First time out last night since last year. Car has a huge stumble coming out. 3 time runs,3 stumbles. Nothing was changed on the carb and the secondary air valve is set as it was last year. Even driving on the thruway at 60 and mashing it, it stumbles. Driving it on the street there's no problem It doesn't stumble under normal acceleration, but only at W.O.T.. Could this still be the accelerator pump after sitting all winter?

If you're running pump gas, the life span is only about 5-6 months. If you had not treated your gas and then run the engine long enough to get that treated gas up into the carb, you could have varnish built up in the carb ports. Another issue could be an accel pump rubber breakdown with the added ethenal required now days. Either way I'd be doing a super clean and rekit with updated rubber parts. HAVE FUN RACIN' !!!

Wasn't the acc. pump after all. The little "S" curve piece of rubber tube that goes from the vacuum port on the carb to the pull off was disconected for some reason. The way it was resting made it look like it was connected. Thanks for the help anyway

What has changed other than the carb?
The quadrajet operates off of Vacuum...

He was just messing with you guys....you obviously cannot tell when someone is just yanking your chain to get a reaction. I know this for a fact because he told me via PM. he was only playing around...and that he was about done and was going to let you guys know .Anyone that's been here awhile will tell you he isn't the trash talker he has been acting like the last week or so...he is a good dude...he was just trying to get you new guys wound up. I haven't read every post and don't know what all he may or may not have said...but talking about his wife in a disrespectful manor isn't necessary.

ok well thats good but now that its done with
back to the problem at hand
and rochester q-jets they are vacume secondary, there is a lil rod that connects the vacume pump on the carb to the back barrels, and it is how u control when the barrels open
maybe iti got bent a lil more than it should be
idk just an idea
it happened to mine before i went holley

Bowhay, actually there is a adjustment on a spring that controls the opening rate of the air valves ( the top set of butterflies) the bottom butterflies are mechanical, just like a holley double pumper, but the top set of butterflies (the air valves) control how much air that goes into the secondaries and how fast, its a bitch to set the spring properly trust me - you just have to play with it.
Too tight and they take to long to open up causing poor performance, too loose and they open to fast causing a bad bog but then takes off, sounds like yours are to loose.
And that pull off is associated with the choke, its needs full manifold vacuum on that hose, it disables the rear air valves till the choke has fully opened, if its not working or has a leak, the air valves may not open at all or open when the engine to cold to handle that volume of air.

This is 100% correct. Due to the lack of a rear acc pump, you have to rely on the secondary circuits to pull the fuel. When his vacuum line was off, he went to a huge lean position, causing the hesitation.
I have been sucessful in running without the vacuum pod but tightening the spring on the upper butterflys. You had to be above 3500 to go WOT.
