View Full Version : Water wetter, does it work?

Has anybody ever used that water wetter stuff in their cooling system?

Suppose to lower temps 20 to 30 degrees, just wondering if anybody else had seen that kinda of results or is it just more snake oil.
Thought I'd ask before I drop $10 on a bottle of it.

I used to run it when I ran gas stuff, actually worked for me only about 10 degrees not 20-30

Yep, all that stuff does, is break the surface tension of water. Soap does this very nicely.

I have been told it takes the air bubbles out of the system and laundry liquid softner does the same thing?

Well, I tried it in a 2-stroke (KX250) that was getting hot on a 33mi annual poker run I used to do. The year I tried it (2003) it made a difference. All I know is that it did not over flow like w/o the water-wetter. In a race car, I do not have the expierence though. Scooter

I bought into the anti corrosion and water pump lubrication properties as well.

I run distilled water and water wetter. Don't know if it runs any cooler.

I run it in everything I own. Does it work? hmmmmm... I really dont' know. I guess I got it just in case it does. :oops:
All kidding aside we use to put it in warehouse forklifts that were running hot. It did cool them down and good bit. Probably 10-15* like other guys said.

I used "Below 40" in my mini sprints and full sprint car. Never ran a fan on the radiator, only air flow is when we were moving. Liked the way it ran the temp down. Worked quite a bit better than the "WATER WETTER". You run it with distilled water and a slight amount of anti-freeze.

Agreed. ANY coolant cooler additive is no solution for an inadequetly effective SYSTEM. It's only a 'fine tune'.

What is the Ideal water temp. I have always thought that 170 would be perfect. I've heard 160- 180- 190 & some at the track say theirs won't run good till it hits 200 But I don't know that much about this thats why I ask so many &'s. and I have learnt a lot in the last few months here. Thanks to all,

My BBC want run worth a flip until it gets at least 170+. I want run it if it's over 180. I don't mind it getting over 190 or even up to 200 when returning, but I'm not gonna start my pass at anything over 180.
My basic info Dart iron block, dart aluminum heads, CSR electric water pump.

X2...I'll leave a about 170...and if it goes above 205 returning to the pits I'll shut it down for a few minutes on the return road.

i use it in my sbc and i agree wit everyone when they say you see about a 10 degree drop at most.
My mod see anywhere from 205 to 220 dependin on the night.

Charlie, I have used it since 1967 in a 292 6 that ran on the highway but would not go in the woods without high temps and I found it helped a little , did not know why and bout 5 years ago I was told it got rid of bubbles which do not cool anything. Later J.Smith 4621 racing :D

Thx Jimmy, I put a bottel in the 69, it dropped my normal operating temp about 15 degrees, I was satisfied.

I was just curious.

That would be me, If your using water wetter you have problems and they might not be associated with cooling.

I appreciate your concern kwkracing but my car HAS ZERO COOLING ISSUES.
I just threw the question out there to see if anybody has used it before and what their results were, my racecar does not run hot, and it never has.

I guess it's kinda like using a oil additive, do you necessarly have to have a oiling problem to use some? I don't think so.

I see no difference with a cooling system, I was only trying to get an edge or use it as a preventive measure.
