Looking to purchase a big block Chevy crate engine for my 66 Nova drag car with powerglide and four link. This is a big $ investment for me and do not want to pick the wrong engine builder. Your opinions please. Thanks, Mike

Looks like alot better prices compared to the "Big Boy" engine builders. Where are they located?

Nyes is good. Also check out the ads Murray has posted for kits and completely assembly. I know the guy that does the complete motors and it is excellent work ( or he would not be building mine). If you want to spend more, then Sunset out of Texas or Nesbitt out of N. Carolina are good builders to turn to.

Kansas City, MO area. Been pricing 540's. Have heard good things about Doug Herbert engines. I'm going to the Race and Performance Expo on the 14th and hope to talk to some engine builders.
We can build any combo you want with competitive prices. 864-578-5622 Brad

You will never go wrong with Reher Morrison or Sunset Racecraft. However if you are looking more local call Chad here and ask if he knows any good ones close by.

MikeC66,
I have many years of experience and now I run my own shop. I worked for the "big" name shop mentioned here in the posts and have over 150 big inch race engines in service today. I have a great resume and outstanding references. Shoot me an email on what you want and I will send you a quote ASAP. Email:

Thanks,

You should be shopping for quality and expieriance, if your shopping price with this kind of thing your going to get burned. Remenber a "crate" motor is still built by a person and only as good as its builder, regardless of parts used. Try to establish a relationship with a builder who you feel comfortable with, mass produced crate motors wont have that personal touch.

We just don't have the car where we want it yet. Had the converter tightened up. Gonna make some passes and maybe regear.

No, I was never a "driller", I left Reher-Morrison to start my own racing engine program. There must be some confusion, you do work with Mark J. at ATK right? He won't be confused when you tell him Shawn said hello. The "Dude" thing might have thrown him offa little, I haven't seen Mark in a few years.

Business is starting to pick up. We have actually brought in some clientele from Reher. We have 2 overhauls from Reher in the shop right now. Business was slow to begin with, I had to turn customers away because we were working on our dyno room and at the time getting our dyno operational was on the top of our list. We are a small shop with big capabilities, we have a dedicated Chevrolet racing engine development program as well as a chassis fabrication shop. Future plans will incorporate our top sportsman racing program that will be run out of our facility, this will enable us to test and research our own products at the race track.
