Sorta off topic but ...I used to work with a guy, (I'll call him Jim,) who was one of those guys we all know...you know the one who doesn't want to give you anything for a car or part..but once HE OWNS it it is suddenly rare and worth big bucks. He is also the type that would screw you in a heartbeat and laugh about it later..WE all know this type of guy at some point. Well my dad and I were at a swap meet and there he was. He had a booth with various parts for sale. Some sort of nerdy looking guy was looking at some BBC Exhaust manifolds. Jim walks over and says "Yeah those are real good ones.Came off a 69 Chevelle SS396" the guy looks up and says "They're off a truck." The Dude knew what he was looking at andthe fact that my Dad and I were standing there watching JIM stumble and blubber around looking like a fool, trying to act like he hadn't just tried to lie to the guy was priceless.

Off a truck! Priceless!! I don't know schitte about any production parts. What little I know about factory stuff is BBF which I outgrew years ago. I just don't have a need for any OEM parts.

I never really paid much attention other than smirk a little when someone would say "it has a Vette motor" until this thread. I'm supprised any vettes still have their motors in 'em. I had an older lady work for me and she swore her new Impalla SS had a Vette motor in it from the factory. My thought was if it came from the factory with this motor isn't it an Impalla motor?!! BTW. She was from Fl and her tag # was SSMAMA! lol

I assume some dude started the 3/4 cam thing long ago when he discovered it had the lift & duration which was not stock, but not as radical as a "Full Race Cam" which was invented by his older brother or something. You know a Full Race Cam when you hear it on the local Nova in your area.... it bogs until 4700RPM, comes on & takes a dump emitting more black smoke than a diesel.... at a stop, this vechile must be brought to neutral every time. It will always have a "double pumper" on it too (which is also too big). Usually, a mullet is in order & THESE VECILES MUST HAVE REAR AIR SHOCKS PUMPED UP ALL THE WAY. Sometimes you will notice one red light on the back of a traction bar (cause the other is broken) as well. A true poser will bungee/strap a commercial fire extingusher to the seat so that a side view of it can be seen by passing drivers (this is because the full race cam has not "kicked" in yet). Last, a really poor job of an old hood scoop must be installed w/ the "CU IN" painted on the side of it too. Scooter

This will only make sence for the older crowd. There was once a tire brand called Mohawk. It would make a smoky burnout like a funny car. Of course, half of the guys had a peg leg rear end, but the smoke was so thick you could not tell!!!

You got it bluegrass... it is just like saying "I have a 44mag long barrel" when all you got is a .22 short purse pistol. Trouble is, the ignorance of the Vette motor mystique is just that... mystique. Truth is, I had a pretty nasty SBC truck coded motor in a Chevelle once that would smoke a "Vette Motor".... it came out of a 70's 1/2 ton 2wd pick up. Oh well... maybe someday I will be able to have Corvette, 3/4 Cam, angle plug/double hump headed, motor with a full race quad-carb. Until then, I will keep saving my money.

Oh look,...it's just another Corvette......
I believe every car in that picture is a corvette...it is a corvette junkyard.
Hey ya Tod :D
In the ORR world, all of us hardcore 60's -70's Detroit Iron builders and racers say that kiddingly, as over 1/2 of the field of 150 plus cars at most events are of the plastic variety. It takes a ton more effort, horsepower, and thought to make a big brick run as fast as a Corvette. :D From the factory a Vette is waaaaaay more aerodynamic ! Either way it's still racing and we all have fun !!
