Is it just me, or do you guys ever have neighbors come over and bug you while your working on your car? I HATE THIS. Today I was sanding on my Chevelle and a neighbor came over to "See what I was up to" I kept sanding and he kept talking...Always about the super bad ass chevelle he USED to have.( I SWARE ON MY LIFE HE EVEN SAID IT HAD A VETTE MOTOR IN IT!!! LMAO) I try to be polite and talk to him, but I also kept working hoping he got the hint. I even picked up a Air sander and started sanding some body filler that didn't need sanding, just hoping the noise would shut him up and get him to leave. No luck. He just talked louder. He finally said he would let me work and then left....only to return 5 minutes later with another guy that I have never met. This guy was telling me how good he could do paint and body work...then asked if he could paint his son's Moped in our garage with my equipment cause he didn't have a compressor or a gun. I just met him. I told him I didn't think so I would be needing the garage for my stuff all summer. How the heck do you get rid of these people without getting the reputation of being the neighborhood JERK?

P.S. The second guy didn't own a bad ass car but he USED to have a scooter that would out run any 600CC Sport Bike in the eighth mile.

I live in an old neighborhood and almost everybody is older and don't come out of the house often, but I hate it when somebody comes over.
Kinda makes me nervous too. So many people have a buddy or know somebody that has a bad azz 4x4 with a big bad motor. Man I don't mean to be rude, but if you don't have 1,250+hp in a small truck set up to mud drag you aint ever gonna touch me, and like you I really don't have all day to tell somebody all about my truck. Not to mention I don't want any help because I can do it faster and better by myself 99.9 % of the time.

I know what you mean.

BTW Tod can I borrow your shop to build a 44' enclosed trailer this fall / winter?? I want take up much room at all  !! LOL

I am more concerned with the fact he brings over a guy I have never met...not saying the guy would do anything but we all know there are lots of thieves around and they were just looking around at everything..tools, parts etc. Again...NOT saying he was up to no good but I don't know the man from Adam.

I know. That was the first thing I thought about.
Hey this reminds me about my GPS getting stolen last year. If you have a GPS, DO NOT PUT YOUR HOME ADDRESS IN IT. Since mine was stolen I've been paranoid. My parents, my friends and my home address were in it. Just put the road or some place near your house or your friends houses in it, not the actual addresses. If my new one gets stolen my home address in the local police dept!!!!

This is exactly why I normally work with the door down(that, and the garage has air conditioning :D ) but I was sanding body filler and I hate doing that inside it makes too much of a mess.

OHHH My GoD! I have been going threw this now for the last six months or so, it has got so bad they will even pull up in the drive way next to the house every sat or sunday morning a start honking, thinking i want to come out and hear them ramble on..... I could tell you some stories u guys would die laughing at thou!!!!!!!!!!!

If im out back of the shop i will hide until they leave, one day i sat in a old rusty 39 chevy pickup for 45 mins before on guy backed out of the driveway(it was probably 95 degrees that day)

I have now fenced off all street access to my property, ran barb wire on top of the fence and put up two gates, now i have to open, close and lock the gates every time i leave.

It helped but they still dont get the idea that i dont want to talk or fix there stuff and when i do have time i want to do something for myself!!!!

My gf says i am too nice and just need to run them off.... but same dill, i dont want to be a ass hole, or that rude guy...... I just want to be alone...

I think the only answer for us is to move far away, were you can not see us in the shop or house from any road. And i am looking for that potential house as we speek!!!!!!!!!

Hand them a sander and see if they are really as good as they say they are.

or tell them that you are busy and dont' have time to talk.

,but some of the funniest things I've ever seen happen around the shop after the work is done. Problem for me seems like I never really gets finished. Seems like I'm always in a hurry to get something done.

we live out in the country so we dont have many neighbors but the ones we do have dont have anything to do with us.i have hair to the middle of my back, 2 earrings and a long beard, that keeps a few away. park a chopped harley in front and the rest stay away.

I always had my buddy over to help me on my car(mostly hang out and dring beer), one day he brought over a friend, I did not think anything of it. I was going on my honeymoon the next week. When I got back ALL of my tools were gone, 3 carbs, 2 sets of headers, 2 intakes, a ton of ARP, a new in the box CV Belt drive. To this day niether one of us had heard from him.

I wish theives were shot instead of getting probabtion / jail time. Maybe if we could just cut their arms off I'd feel better! Sorry guys, it just makes me so mad when I think about someone stealing from someone. We pay our hard earned money for expensive parts and some scum bag steals and sell for pennys!!

This all happned to me when I was 20, total value of parts and tools was over 40k. I still have not recovered.

It's difficult to NOT let the neighbors know you have a race car....The trailer , starting it occasionally etc....but YOU shouldn't have to keep things secret. Scumbags should leave your things alone. What little I have accumulated I have worked hard for, often selling things I wished I could have kept just to be able to afford to have it.

I went through a 3 year period where I was broke into and relieved of my tools and stuff a total of 6 times. All in different cities at shops I worked at and storage units. The low life scum who I catch stealing from me or mine, in the future, will feel the wrath of all those past events. :x
Thieves are way down the pole along with child molesters and rapists.

i dont have that problem a neigbhor problem at home but i used to pit for a guy that had that problem in the pits. There would be 5 to 10 people a night that just sat around the trailer all night not one worth dime they jsut got in my way. One night a mount on the rear sus. broke. and i didnt have much time to get it back together and make the next race so i jsut threw the jack under and went to work and one other the genisis thought it would be a great idea to try and straighten the body and nearly rocked the car off the jack. i crawled out as fast as i could and just about kicked the sh** out of the kid. havnt worked for the guy sence and he hasnt raced since i quit working for him

Hers another perspective.
I now live in a small tightly knit lake commuity, one way in, one way out, not many strangers venturing in, if they do, they get a bunch of funny looks and leave.
But I can understand what your talking about in a residential area, however I've got some good memories of friends and neighbors come by and B/S ing.

I really don't mind it when my neighbors come by to say hey or shoot the $hit but total strangers, nah man not to keen on that.
You never know what makes people tick.
Maybe he just had a huge fight with his wife, the kids were nagging him, or he just needed a breather from his boring life.

I'll chat with anybody for a minute.
I'm usually up for a break every chance I get anyway, I try not to get in hurry when I'm working on my stuff anyways but when I'm busy, they'll know and eventually leave or get a wrench put in there hand.
Cody's friend's (motley crew) like to come by and see whats up alot, I always put them to work, just this past week I got new lower balljoints and a new master cylinder put on my 69 camaro, I barely broke a sweat.

This is a interesting topic that many of us can relate to. My neighbors do not like me much... they hate my car too. I sawed my neighbors mail box down once when I was mad at them for yelling at my friend... only to find out it was the wrong mailbox... killed 2 birds/one stone on that one. Race Cars are not loved in my neighborhood... I hear more about "noise ordinances" than interested gear-heads.

I am in the same situation as Outlaw (except, the hair, earrings, etc. ) out in the middle of nowhere and the only neighbor is my great grandfathers nephew whos 78 years old. I can burn out up and down my road and he loves it anyways!

Scooter you bought killed me laughing so hard!!
Kids like to look at my truck when it's out of the shop, but I guess I'm just not very friendly and most people don't say much or come by. To be honest I really like to bs with anybody, but you just can't trust people anymore.
Trailer talkers. THAT'S ANOTHER TOPIC. Stop by and speak anytime, but please don't hang around and ask me 10,000 questions. I'm the owner, builder, driver and pit guy all by myself and I don't have time to chat until after I race.

I think gearheads are becoming a thing of the past. That's why I like b.s'n with you guys! Maybe we should invent a video game of building engines, transmission and rear ends!!!

You are missing out on a golden opportunity for some free slave labor!!!! Let the neighborhood kids scrape off all that mud. I grew up around sprint car racing and I would have killed for the chance to tag along and be the go-for/mud scraper. Just gotta pick the right kid.One who wants to learn and isn't a troublemaker.

Rabbit: I think you are exactly right.... we are a dying breed. It is simply evolving into something else which is fast & furious wannabees. Man, I miss the 80's when it was common to see a built 69 Chevelle roaring down the street as regular transportation.

these neighbors we are talking about are no different than the ones who come around when I drive my 69 Camaro on the street. They love to recall memories of thier old rides... or thier friends who had Hot Rods. It is like a spark comes on them; maybe a spark they have not had for a long time. I try to be nice to these people- some of them have forgotten about the "bug" of persuing Hot Rods/Race Cars. They have gotten caught up in the daily GRIND... not able to afford them or have no time. One thing is for sure, we are blessed to have these rides & the knowledge to keep the dream alive.

LMAO

Same thing happend to me about a month ago, I told him I don't work on imports, sorry.

I even tell my kin folk the same thing, if they want work done on their car it better be a chevy, ford or dodge, dont show up in my driveway with a maxima or corola and expect any work done.
