View Full Version : Am I doing something wrong?

Okay guys--- I posted my racecar for sale here--- even willing to trade. I added pictures, the motor's fresh, car reasonably priced (I thought) & is even availible as a roller if someone just doesn't trust another's machine shop or whatever. NOT ONE INQUIRY IN WEEKS! :? What am I doing wrong? I realize the economy stinks but as flexible as the sale is, I think someone, somewhere would be at least curious. Any ideas on how to improve the sale-ibility of this thing? It's not that I'm desperate although it DOES sound like it, I'm just wondering what I could be doing wrong?

A ad #
Usually only certain things keep people away from buying things,
1. Most important Price, market sucks now so usually take what you think is good and take some more off it.
2. If its a weird make/style of car/truck

These are generally 2 big things but I'd bet 90% of the time Price is what holds things back

Not sure which add, but if a read an add and it has things like FIRM, selling for a friend and I don't know if XX works, or don't call unless your serious I quit looking Anything that looks like the seller is hard to deal with or doesn't know if XX works is a big turnoff!

But times are hard for many people right now!!

I need to see the ad itself to get a feel for what may be wrong. What kind of car? Does it say no title/bill of sale only? Race car only/ not street legal? does the ad limit the use or potenial use of the car? "Can be put back on street" is subjective too... I might have to re-wire the whole car, put lower compression pistons, or ??? Are you capturing all buyers possible for this car? The ad must cause excitment of the possiblities at a price they can get from on one else/or trade. Does it have "trade value higher" to me, this is unesessary; this can be negotiated at time of sale. Why turn away a buyer in the ad itself??? make them want to call & see the car...then make the bondaries of the deal. Tell us the car, mtr, trans, etc... Are the pic's nice? Does it look like eye-candy? Or does the sun block the color of the paint? etc... good luck!! Scooter

Dad gum Scooter you didn't have to make my post look so bad!! lol
You're right on the money!! So many people really don't know how to Showcase their add and like I was trying to say they make it very clear do not watse my time.
Make the buyer want to call you and make them feel like you took really good care of what your selling.

LOL!! Your'e Funny Rabbit... I hear you. So many times I "scan" the ad looking for the highlights. If I am immediately interested, I will then look over the whole ad w/a fine tooth comb. Otherwise, I am like you & pass quickly to the next one.

I skip ads that have no price. To me no price is an indication that the seller wants too much for it.

Guys, thanks for the input. It's ad # 1537251 if anyone's interested in an Altered. As I said I posted a (fair) price, IMO, and provided plenty of pictures & reason why I'm selling it. -- even willing to separate the car & drivetrain. I just don't get it.... :?

Hemi-

I looked at the ad & the comparables. Yours seems right in there (however I am knowledgable about Altereds). I see many that are rollers... more than turn key Altereds. As far as the trun key comparables, there are some for a little more & some for a little less... but your price seems fair w/ options for the buyer. I will say this- in our current state of economy, your buyer base thinned out alot. But hey, it only takes one buyer to close the deal. Good Luck!! Scooter

You could publish the ET and MPH the car runs. That is as important as the price as far as I am concerned. The cert to 7.5 leads me to believe it is not pushing the chassis tag currently. Things are not good in the economy any where really and more people are realizing it daily. You have a nice hot rod and reguardles of what it ET's it sure appears to be a great deal for someone whom likes them and needs one. A parts inventory and weight without driver would be nice too.

OH NO YOU DON'T!! BEEN THERE, DONE THAT.!! lol   Sorry Scooter I had to do it!! P.S. I want one too!! lol

Nothing wrong to me in the add. It's by far better than most.
I'm bad about looking at adds and waiting until they just about expire before I call or send a mssg. If the add is 70+ days old I think I can get a better deal on it!! jmo..

also delete the ad and repost it, its down aways I am sure.

2nd thing I noticed, what year is the chassis ?

LOL!!! You have to admit, it is really cool though. You are a funny Rabbit. Hey I like that one suggestion about making it a repost... bring it up fresh again... good idea!

I'm not trying to be mean, but I won't spend $25,000.00 on a car that I can't verify how fast it runs et/mph, 60ft, and how consistant it may be. And If I don't know when it was built. No Dyno sheet. Tracks that its been raced at in the last year. Without the width of the cage? It also looks like its been setting up, also not good when selling a race car. I think you should always detail your car before taking pics. 3 or 4 hours that are well worth the time. Your car may be worth $40,000.00 but without the info I just mentioned your looking at $15,000.00. In my experiences.

parker I agree, but his add does give enough info to get you intersted to send a mssg or call. I'd rather talk to someone and get a feeling about the person before I believe all the info posted. But you are correct and I'm not trying to say not to post that kind of info.

I agree, but I look at hundred of ads and only respond to a few. I do have to say I think hemicop coming on here and asking these questions is a way good idea. Just by his doing this thread, I think he'll find a way to sell the car at full value. Very good thread my friend. I may have to try the same thing next time I have a car for sale. My cudos to ya.......
hope it moves for you,

I guess I missed that in your 1st post but my post was about selling in general. I think right now money is tight for most people.

That was my boy's. He got rid of it about a year ago. It was a 49cc and he said he had it up to 30 mph. We live in a subdivision and there were a couple of people that would call the law every time he got it out.

All legitimate concerns & I do appreciate the input. I just added its best e.t., 60fts. are in the 1.18/1.20 range and it is pretty consistent. As to a dyno sheet, I admittedly didn't dyno the engine nor have I recently ran the car since, as I mentioned, I simply can't afford to race this type of car anymore & don't want to abuse a perfectly good, fresh motor for a potential buyer.
The bottom line of all this, isI have a car built that I really can't afford to race & don't want to screw it up for its new owner.

DAM COMMUNIST!! We have a few kids that have small bikes in my subdiv. I like seeing kids ride. Those were some of the funnest years of my life!! And of course the begenning of learning to work on things too!!.
I'd rather see 'em outside riding a bike then inside on a dam computer all day. Hmmmm what am I doing this morning. On a dam computer and I have to load up and race in a few hrs!!
Goota go get Rabbit ready to whoop some butt tonight
See you guys later and good luck to everybody racing today!!
