WHY WON'T MY CAR IDLE WHEN I PUT IT IN GEAR.

I'd check torke converter may not be stalling right. If its a high stall converter it shouldn't effect idle to much.

Possible vacuum leak!

CONVERTER IS NEW ATI 8 INCH.
I SHALL NOW CHECK FOR LEAKS AROUND CARB.

HOW WOULD I KNOW IF CONVERTER IS NOT STALLING RIGHT?

CONVERTER IS NEW ATI 8 INCH.
I SHALL NOW CHECK FOR LEAKS AROUND CARB.
also check around the intake runners where it meets the head

Take the chips out and stall it up on the transbrake, see where it goes too. Usually on an eight inch converter, if your engine will idle fine in park it will idle in gear. Now if its starting to load up in park, you know its not the converter. You can check for a vacuum leak by putting your hand over the carb, it should pick up the idle. There is a number of things that will keep your engine from idling right. I just interupted that your engine idles fine when its not in gear and dies when you put it in gear.

NO TRANS BRAKE,JUST REVERSE MANUAL VALVE BODY.IF YOU PUT YOUR HAND OVER THE CARB WONT' THAT CHOKE IT OUT?I DONT THINK ITS THE CONVERTER AS IT LAUNCHERS HARD WITH ONE WHEEL IN THE AIR.

Cam isn't right.
THIS CAM WAS BUILT FOR MY MOTOR WITH THE AFR HEADS I ORDERED.

How fast is it idling in park? Have you tried turning the idle speed up? Mine won't idle below about 1700 somethin' like that.

Jeff somethings you might check is..
Fuel pressure 7 psi
Idle screws out 1 1/2 to 2 turns
Make sure your needle seats are not running over
Check for vacuum leaks
Check vavle lash
I've seen guys drill an 1/8 hole in the butterfly to help to keep their engine from loading up.
A few things to check...........

SCREWS WERE OUT 1.5 TURNS,TURNED THEM OUT TO 2 TURNS AND IT NOW IDLES FINE.

If turning the idle screws out another 1/2 turn fixed your idle, then you were to lean. The idle screws are a minimal change so your probably still a littel lean, if you have removable air bleeds on the top of your carb. You can put a smaller air bleed in the most outside air bleed from the vent tube to richen your engine at idle alittle more. Otherwise your probably going to have a bog at launch.

I HAVE REMOVABLE AIR BLEEDS AND BOGGING IS A PROBLEM AS YOU CAN READ IN MY OTHER POST.IT LAUNCHES STUTTERS AND GOES DOWN THE TRACK FINE,LAST NIGHT COMING UP PIT ROAD IT HAD A MISS ALSO IT BACKFIRED THRU THE EXHAUST WHEN I LET OFF THE GAS AFTER MY RUN.

What jets are you running and what size is your carb.

950 HP BODY 840 CFM CANT REMEMBER JET SIZE AS IM AT WORK.50 CC PUMP IN FRONT AND 30 CC IN REAR SQUIRTERS ARE 40 FRONT/40 REAR.

Anything over a 35 squiter I would have a .50 cc pump. I think your problem is that your to lean. Now to figure out where your to lean at. Make sure you don't have much free space between you pump lever and the linkage from the carb. It has a small bolt and nut with a spring in between. I think your close on the squiter size I run a 40 to a 45 depending on carb and air. On the air bleeds you can go down say 5 sizes on the idle air bleed and it will richen your idle circuit making your engine more responsive. I don't think it would hurt to go alittle bigger on your jets to see it that helps. I guess I should have asked, do you have an EGT?

NO EGT,THE CARB CAME THAT WAY FROM PRO SYSTEMS AFTER I TOLD THEM MY INGINE SPEC'S AND CAR SETUP.THEY SENT SPARE BLANK BLEEDS.IF I NEED TO DRILL THEM WHAT SIZE SHOULD THEY BE DRILLED OR CAN I BUY BLEEDS LIKE YOU CAN BUY JETS?I ADJUSTED THE FRONT SQUIRTER AS I THOUGHT IT WAS TO LOOSE,I TIGHTEN IT UNTIL I HAD NO OR VERY LITTLE PLAY .

Good, Yes you can buy air bleeds. First I would probably try jetting up a few sizes. Checking your MPH to make sure we don't loose any MPH by jetting up. If we do, we'll have to work on the air bleeds or the amount of fuel coming out of the squiters. And if jetting up fixes your bog and we lose MPH we can always jet up on your high speed to lean the top end down alittle. When you get off check your jets and give me a call. Ill PM you my cell #. I don't think it will be a hard fix.

Have you tried going smaller with the squirter? Now that you have the idle rich enough, you may be putting too much fuel in with the 50cc pump and .040 squirters. JMHO

Timing… many idle problems are caused not enough timing (with big cams)
