Just about an hour and a half ago we drove past a clean looking 1970 el camino but it had those Gigantor freaking wheels on it. A couple weeks ago I saw a beautiful 69 Chevelle convertible but it had those monster wheels...just ruined the looks of it in MY opinion....and that's only my opinion. If you like them by all means, more power to ya.

tod, I have heard of car being called donks, what the hell does it mean?? :)
DONK:
Any POS late 70's or early 80's American heap (preferably an Impala) that has large enough wheels installed until it resembles (and rides and handles like) a Conestoga wagon. This is done so it sits up high enough so as to be at the same eye level as the Playas with real juice ridin in their Escalades. Adding in a bad candy paint job and Wal-Mart sub box completes the transformation.
With no money left over for necessary suspension and brake upgrades, the lifespan is limited to a few drug runs or the first Police chase, whichever occurs first.

That is really something... awful wheels... not even lowered, looks like 4wd with dumbazz written all over it!!! What a waste of a Chevelle. It would take 13,500 just to get it back to what it SHOULD look like. BTW: I believe that is a 1972 Chevelle...

I saw a car that had 1 foot tall numerals on the side that read "26". I was trying to figure out whose football number or Nascar number it was until my son said, 'that's the size of the rims".

He was being sarcastic , and besides the rear bumper it looks like it has 71-72 front fenders ...70's had a light on the lower front fender,71-72 DIDN'T. But then again there isn't a good view of the front fender.

Those big rims are all the rage here in Memphis, impalas, crown vics, lincoln navigators, cutlass supremes you name it and they gotem on there.
Their motto is the bigger the better, kinda like the MR T gold chains of yeteryear.
Landon worked on a cutlass supreme with 24's, he ended up having to put 513 gears in to make it drive halfway decent....lol 8)

I concur totally Signs. The thing is... Chip Foose at least lowers the cars, tubbs them, does killer body/paint, & the end result is a great custom such as a 67 Mustang FB that looks modernized. It may not be our cup of tea, but at least it looks good & is done well.
Then you have these 2 Chevelle dudes... what can be said about them??? THERE MUST BE A NEW LAW ENACTED THAT PROTECTS CHEVELLES FROM POTENTIAL MOLESTERS... "HB 64- 72" preventing the purchase or restoration of a 64 to 72 Chevelle 2dr to mentally unstable people who might pose a threat to the stability of the Chevelle image. Those who break this new law will be forced to drive a Toyota Prius for the rest of thier pathetic lives.

I knew I could wake you guys up!!. Been kinda quiet on here for a while.
I like all brands, but I hate Ford Power Strokes. Don't care what year I hate 'em all. I've been in the rental business for 15 years and all we have ever run has been Ford F450 and F550 service trucks. I could tell you so many problems with 'em till you would laugh. From 1999 until 2004 we didn't have 1 make it past 25k miles without having major engine failure. This was about 10 or 12 trucks. I 1998 I was sitting at a red light in my '97 F450 with only 22k miles on it with the clutch pushed in when the camshaft broke!
This was after a dozen camshaft sensors and 2 computers had been replaced. Not to mention dozens of injectors gone bad over the years.
To be honest on my personal vehicles I've had more trouble out of my Chevys than Fords, but never owned a Power Choke.
DirkaDirka
07-29-2009, 07:19 PM
Well I can honestly say that the power stroke aint abad engine. I own a 2005 F-350 with 120,000 miles on the 6.0 power stroke diesel. The only hting I am having probs with it right now is i need to change the other 6 injectors and rebuild the tranny. But even then the only thing wrong witht the tranny is the tow/haul option. When i am towing I cant put it in tow/haul or it will shift extremely hard when slowing down to stop. Anyways, I'm not trying to write a book just trying to be brought into the racing family here on RJ. I am hoping to have a car that I can run with you guys down the track one day.

As long as were talking about high mileage vehicles, I've got 270K something on my 95 CHEVY suburban, original motor and transmission.
I load it up to the gills every weekend, trailor, racecar, generator, battery charger, 2 coolers, spare for trailor, floorjack, usually 2 or 3 kids, my girlfriend, my fat a$$ and it's never let me down - now it might croak on me tomorrow but for now its still ginning.

I know... I put myself out there on that one. I figure I dish out enough teasin' so I must be able to lick my own wounds too. I will say I could not hurt that BMW... tough car for sure.
Dirk- you will be wiser hanging out here. I actually did not understand carburators AT ALL when I came here. The boys here taught me "carb 101". I learned about valve lash too, with no tounge lash from the helpful boys here at RJ. It is has been much more than gear head stuff though...
It is friendship with some good folks. People have been through some tough things here too. Some have died, some have poured out some heavy stuff... we stick up for each other & we support each other well. There have been floods, fires, wrecks... etc When there is a arrogant outsider who picks on someone here, they get all tore up by the RJ wolf pack. You will be in good hands.
Rudy: actaully... I thought you DID MISS that incredibly deep, penetrating comment I made back there. You know I am just teasing ya'... let's not get "stuck" on that... it was kinda dirty... I can't really put my finger on where I was going with it. At least we are not proctologists.

I know I have A LOT to learn when it comes down to working on cars. Yes I do mechanis work on cars. Yes I do body work on cars. But just because I do it doesnt mean i know everything and I tell everybody I talk to that I dont know everything. I have been wrenching on cars since I was 14ish. I am now 31(man I'm old) and I have still yet to build my first engine. Thats why I was hoping with the great guys here on RJ(hint hint) they will help me find(or at least) tell me what the best parts to put into a racing engine as well as teach me the best they could how do to something. I have also tried other forums where all they do is put down each other cuz they think that they are better than everybody else. I am glad my wife sent me this site on yahoo messenger.

Well Men- I am just damn glad we all can flick each other some crap every once in awhile. Life can be pretty serious- I love to be here to get away from the grind.
Hemi- I know you were just jabbing me... I gave you an open door. And yes, that car never got me in trouble because it was a DOG. All the way up to about 3200RPM it would be dead... & then then the explosion of weak power kicks in. It was a turd....
Dirk: It is good to know about things... I thought I knew a few in my 39 years of life... but I came here & was taught alot more. As long as we are open to learning & listening, there is much wisdom to be had yet. My prayers go to your wife + Beast too.
YO Rabbit... have you seen the PT Cruisers like we have here w/ white walls & flames??? Seems like every time I see one, it is old people who think they are driving a 40 Ford wanna bee or it is being pulled behind a MO HO or something... I hate those damn things!!! Tasers are definately cool, but I hate how they leave all those little serial tracking confetti pieces after they are used... makes it so you can be identified every time you use one.
Rudy, I love the pic of the 69er.... that is a clean lookin car. Someday maybe mine will look more clean like that... love the vinyl. Your son would have loved it too. If I was smarter, I would post a pic of my car soon.

See I want to learn as much as I can so I can pass that knowledge off to others as well as my daughter. She is going to be just like me. I got a 350sb in my garage right now(I think it might be a corvette motor  ) anyways that I want to build up really nice if y'all know what I am talking about with hepl from you guys.
LOL. You're gonna fit right in with this crowd!!! lol
Scooter, None of the White Walls here yet. lol
You live in the middle of Tree Hugger country don't you?? Supprised you can sell a gun there. In the South we kill it, DEEP FRY it, add some salt and pepper and EAT IT!
I remember going to school with a 30-06 a .22 and a 12ga shotgun in the gun rack of my truck. You remember those old gun racks that fit in the window!? Can you imagine a kid doing that today!
Tasers leave traceable confetti?? Dad gum can't we have any fun anymore!!

Rabbit-
Yeah we have some of the tree huggers here. But we also have a lot of LOGGERS... so the hippies do not last long in the woods. Where I live, they either love my company or hate it. I sell mostly compound archery/accesories & cross bows right now. Hell, we employ almost 400 people so the tree huggers should back off... freakin whiners.
Yeah the tasers will shotgun 100's of tiny coded confetti... it sucks... no way around it.
Dirk- Could that Corvette motor be the one in the 70's Vette that Dirk Diggler had in "Boogie Nights??" That was a interesting movie... That should be the new name of your future race car... Boogie Nights... I like it.
Anyways, before you know it, you will be running 10 flat in the quarter mile w/ a Corvette motor.... go get em' dawg!!! No seriously, stick around & you will reap the benifits of wisdom here. No better way than to start w/ a SBC... it is affordable & makes great HP. That is such a cool age your daughter is at. I goes away fast... I love them when they are at that age!!! I have a couple kid's too 5yr Girl & 7yr Boy. Those kids made me a better man... best part of my life.
Well, have a good weekend, my computer @ home is dead right now, so I will talk to you guys when I get back on Monday. Scooter

Good one Scooter. I second that. BOOGIE NIGHTS it is!!
Dirk I'm sure you're gonna make a great Dad! I've never had had any kids, but I can imagine how much they would change you life! Don't worry about being a smart azz. I live for wise cracks and smart aleck comments. It's makes my day to laugh with you guys. Kinda quiet at my house most of the time.

OK OK.... so back to the 72 Chevelle. My first Chevelle was a 72. It had a fairly big cam that was way too big for the SBC which had 194's & basically stock internals... not to mention that the valve giudes were bad & it smoked when I got on it. If that was not enough, later I aquired a cheap Weiand Tunnel ram w/ 2 holley 600's which made it even slower... but it looked awesome from the front. I put a shift kit in the stock TH350 (which had no stall) & basically ruined the transmission. It had 308 gears in a 10-bolt (one wheel burnoff's only when wet). It was primer gray.... still colum shift. Oh Yeah, it was bad. I was 17 back in 87' or 1988 when I had that pig. Man how the time flies.... YEAH!!!!!
This had been another rendition by yours truley, Scooter.
PS: This thread has now become the "1972 Chevelle or die thread"

Yeap that things is ugly..but the car is a good car but he needs to take off the wheels and do something about all that wrighting all over it OFF..He wants everyone to know its a 1972 Chevelle and that its Red..But the wheels are way to much and the wrighting all over it has to go too..if i bought the car i would put tint on the windows and as dark as i can get it So people wouldnt look at me and laugh   and when i got home then pull the tint off of it and put more wheels on it and then have it repainted then ill be ready to go..But dont get me wrong theres nothing wrong with the car as far as being a Chevelle..Cause i love to have a 69 Chevele But All im saying is that the wheels and paint has to go LOL!!!!!
