I been thinking about installing a alternator kit on my racecar, it has a front and mid-plate set-up - what is the best kit to do this with?
I'm hoping to do it as cheaply as possible, maybe even fab something up myself, as I'm kind of crafty
I looked at some kits on jegs and summit and most were well over 5 bills fro everything but that's alittle out of my price range.
Any suggestions or ideas or even some photos of your set-up would be appreciated.
Thx, Charles

Hey cpex, is your car a chassis car or back half? Just wondered for room in front. On my Nova i mounted mine low on the driverside and acually mounted it to the frame since i run front and mid plates. I fabbed up two tabs one the alt pivots on the other to attach the slotted arm for adjustment and mounted it facing backwards. Was real simple. If you need pics i'll be able to get some this weekend.

I don't think it would be to hard to build a alternator bracket. I bought one like this and the first thing I thought when I opened the package was that I could have built this.
Here's the website. I think you can probably look at it and make your own.

Yeah parker i had a mount similar to that. It wouldn't clear my rack n pinion. So i made my own probably less than $5.00 in it.

Dave, I saw your alternator is mounted backwards. I feel dumb, but do they work in both directions? Is it reverse rotation? What am I missing here?

An alternator will work in either direction.
