ok so now my truck is makin another wierd knock
but it almost sounds like the trans
it will not do it in park or neutral no matter how high it gets revved
and it only knocks when im slowing down wether it be coasting or braking
and it stops once the trans dropps to first
i looked at the trans fluid level to see and it was low so i added a half a quart of trans fluid cus it was all i had, it was till about a quart low at this point
it has a leak from the dipstick as well
please help out

bowhay....top it off and see if the noise goes away...could be a flywheel or it could be the front pump in the trans....sounds like it might be the pump....but wont know until it is topped off.

Check your torque convertor bolts.

Check your torque convertor bolts.
yup...it will sound like the mains are hammering if they are loose.
But you could have hurt the bearings with that deal you went through before.

idk
i checked the bearings when the motor was out and thats not it

bowhay this may sound crazy, but you may want to check the alternator, i had a bearing go bad in one, it sounded like all the bad stuff... wrist pin bearings etc, just something to check, good luck.

how exactly would u go about checking the alternator for that

take the belt off, or use a ( hose-a-scope) a peice garden hose from the ear aimed toward the alternator, i did both, only in reverse. :)

You can also use a long wooden handled screw driver with the metal end on the part in question and put your ear on the handle end. Works great.
I like the hose-a-scope deal. :D :D

i had a flywheel cracked that did the same thing.....almost pulled the motor but checked that first.

I've narrowed it down to something in the drive train.

Run it till it lets go, that'll remove all doubt about the problem. :P

well im pretty sure its the front pump in the trans
cus i fixed the leak and filled it up and it still makes the noise when slowing down
something else wierd though
the motor makes no noise but u can hear a small knock in the exhaust

Bowhay-
Please tell us the setup & kind of truck. There could many things that make weird noises when rolling... that you do not hear when you are still. I.E; Speedometer/cable (I had this at slow speeds on a truck once), U-Joints, rotor/caliper, etc... it will help to understand more about your vechile & what is been done to it recently.
I know this "knock" noise you hear when it is in the exhaust I think.... but that is usually not actually a knock. That is typical of a less than stellar exaust system. Get rid of the glass packs if you really want to hear the exhaust clearly. I think the knock is an illusion the glasspacks are creating at a low idle/rpm.

it is an 83 chevrolet 1/2 ton with a brand new rebuilt 385
u joints are pretty new
i drained the trans and replace the filter and all seals
and just earlier today it knock just myseriously stopped

If it is intermitent, I wonder if you are getting pre-ign from timing or bad vacumn advance... you might consider cross ign between plug wires or a simple ign issue as well that might create that knock at certain RPM.
