To all that can lend some advice, i am running a 540 with 9:6:1 comp. on the street . the car is used for cruising and for the track.Would a vac pump be benefical or use a pcv valve and a breather instead? :?:

IMO a vacuum pump is not needed, not saying it wouldnt gain some hp and such but you'll be plenty fine on a street car without one.

I'm in the process of putting a vacuum pump on a Top Dragster engine. I haven't started plumbing it yet and I'm at about $625.00. With a pcv system you can do it for about 10 bucks. And like hammer said not needed for the street.

I spent over a grand on the last one I installed.
A buddy of mine just put a star vacuum system on his street rod. All said and done itdsinto him for about 780.00

using a breather line to the exhaust with a chambered muffler might be bad news...exhaust might be brought up and pushed in thru breather at valve cover....

Standard kits have a check valve on the vacuum line at at the collector. I would not run with out one.
