Made three passes. Two not so good driver rusty. The good one short shifted and eased up on the big end a little it went 9.34 at 141 .45. No tuning yet i think there is a 9.20 in it with a little work.

It,s warm enought in Michigan to race already? I thought it would still be too cold.

Better watch it theres no heat (dirty) in the track yet. I seen alot of guys going to fast to quick, (just my 2 cents).

Track was pretty good shape today. Temp was mid 50's sunny. I was taking it easy to see how it felt before i really got into it. I drove it back in the trailer under it's own power that's a plus right there.

Yeah, and so far this year they are really prepping it well for this early in the year. Usually this early and since it's only test & tune they only drag the track and hope for the best but today they also sprayed it twice. I think they want people to know it's a good track and spread the word. Keep people happy and they will be back.

On a good day you should see the high 8's with that set up. I had the same motor, dual dom. with a 4.88 gear in my chevy II and went 8.77 in the 1/4. on motor.

Yeah i'd be real happy with 8.9's even 9.0's. We had a pretty good head wind today that didn't help any.

Hey bjuice, the old motor was the 477. The 540 picked up everywhere. The 60' was 1.31 leaving at only 4200 where as my best before was 1.36. Lot more torque carried the front tires to about the 50' mark. Found out my jetting is really fat by 5 or 6 sizes so that will really pickup the MPH. The one good 90% pass as i was feeling out the car was 9.34 @ 141.99. I'm sure there is an easy 9.20's maybe more.
Tod i was shifting it at only 6800 since the motor was new. I'm going to try 7000 and 7200. Also i'm going to play with launch RPM and see what it likes. What do you shift your 540 at ?

Complete the Shift about 5% RPM over the rpm that peak horsepower was at. I like to pull the lever at 7400 to get 7650 with my TH400 trans. There is a delay for the clutches to lock up and release. Mine may climb faster than yours but always pull the lever before the desired RPM no matter how many gears you have.
Nice job Mike, I ran my Cadillac STS last sat at the Motorplex. It was 42 Deg. An all wheel drive V6 was just about right. 14.38 ET at 97.82 MPH and traction was NO problem. I am running the Beretta this sunday baring no snow of course.

Thanks Bruce, yeah it comes up quick. My last pass i changed my shift point up to 7200 and it hit the 7800 chip before i could shift. Yes i'm old school and do it myself. Never had to be that quick with the old 477 LOL. Good luck Sunday suppose to be warm slight chance of rain over here.

Thats awesome Beast... when you get her leaned on down with a higher rpm shift she is gonna run.

i was gonna run the camaro with the 565ci This past Friday but as you might have seen the South had some really bad weather Friday with 3 tornado's touching down within the county in which i live.

i will turn my 565ci 7400.

also i got wheelie bars on this engine...i had enough of that bumper dragging crap.. sqweenching up when i let go of the button is not My idea of Fun in my older days...lol.... :D
I'll go ahead and say you will go into the high 90's once you get everything where you feel good.

Nice times there BEAST, should be in the low 9.20's easy with some tweaks and a warm sticky track, goodluck!

Since were on the subject, I'll interject:

I stuck a 7000 chip in my 496 just for the hell of it last year - slowed down or about the same - all runs.
It's now set up with a 6600 rpm shift chip (shift-noid).
It ran a 5.70 @110mph W/ 1.32 short time this past weekend at a short 1/8 mile track.
I'm almost 7800 in the traps ( too much gear 558) which might be why mine didn't react to the change.

Just curious Brian where did you shift your old 511 at?
I noticed we had the same cam and simialr set-ups.

Yeah bjuice i went with the wheelie bars this year too. I'm glad i did we chalked up the wheels laid down some good straight 40'-50' marks. Felt good. I think i'll pickup some bigger chips for the MSD today and work on my reflexes although my reaction times were good. 1st -.007 2nd .028 3rd .015. I'd take those anyday.

i thought i had a bunch of gear (5.00 w/33inch tire)..lol

i shifted the 511ci manually at the 7200 rpm range...as yiu can see in the ticket...best i ran on motor was a 5.99 @114 on gas.

On alcohol i did a wheel stand (no wheelie bars) had to peddle twice and ran a 5.98 @117 mph..it was on a high 80 pass for sure..
think this is also the pass i hurt the motor..

My car was 3004 lbs with the stock block..its now gonna be little over 3100lbs with the Big 'M'

i gotta a 4.86 gear on stand by,,also got an electric shifter this year..i am hoping for some low 70's or high 60's.

B Juice,
If you didn't have a bad day once in a while you wouldn't be able to appreciate those good days.

The big M block weighs 65 lbs more than a mark 4 or 5 block

Your looking at some decent pleminary numbers running down the track. I bet those 60 ft times can be widdled on a little. That will help put that little extra squash in the seat when you hit that throttle.

Lets see a video next time.
