I was under car tonight slidding the dynomax mufflers over the collectors...had a 2x4 and a short handle 9lb sledge hammer to drive the mufflers on down the extra inch on the collectors

i was holding the 2x4 with my left hand..for some reason i took my attention away from my swing and caught my left index finger with the 9 lb hammer gainst the 2x4 while pressed against the end of the muffler..

daaaaaayyyyyummmmmmmmm....my freaking butt cheeks ate up my fruit of the looms...    .....MAN THAT HURT. !

gonna have to say 100 hail marys after the words i let out after that one
and i AINT CATHOLIC !...

I now have a blue finger nail with a blood blister coming out the end of my finger nail.. :P :P :P

I guess it could have been worse..i could have been up north and it being 17 degree's or some crazy temp like that....

anyone had one of those DANG IT ^&&((*&^%$# MOMENTS LATELY ?

hey, i was welding on a rock hammer last tuesday, tired and ready to go home, when i accidentally hit my self with the flat end of the welding-chipping hammer in the side of the face. I feel your pain and then some.

Get out your 1/16" drill bit and drill a pressure relief hole in that nail ! WARNING; the THOUGHT of do it is actually worse than the actual activity OF doing it. INSTANT relief !

I would use a smaller bit than a 1/16. If you can get the sharpest, smallest bit you can and DO NOT use a power drill to do it. Twirl it between your thumb and index finger. I had a guy tell me to drill a hole in my fingernail after I smashed it like that. When it was still throbbing the next day I figured I'd give it a shot. The relief was instant, took the pressure off.

Been there done that.

Me and hammers don't get along either, but I never claimed to be a "hammer" mechanic :P

I can't swing a hammer for shit, and I'll be the first to admit that

Now drill that fingernail Brian, just turn a real small bit with your fingers back and forth with your good hand,DON"T use a drill motor,I've seen dumb yankees drill a hole through their fingers :P

Oh yeah and watch out for the blood pressure under the nail when that lets go,you'll think your in heaven :P

Whatever size you use, make sure it's sharp !

I was in a severe bind once with an abscessed tooth and drug out a pair of ViseGrips. Broke the tooth all apart before I could get it all yanked out. Passed out a couple of times and it still hurt like hell but at least it was a different TYPE of hurt :?

I'll tell you what is better than a drill bit, go to the feed store and get a removeable needle for a syringe you would use on cattle. It is super sharp on the end and will drill right through your nail with very little effort. I like them because I have more control and use less pressure.

If you can't fix it with a hammer you have an electrical problem.

Words of wisdom from someone on here( read it in their signature.)

Awhile back I was working up under the dash of my car...all tangled up in the cage in an awkward position where I couldn't move..we all been there..anyway I had been using a ARO angle grinder..the small ones that take the 1.25 inch rolac disc or some size there abouts..well, I had taken that litle spring loaded thing off because it was annoying( the safety flipper thing that keeps the thing from runing if you lay it down on the trigger) well I was all twisted up under there and the grinder was in the floor still hooked to the air hose..I was wearing fairly new Nike tennis shoes that were not leather..running shoes I guess you call em..anyway I somehow kicked the sander and it rolled over onto the trigger flapper and took off spining 8 million miles per hour...with the sanding disc against the side of my foot. ..I heard it and felt it cuting at my shoe but I couldn';t hardly move cause of how I was laying under the dash...I started thrashing around and by the time I got out a 70 dollar pair of shoes had the whole side cut out of one and my foot was missing a big chunk of skin.

Whenever I smash a finger like that I uysually run around in circles Like a little kid...that or hop up and down..lol

Another classic reaction I am guilty of...

Accidentally bang your head on something..get mad and punch whatever it was you clunked your head on...so now not only do you have a sore head but you also get sore knuckles.

Brilliant.

I swear this is true and accurate... my nic-name at work is now "Scooter" this story took place only 3 days after having a Visectomy 2 years ago:

I bought my son a 2 stroke gas scooter that you stand up on (he is 6). My friend bought one for his duagther who is 5. We decided to ride them one night because our kids were a little too young for a scooter yet. It was dark on a fall night. We fired them up at my house & headed out in the neighborhood with no helmets & no lights (I know, I know not good). We rode to main city street that was busy on the side walk going the wrong way... we both saw a cop comming our way with a complete look of disgust through his windshield as he hit the brakes & started to make a 180... we ran!!! (I am 38 & I swear I am more responsible than this, but we just ran). We doubled back into a neighborhood through as series of alleys & through apt. complexes & came out on a street near my house narrowly escaping getting caught. Going home wide open, I was cruzing down a side walk & the kick-stand caught a concrete lawn border (got too close) & I went flying through the air onto the concrete sidewalk & broke BOTH of my arms & one wrist!!! multiple fractures!!! one cast on each arm. Going "#2" was a whole new expierence when it came to wiping. had those casts on for a month & a half!!! I was the worst time ever... I could not drive for awhile too. Most embarrassing/painful event of my lifetime.

You can imagine the CRAP I caught from my wife, my co-workers, family... so now I am "scooter".... I figured you all know me good enough now on this site that I could tell you my story of epic failure to disregard every law & basic responsoibility. Getting caught by the cop would have been WAAAAYYYYY better. Rigsby.

well ill chime in on this one.one day while welding up a set of dualls on a customers pick up i felt a "hot" spot on my left arm! well i fliped up my helmet and saw that my shirt was just a blazing away but just in a small spot. so i thought[ thats scarry] ill just fold up my arm to put out the fire due to my right hand was holding the welding end of my mig .needless to say when i fold my left arm up i have matching scars that not only look "cool" but also the line up with each other!!! next time ill just put out the fire with the other hand!!!

This isn't race car related but probably the most humiliating moment of my life happened when I was a freshman in High school. Our wrestling coach aranged for us to have access to the school swimming pool(indoor pool) for a night at the end of the season...well they had the swim coach there along with a classmate of ours ( female, cheerleader, swimmer, hot, good looking..you get the idea) anyway she was there as a life guard..well we were trying to get her wet when we jumped off the diving board..nobody could do it. She was standing close to the edge of the pool but it was too far for the splash to get her...so I jumped off and then swam over to the edge right next to her and climbed out of the pool and started to head back to the diving board line...I walked two steps past her then turned real quick and did a "canonball" right in front of her so I could splash her...well my aim wasn't so good and I misjudged the distance and the back of my head smashed into the edge of the pool ...knocking me completely unconcious, leaving me floating in the pool with the back of my head cut open. ....she had to jump in the water and rescue me. :o

So I DID get her wet, but I didn't get to look at her cause they took me to the Emergency room to get stitches. :?

This pool was on the second floor of our High School and sounds echoed pretty bad...well I was told that it made quite a loud boom and echo when I did it. All I remember is jumping and then coming too with her in the water and the coaches pulling me up out of the pool....Oh yeah and all my friends laughing their asses off at me. I heard about that one forever.

Man Tod, that SUX. I bet if you shave your head, you still have the scar to prove it. Anyways, there are some great stories on this thread... I really had to think long & hard before I told you guys the "Scooter" story, but hell... we all have things happen (just maybe not quite that severe) & it was a BLUNDER I will get crap for the rest of my life... it is funny looking back.

Do you guys really think I should change my RJ handle to Scooter?? It seems appropriate I guess....

Bjiuce & friends,

After trying several versions of "Scooter", I was denied several times on several versions. Having said this, I was tenatious & unwilling to give the whole idea up. I believe the whole event still warranted the title so, I settled for the new name of "Scooterz" ... that is the new perminent RJ handle.

In case you are wondering.... I do still have the 49CC "Go-Ped" 2 stroke Scooter which now has a new expansion chamber/ pipe. It will go 37MPH & is properly jetted for the new improved power band & pipe. If in the power band, you can pull a wheelie. Scooter

This is not a stupid story, but just a piece of advice that ya'll probably already know/learned: when welding lying down, regardless of wearing a full coverage helmet or not, wear earplugs. They are a pain in the neck, but not near as bad as the pain of a hot spark going down in your ear. REALLY sux to just have to sit there and wait for the sizzling to stop that is coming fron INSIDE YOUR HEAD!!!! ow :(

use a lil grease/or spray lube on the mufflers to slip them on it will burn off
but they will slide on so much easier

Actually i did better then this..i wiped Anti-seize on the outside collector ( might want to take them off one day)...reason they were so tight is the collectors had been thermal coated making the OD a little larger then un-coated.

Grease would have worked pretty good going on,,,but not much help when you want them off after running them for a season.
