hydralic vs solid

ive heard that if i run a solid i will be retightening my valves ever week end but that i wouldnt have to do that with a hydralic is that true

Depending on application.

On a street or bracket engine, once you set hydraulic lifters - you're thru for the duration.

On a street engine with solids, you can go for weeks. You will get used to hearing the lash opening up as it gets a little louder.

For a race engine, lash setting is required each race (sometimes in later rounds) for consistancy and dependability. Pro racers check lash and valve spring pressure after each run. They are rollers but still solid.

If your running the engine in your truck you need hydrolic lifters. Make sure you have hydrolic rollers they'll help a little.

I have a solid roller 590, 310 comp,1.7 roller rockers and have never checked lash at the track, just before starting in spring.

I don't have to adjust mine either. But for txhntr pretty much stock application I don't think a solid cam would be a benefit. One thing if you go to a bigger solid camshaft, you'll need stiffer springs, and if you get stiffer springs you'll probably want to upgrade from stock valves, and stock retainers, and and and stock keepers. Sorry tx there's not a $50.00 fix on a old stock engine to make it a hot rod engine. Wait, save, and build a real hotrod engine.

It all depends on how much power you are looking to make and what you want to do with it. You could put a hydraulic roller in it and make 550 hp pretty easy and be done with it.
