I'M WANTING TO PUT A GM 5-SPEED IN MY 1957 CHEVY.I HAVE BUCKET SEATS SO NO SHIFTER INTERFERENCE.I SEEN A S-10 TRANS THAT WAS TOLD WILL WORK BUT ALSO A CAMARO-FIREBIRD 305 5 SPEED IS A BETTER CHOICE.WHAT MODS WILL I NEED TO MAKE TO TRANS IF ANY.I CURRENTLY HAVE A 3 SPEED,WAS 4 SPEED BUT IT DIED A HORRIBLE DEATH.I KNOW I WILL HAVE TO CHANGE THE CLUTCH DISC TO THE FINE SPLINE.ALSO I HAVE THE ORIGNAL BELL HOUSING.ANY INFO TO MAKE THIS SWAP EASIER WILL BE GRATEFUL.THANKS RICKEY

GM 5 speed is the way to go, the shifter is out the top so you don't need any room for levers. Also the hydraulic clutch keeps you from having to work around the clutch equalizer and rods. One problem is the shifter lever is a little short for a older car with a high bench seat. You can order clutches and discs for later model sbc. You'll love the 5th gear it will be the best gas mileage that car will ever get.
