What sort of options do you have on a 396 to make more cubes (power)? I don't find much info on this. One post I read said to not overbore a bunch as cylinder walls get thin quickly. I see very few stroker pieces for these. I know most will say find a 454 & go on, but I already have this & running it now. Any ideas? Thanks, Dave

If its a GOOD runner?
Think about a Power ADDER?Cause No matter what you do to make More Cubes, you wont Gain as much as you will with a Power adder?
Small Supercharger would be My OPTION?But,thats Just ME.......

x2 on the small supercharger
If it dont need rebuilt and runs good then just leave alone and add something else to create more power

Them 396's are dinosaurs BUT they are good.
I had one in a nova a owed a while back, it would scream and lasted a long time before a (stock) rod finally gave out.
I ran 11 to 1's forged pistons, small 108cc closed chamber peanut port heads, 305 magnum cam, team G, 750 holley, Turbo 400, 411 gears - ran 7.40's 1/8 shifting @ 5500rpm.
I also had a small adjustable Nitrous plate on it which made it really come alive, a 125 pill shaved off about four tenths spraying just off the line.
Now if I had to do it all over again I would up the compression to around 13 to 1, slap on some open chamber heads, a faily large roller cam, 1050 dominator, powerglide, 513 gears.
Should be a 6 second car easily.

It depends on the cating. There were some 396 blocks that were capable of going to 4.25 bore to make a 427...I have a friend that went this rout...but you need to make sure you have the thick casting first...sonic checking it is the only right way but a backyard way is pulling a freeze plug and looking in there...I read it on here something about whether or not a pencil would go between the cylinders I think it was.
