I recently bought a 01 228" S&W hardtail dragster which had a 555bbc in it and has 33-16-15 slicks and a 4:10 gear.What gear should i put in it for a sbc,1/8th. mile only.I was thinking 4:56 or 4:88,Thanks

It depends on your motor combo. I was talking to Dan Phelps this weekend. He tries 4.30's and 4.56's with his sbc combo. I believe he said 430 was the motor size. He saw little to no difference from the 4.10. From my readings, anything under 400 inch, you will want 4.56's. Anything above that you can get away 4.10 or 4.30. The sb2.2 stuff is a different story.

One of our dragsters is a SBC that runs 8.60s here and 8.20s in Dallas. We're running 4.56 gear seems to work great. If you run 4.30 gear with your SBC you will need to run a 1.80 plantery.

Ive still got the 1.76 gearset in trans. For 1/8th mile and that tall of tire think a 4:88 would be better? My Malibu with a 4:86 went through the 1/8th at 6600 ,5:29 gear it went through at 7000.

My car was set up for 1/8 mile when I got it and had a very similar motor to yours. My car had a 4.86 gear in it.

If your going 1/8th only that would be my sugestion, but when I went to the 1/4 mile track I hit the 7200 chip at about 850 foot. Still coasted through to a 8.96 @ 101 mph....lol

That car looks like it was being purpose built with all the x-bracing. My guess, that car hit a sand trap somewhere. There appears to be a lot of front missing to that car. I bet that was 250-275 wheelbase originally.

I think it was just someone trying to build a dragster but not knowing anything about it. Look at the bars going up to the back of the cage, they never angle up. And the bars in front of the cage never taper in. Someone put alot of time in for nothing. Hey but the high bid is only at $260.00 right now.

Someone was pretty close to some advanced ET requirements then. The double bar running behind the seat and all the x braces in the footbox area appear to be right. What I don't understand is the square tube behind the shoulder hoop, unless is it part of the jig that was being used. The cage angle may be an issue but Diamond Racecars lay their bars back lack that. I am going to send a message to the seller to get some history on the car. You got me curious now. 8)

Looks like it would make a good sand dragster or mud dragster. :?
