Kinda new here, not sure if this where I should be...
66 chevelle, basiclly stock weight, whatever that is. BBC, iron heads, 561 hp at 6000, 554 ft/lb at 4500. Richmond 4 sp w/2:43 first gear, 12 bolt 4:10 with a spool. All hotchkis rear adj arms and Moroso springs 50/50 rear and 90/10's in the front. 295/65 M/T ET street radials. Just a ballpark estimate on ET?

Hotnewmach,
I am kinda new to racing too.... but I want to take a guess at it. I am going to say high 11's low 12's. My combo is of similar weight (maybe a little less) shade less HP than you, slightly lower gear, with auto & 3500 stall. Mid 11's is the best I have seen her go. Assuming you are an artist w/a 4sd, I hope you go lower & prove me wrong!! God Bless, Scooter

Without all the info it is a little hard but I will take a stab. I say if you can get off the line without spinning the hell out of the tires and keep the rpm above 2500 on the launch you should be able to get low to mid 11's. Using a four speed alot will depend on how hard you can get it to launch and how fast you can shift. If you are not good at either you could easily run high 12's or even low 13's in a car that should run 11's. When do you plan on taking it out ?

14.20ET at best, 13 anything would be better than you would expect.
My 2 cents

I thought a stock Chevelle w/ only minor tuning running on bias-ply pizza cutters having a 4sd, simiar or higher gears, in totally stock form @ several street drags, tested in several acticles, have done better than that (14.20). I think a stock COPO 1st gen. Camaro w/a 427 & 4sd with pathetic tires was at least in the high 12's having no after market parts beyond its original form. Granted it was driven to the peak of its ability & tuned the same, but his Chevelle w/ 500+ Hp, & 4:10's w/a 4spd surely would beat 14.20??? I could be wrong, but that sounds too slow. Scooter

I had a 85 chevy truck that I used to pull my car to the track that would run high 13's and it was no where near 500HP so 14.20 is a lot lower than what it should run IF like I said you can get it out of the hole and shift it right. I also had a 66 chevelle that I don't know the HP or Torque #'s but it was all steel and had a 355 with 10.5 compression 64cc heads with 202 1.60 valves stock block, crank, rods a vic jr intake,750 double pumper carb, a solid stick with 544 lift and around 308 duration, turbo 350, 488 gears with a 3000 stall and it ran low 12's on motor and 11.20's on a small shot of nitrous. I know it was no where near 550 hp except maybe on the bottle.

I would say between 11.50 - 12.0 depending on the shifts / launch...

I had a 66 chevelle years ago with almost the same deal. It had full interior and a 6 point roll bar and a fiberglass hood. I had a turbo 350 with a 3800 converter and it ran 11:56 @ 120. The main thing is to go out and have fun and be safe. Good luck let us know how you make out with it.

I agree that the car could and can be very close to 11.50 but I have also seen a lot of desk top dynoed engines down at the dairy queen that run low 9's but have never been to the track, then when they finally get there and get the 13.99 + second time slip to there shock and then decide to compare reaction times cus there car is too powerful for the track on wed night or some excuse to that order. The frustration of taking your 12 second car to the track and getting the 14 second time slip is very common. I factored in the clutch and the missed shift, tire spin and all the likely factors, and if the car runs what it could, then the owner's feet will never touch the ground because he expected a 14.20 et cus that dumb ass on the internet was way off on his guess, what an idiot. But if I expected 11.50ET and ran 13.99Et I might be frustrated and disappointed with my car no doubt. Now next time I try to give a guy some easily attainable goal like this, in the hope that he is elated to do better than predicted, please don't make me spill the beans and explane it to my journeyman race junker's
I'm just having fun guys, I hope every one gets the humor on the last part. :D

I guess I should have explained a little better. I'm new to HERE, not to racing. I'm 53 and have been down the track far too many times to count. I just was trying to get some opinions on the car with this motor setup. As for the traction, its not an issue. As for the missed shift.....I suppose it could happen, but its darn few and far between.
Thanks for the responses and sorry for the confusion.[/u]

Now that was funny!! I wondered if you were just poking some fun... thanks for the explaination!! Seriously, if my ET depended on a 4 speed, I would be blowing syncros left & right. kudos to hotnewmach if he kills the benchmark Scooter

Very first pass.....11.28 at 124. 1.49 60 ft. I drove the car 90 miles to the track, broke nothing, and drove it home. I'm happy. :D
