i gotta a 406ci with dart iron eagle cast heads 2.02's....flat tappet cam..5.20 lift range.....vic jr intake...750 Holley HP
its also 10:1 motor with flat Tops
It made right at 460hp on the dyno with almost same amount of TQ.
i know the 383's are a little different set up..but i would say you should be in the 420/430 range .....
i think it would be quicker if you took that Tunnel ram off and went with a good intake and Good single carb.

Yea I was waiting for the GET RID OF THOSE CARBS , but if I get tired of them it is real easy to swap out. Or just shoot a little giggle gas at it!

My boy had this exact same motor in his S10 about 8 - 10 years ago except he had a strip dominator intake on it. Truck was 100% stock. He ran a 10.73 at the track with a 2500 stall converter, a 350 turbo tranny, 3.73 gears w/ alburn posi, no suspension and a single jimmy evans 850 or 950 (Can't Remember) blower carb on it. Fuel - Pump Gas.
Installed a 125 Shot put him in the 10.20's - 10.30's
Thru a 144 baby blower on it with the 125 shot and it dipped into the 9's.
The major amount of work he performed went into the heads, mild port job, but polished the runners until you could see yourself intakes and exhaust...
Check out the very beginning of the video on my race space. there is a picture of the truck before they started installing the chassis work on it.

planning on cleaning up the heads. The heads are advertised as 64cc chambers on one ad and 67cc on another will have to cc them to get real numbers. mid tens is kinda my goal. so that is encouraging

Ditto on losing the twin carb(s) and tunnel ram, they look cool, but are way overkill on most apps.
If your wanting mid 10's, I'd slap on a good single plane intake and a 750 Dp and you should be close.
The bog your gonna get off line with them twins is going to kill your sixty foot which in turn will kill and your ET> JMO.

I have a generic single plane manifold and 650 carb also, but the tunnel ram is going to stay for now just going to race it when I can. When I get bored I will changed it. I am going up on compression though around 11.5 to 1

11 and a half to 1 on the compression is really pushing it for pump gas, so if you are going to run good gas might as well go with more compression. I have ran 11 to 1 in a 406 on premium pump gas but wouldn't go much over that. JMO

Ok change 1 to change 36. I picked up a set of dart pro 1 heads that have been ported. 2.08 in 1.60 exh 49 cc chambers which should put me around 12 to 1 with the flat tops. (not doing much street cruising,) that was the 3rd or 4th change anyway. I am needing cam recomendations...... around a 28-2900 lb truck, 383, dart pro 1 heads ported,1.6 rockers, springs are good for .550, but can be changed ,tunnel ram, twin 650s,3500 stall , Th 400 abruzzi trans reverse shift ,manual valve body trans brake , quartermaster ladderbar back half, narrowed 9 inch,w/4.62 or 4.56 wfull spool. Ok after listing all that, my question was what cam do you think?

What type of cam are you thinking of running, Flat-tappet, roller, hyd or mechanical?

probably a flat tappet solid. Ive got a message into Lunati for a recommendation on a solid roller but havent heard anything back. It really depends on how much extra HP I can get with a roller, compared to a flat tappet If it is worth the $ for the roller than that will be it.
