Like an Idiot I fell for it. He now has $500 of mine and I have no Kart. Talked with him by phone, text and email for 2 days, but as soon as he got the money, now the Kart is ruined (he said via text) and won't call or return calls. Yet when I had a friend call, he said the kart was still available and that nothing was wrong with the Kart. Wanted him to make an offer, said he'd pay for shipping and that he was selling because he was getting deployed. All the same BS he fed me. :x :x :x :evil:

I sent him a message asking what his bottom dollar was in cash, lets see if he replies. If you sent a check or money order you may have some legal action. Was he supposed to ship the cart to you or were you going to pick it up? Do you have his address or full name?

I just spoke to Seller on the phone, Says his name is Bill Hurter.
says the cart is in great shape, never wrecked and the engine only has 15 minutes of run time.

When I asked him particulars/specifics on the cart, he did not seem to really know much including the size of the engine, but he gauanatees its the all new and ready to go...

He told me that he needs to sell it before he enters the military next week. Says he'll take 600 bucks shipped. If I would send him a deposit of 300.00 he would ship the cart to me and then I could send him the balance after I received the cart.

I smell a fish.

I also did a quick search for Mr. Hurter on the internet, no home phone is listed.

A reverse phone search shows his cell was issued out of Tuscaloosa, Alamaba.

Regarding $500 and the felony rule, no problem there- he has more than $500 invested and your prior email suggests you wont take less than $600. So the deal must have been $500 and $100 at pick-up- correct Thecurti? No longer a misdemeanor now a felony.

Thecurti- look closely at the info I sent you- It will help to begin your pursuit. However i can help you further, running down any type of internet fraud is easier than you think-proliferance of the internet has required law enforcement to catch up. Its just that you must have a systematic approach. I will also help you track down his family- pretty simple once you know where the public records databases are.

The methods I can share with you DO NOT suggest legal- its all tactics that you can apply yourself.

Remember one thing- Scammers are BETTING that you wont chase them due to legal fees- when you remove that from the equation, things get much more interesting- I have dealt with nearly 5 attempted scams including one from an attorney (he was turned in to the AZ Bar)- Each one caved; one cried on the phone.

Bold talk by the scammer conceals fear.

This helps your case- You have an attempt to defraud a larger population- Thecurti- get your info together names etc- You can get Law Enforcement very interested in this guy, but you need to chase himm.

Think of it this way- he essentially ripped off your son- are you going to allow that to happen?

You have resources on this forum as well as Legal, Law Enforcement and possibly military-

What would the Military do if they were made aware that an Interent scammer was citing them as a key point in perpetuating his scam? Does that make them an accessory? Not likely but at a minimum it wont make them happy.

I give them a couple trys to repay and then- I report it to the IRS as compensation- makes it immediately taxable on filing Form 1040 at April 15. You can go to the IRS site and get form W2 or 1099. Mike2124 is your contractor and you paid him for services so its taxable- Now here is the great thing- he will owe approximately 30% in taxes- so he has to give Uncle Sam a third.

Now since he is a liar (fact since he never paid you and he said he would)- unless he reports it as income- the sum of his tax records wont equal his 1040- that should trigger an IRS notice of tax revision plus earnings and late fees.

If it were me- after I submitted the 1099, I would call the Service and make sure they checked his tax filing- mention the internet scam(s) and his obvious undeclared revenue and then suggest an audit. If you get a greenhorn or a seasoned rep it doesnt matter- good chance they will go after him.

I have actually seen it and yes they would take him. I have seen people get a waiver to join the Army when they have felonies on their record. I had one in my last unit before I got out that had like 3 felonies on his record and they still let him join.

Hmmm, might be useful to do a google search of court cases in those jurisdictions, now that you have a growing file of info you could see any pending litigation. Wonder what the Court or plaintiff would think of an Internet Scammer.

Have you spoken with his relatives yet to see what they think of his scamming a kid, especially when you have proof? Might be interested.

Think about establishing a "Scammed by Bill Hurter Group" on Myspace or Facebook. I wonder who would join. Might even twitter about Bill Hurter; your followers might follow him home since you have his address.

There is much to do theCurti, and you have a lot of information on Mr. Hurter. Get it organized so you can notify local law enforcement, and all those people who emailed you- they should be a part of the report.

Forums, so many forums- Whatever you do dont post on all the big ones telling them to watch out for Bill Hurter, that might hurter his ability to transact business on the web.

A shame you dont know his enlistment officer. Oh thats right you know everything about him now, guess that would be easy to verify.

Oops, I didnt want to spill the beans on mild Bill Hurter and your ability to legally track him down, prosecute and recover your loss. But thats ok, the big one is still our secret.

PM bjuice or Topsportsman1 and see if Mike2124's posts are all coming from one IP address. If so then the users are either the same person of in the same location.

separate locations lend credence to the two person story- but doesnt negate accessory to the incident.

If it turns out that its a separate user, then its simply an accesory to the internet fraud perpetuated by the seller, and perhaps indicative of a "ring"- Local law Enforcement must be notified as this post will get their attention.

I expect that there will be charges- and all this so that Mike2124 could deprive a man's step-son of a go-cart. If I am the curti- I am just hoping mike gets a few months jail time and the inmates understand he took advantage of a kid- You know how that works.
