Called every so called "high performance exhaust shop" in the STL metro area.

Nobody has 2-3/8 exhaust tubing.

Summit only has it in stainless.

SPD Exhaust is out in Cali, and would charge me more to ship it than than the material cost would be (I know, I just got gouged by them on shipping two weeks ago).

Anyone know where I can get some from somewhere in the Midwest?

I checked McMaster-Carr for S&G, but they didn't have it either.

I want 8 feet total. Can be cut in 1/2. I could get away with 6 feet total (again, can be cut in half) if need be. I'd just prefer a little extra, just in case.

I wound up cutting up my old headers and getting the straight pieces out I needed. Should have just enough to do the other side.

I looked we don't have any 2 3/8 scrap. Chicago Tube and Iron sells us a lot of our tubing along with METALMATIC but I don't know if they deal with individuals with sm orders. Looks like you got what you needed anyway...

Not 2-3/8" you're not. I've already called every exhaust shop around, including one that's named "Pro Exhaust". Figured a "Pro" shop would have it, right??? Not!!!

Thanks much guys... I'm in a holding pattern right now.

I cut up the OLD driver's side header and just barely got enough straight tube from it to get the new header done.

I think I might be ok on the pass side. It had more straight tube due to not having to get around the steering column than the driver's side did.

I might luck out and just have to spend some time at the wire wheel removing old header paint.

But again, thanks for the efforts, and I will call those companies first if I wind up needing more tubing.

Jegs sell hooker bends part number 520-12596 is a J bend 2.3/8" 18 ga with a 15" and 6" leg using a 3.5" radi bend cost 23.99 or the same piece in 16 ga is 520-12396 costing 36.99. I did not check there availability however.

that's robbery in my opinion. I need to tell my boss to start selling our scrap from work if people will pay that much for mild steel individual bends...wow.

I am guessing that you have a handle on why we charge so much to fab custom headers now. I pay about 30% less each from Jegs but only need 14 pcs to fab a set for big block. The labor required to assemble them well and build a custom merge collector is where the money is in custom pipes.

I bend tubes for a living...most of it is 304 stainless on 1 to 1 radius up to 7" in diameter. It isn't easy and I completely understand why headers cost what they do.Especially ones pieced together from individual bends...we use CNC benders and do the bends all out of one piece of tube unless the straight lengths are so short that it isn't possible, in which case we compound bend them. A few we cut and weld but not that many.

Well I just got the driver's side header tubes all finished welded and sanded. You'd be hard pressed to find some of the welds. There are 10 in the header, not including the flange.

Tomorrow I get the joy of tacking the tubes to the flange and figuring out how the hell to get the thing off without removing the fender, or breaking the tack welds.
