Hey guys, I am having a heck of a time with atleast 2-3 ground moles tearing up my yard and need some idea to get rid of them.
Heard they eat grubs in the yard, so got the grub killer and spread it all over yard.
Tried the yard spread to get rid of them out of the area.
Have tried the peanuts they sell that will kill them, and now have a trap that triggers when the dirt moves but they somehow set it off and dont get hit.
Any other ideas, my nice yard has now turned to crap because of these damn things ! Thank you !!

a rich person woke up one morning and found molehills all over his lawn. He had spent a lot of time and money to make his lawn look beautiful and was obviously furious at the mole. In fact, he couldn't sleep or eat because he was so troubled. His attempts to capture the mole were unsuccessful and only added to his frustration. Eventually he placed an ad in the local paper looking for a mole catcher. It was the neighbourhood mole trapper who answered the ad and he asked the rich man, "How much will you pay me if I catch the mole?" Without hesitation the rich man replied, "I'll give you 500 dollars, but I also want you to give him the worst death you can think of because of all the sleepless nights and stressful days that mole has caused me."
The next day the mole catcher showed up and said, "I've caught your mole and I've come to collect." The rich man was jubilant, but he had to inquire, "And what death did you give him?" "I gave him the most horrible death I could possibly think of", the catcher replied, "I buried him alive!"

Hey David,
My stepfather made up a hose to fit over the exhaust of his riding mower , he would find a fresh tunnel in his yard and stick the pipe in it and go inside and drink a glass of tea while the engine was pumping exhaust into the tunnel...WORKS,,,..probally not inviromental safe but the moles don't stand a chance.....Paul :D

It will take you all summer to get rid of the grubs, but you are correct they are in your yard for the grubs.
Placing small hair clippings in a fresh mole hole will cause them to scratch themselves to death. You can go to a local beauty shop and ask for hair clippings, I am sure they won't cost you nothing.

Take moth balls and semi-crush them with a hammer. (Is semi-crush a word?).
Push small pieces into the tunnel every three feet or so.
They will leave.

Dave, we got a cat, not for catching moles, but as a pet. When he was young tho he would leave us a portion of every mole he caught as a love offering, he'd catch two or three moles every day. finally the word got out in the mole population, they packed up their mining operations, and moved on to safer digs, so to speak. Would you like a cat?

Dave, as a side note, we had another cat that showed no interest in catching moles. So if you want me to send you a cat, you have to promise not to out me in the scammer section, if this cat won't hunt :!:

Dave, if you can catch the moles alive, I think we should race them.

My grandfather used to stand over a mound with a homemade stick with a spike sticking out the end. When the dirt moved he would stab the little guy. I remember seeing 5 to 10 moles on the sidewalk at a time, I guess grandpa's trophies. Man them were the good ole days........

Varmint Cong   :lol:Curtis are you a chewer or a non-chewer? :) If you're a chewer, your scent is on the gum, so go ahead and pop her in without the gloves. No sense in wasted motion.

I like the Cat idea. Maybe you could rent a good one for a few days. LOL
You are right about the grubs. You can kill the grubs overnight if you use a simple pesticide and water the yard gooooood. The water is what activates the pesticide. You can use plan old dish washing detergent and your garden hose to flush any mole crickets or grubs out of the ground.
(only need to test in a small area) It want kill them, but it will make 'em come out of the ground so you can identify what's under there.
As for the mole you probably have several of 'em so don't give up after you catch 1 and don't tell your buddies what their eating for the 4th!!!

I recently had the same problem and tried the poison bait, the spike trap and the grub eliminator spray. All were worthless. Finally bought a gopher and mole repellent at Lowes and followed the directions. Problem seems to be under control as of now. Doesn't kill them but they do go away. My neighbors have the problem now.

Other than tunnels in your yard, they don't bother anything. They actually areate your yard for ya! They eat worms, grubs and other insects, but you are right just trying to kill the bait want get rid of them. Part of the reason is you never really kill all their food supply. This is a trap and video I found for you.

The only real way to get rid of the moles is to use the spring trap. Trust me I have tried all of the above mentioned remedies and they don't work. ( at least not for me ) but there is an art to setting the trap. Next time make the hole just big enough to fit the trap and take the thin part of a mason jar lid and bend it into a v shape and when you put the loose dirt back in the hole, put the lid on top of the dirt so the trap trigger is resting on the lid.

We have used the traps that5 are spring loaded that stab a fork into them and we have also used the ones that are a loop that you push into the run....They are a pain to get set but they work much better than t5he spring loaded pitch fork type...at least for us.

You have to use the sissor type traps not the spring loaded spike type

Seen the vid on them neat cylindercal traps, they seem to work for dude, He had a bunch of dead ones on the vids, but damit man, they are more complitarded to use / set up than a little bit.
I've used juicy fruit gum before, leave the wrapper on.

This is the type we have done the best with...but they are difficult to get pushed into the ground.

Get an acetylene and oxygen torch, light it and get the mixture just as you would to cut or weld, put the flame out by sticking the tip in the dirt, bury the tip in the mole hole & let the gas & oxygen run for 5 minutes.pull the torch out and shut it off.with a match on a long stick touch off the gas. end of problem. we did this at a house on the cliffs overlooking the pacific ocean and fired gophers and moles several hundred yards out in the ocean.
