydralic? good luck bud

I had that same combo in my chevelle almost except it was a 400 instead of a 383. I had a 4.10 gear 60' were 1.71

SO you guys think its worth the time and $$$ to change to a 4:11 gear? Do you think I will see a noticable difference?

I would go to a 4.56 I don't think there vwill be enough difference between a 3.73 and a 4.10 to make it worth it. JMO

hey tod would'nt he need to go to a bigger tire? 30" im using
4:56 w/31" tires, works well on the street for the get togther
at the burger joint on the wk ends, don't know if the 26" tire
works well with that ratio, what size are those pair of rubbers
sticking out of your rear, heh

I am leaving at 3700, and yes side steppin it  I'm runnin a 26 inch slick and a 26inch street tire. I ran a 28 inch tire with 4:11's in my nova and it wasnt enough gear. I figured with the 2 inch smaller tire it would be about right.??

what dose it weigh?

does it spin or hook?

whitey70ss

yes it hooks hard, the first time out I twisted a aftermarket axle off.It seems to me there is not enough gear when I side step the clutch, it dogs down then picks it back up. Not sure of weight? its got to be heavy close to 4000lbs with me in it. ( i'm 300lbs)

man ,thats a heavy car to get moving.

4.56 like tod said, but it will be turnning some R's at the end of the Quarter.

100# = .1 sec.

I have a 72 chevelle street car I used to run. It had a bench seat and a small block and all the factory steel it was around 3700 lbs I think.

The Chevelle I am speaking of is in the back ground of my sig pic, it is red. The tires on it were 275 60 15 M$ H Race masters I believe they are 28" tall. I thought I needed more geare in it. It had a 4.10 gear and wasn't bad at all around town...ran around 3300 at 55 mph.

The tires that barely fit on the Nova are 32 x 14 stiff sidewall goodyears on a 14" rim. They were way overinflated when I took that pic cause they didn't want to pop out on the bead....junk rims in my opinion.

here is an old pic of it back when I was running it in trophy. It is completely apart right now being redone after the flood last summer.

so what do you think 4:11s or 4:56s ?? I do wanna drive it on the street . the 26 inch tires should help with the 4:11s but I think they might hurt with the 4:56s?? :?

Tod74

I ran mine with 4.10 gears and a 26 inch tall tire for awhile. They were g60 M&H racemasters. It was around 3500 rpm on the highway at 55 mph. When I went to the 275 60 15 tire it dropped the rpm a little on the highway but not a bunch really. If your main concern is street cruising, go with the 4.10. If your main concern is E.T. I would go with a 4.56 because the car is a tank. If you are not comfortable with the rpm you are turning you can always go to a taller tire. JMO

If your not gonna drive it on the freeway put the 4.56 in it if your gonna drive on the freeway some put A 4.30 in it and don't drive over 50. I had a 4.11 with 26'' m/t steet slicks on my 69 camaro 355 w/12 to 1 comp. and about the same cam you have w/205 Dart pro 1 heads 60cc with a Victor jr. & 750 holly @ 3700 #'s and a 4 speed and it did great. for street racing red light to red light. no freeway use 4.56 for sure. 3.73 to 4.11 may be a waist of money. HAVE FUN
