I have a 68 GMC p/u, 565 bbc 1000 hp and Abruzzi pro glide 180 gears ect. Truck weighs 3300 wet and has 10 passes since build.
Last time out it did something I cant figure out , I drove thru the water box stopped started my burnout in 1st shifted to 2nd as she began to move and the tires stopped spinning. It didnt feel like it was free spinning but I could tell something was up, I pulled to the line staged and left off the brake at 3000 rpm. All went normal as far as I could tell pulled hard all the way and shifted fine, I ran my best time so far.
I know something isnt right and before I pull the pan I was hoping you guys could tell me what to look for.
Thanks

Keith could be a few things other then trans also.
Marco is always very good to customers, heck he is good to non customers also. I've had this happen to me before though, clutches were wasted in mine, fluid got so hot and thin the trans was slipping. If you see any metal/trash you'll need to really dig into it.

Maybe I missed something in the post??? What was the problem?
Tires stopped spinning after burnout but sounded like it was still spinning??? Maybe you accidently shifted it into neutral?
I have a Abruzi racing powerglide in my car and I love it, no problems what so ever, and talk about great customer service they are the best!
If it were me I'd just pull the pan and do a looky loo. You'll see some clutch dust and thrust bearing material but it should be minimal but if its looks like your panning for gold and you hit the jack pot, do some investigative surgery.

It feels like it is still under a load when tires stop spinning and it stops moving also, engine is still at about 5500- 6000 rpm and tires are not moving, seemed normal down the track shifted pulled hard , then again its only been down the track 10 times so maybe 2nd isnt pulling as hard as I think.
Just to be clear I am in no way saying anything disrespectful towards Abruzzi trans or Marco , just added the fact I have one of his to show it is a probuilt piece.
Matter of fact if anything is wrong with the trans I attribute all damage to my being way green and might be doing a no no off the line or in the burnout box.
Anyway I pulled the pan today and the fluid was a little dark but not to much, smelled like new and there is a very small amount of metal in the bottom of pan. I pulled the trans and I plan on taking it to a local guy for a check up. Hopfully he will be able to enlighten me on the problem and what caused it.
Also what blows my mind is after it did this the first time I went from 7.00's to 6.60's but my MPH was down ???
Hell I may not have a problem, like I said before I am fairly new to racing but I am learning as fast as I can.
Thanks
Keith

hang on, this truck can not weight 3300lbs and run a 6.60 in the 1/4 with 1000 hp and it better not be running a 6.60 in the 1/8 mile with a 1000hp. Just wondering , And what is the mph? Did you adjust the band on the glide before?

I agree if its 1000hp and running 6.60's something else is wrong.
Whats the 60ft and 300ft times, maybe a sprag has went out in the converter ?

Just a thought here, since your new to this.
Sometimes when you do a heavy burnout and you really get it wound up in high gear and then you try to power out of the burn-out ( I.E>let off linelock) it will feel like it is on ice and will not hardly move, just let off the gas or feather it till the tires stop spinning then she'll bite and you go ahead and power out of the burnout.

I pulled the time slips and I will try to put them in order, remember green driver and a track that isnt all it could be also I found that I only went 660s once but hey your always proud of your fastest.
Motor dynoed 1011 at 7400 I believe ( might have rpm wrong but hp is correct) and had truck scaled by friend with me inside 3300 .
I was leaving on the first 3 by foot (trans button messed up) last few at 3000 rpm.
Anyway let me know what you guys think, I know theres more in her but am I close ?

Very posible to be convertor. Had this same thing happen on my friends truck last weekend. Tires actually stopped when he launched, but the motor didn't over rev. When trans was opened it looked good, but a fin was broken in convertor which caused some other damage in it. Both were 4 years old and needed freshening anyway.

Converter is a Neil Chance 5800 and it has only the passes above, Hope its not the problem.

You have a problem somewhere, either converter is broke (my guess is sprag) or the dyno you used is about 200hp off.
@ 3300lb a 1000hp motor should run at worst 6.0's if all else is correct.
A good friend of mine has a 1025hp motor in his 3200lb 55 chevy it runs 5.8's all day.
Tell us more about your setup maybe we can figure something else out.

What are the specs on the motor?

You didn't say what gear you're running, but the 60' times are way off, don't know if you're spinning or the converter is bad, but MPH doesn't look bad for the 6.60 et.
I can only go as an example. We have a 3700lb Biscyne, with M/T street slicks, and a pump gas 468" motor. The last time out in street trim, minus mufflers, it went 6.87 @ 99mph and 10.88 @ 120mph. Best 60' was 1.447 worse was 1.513. Thats with 4.56 gears and turbo 400 leaving at 4200 on the trans brake with a 5500 converter. I don't believe the motor has much more than 600HP, the cam is only .668/.674 lift and the comp. is 9.7.
I'm thinking also that you have converter problem unless it's struggling off the line.

Ok I dug up my paper work on the engine and is as follows
Steve Schmidt 565 it is what they call their sniper 567
Profiler heads, Dart block , 14.8 comp, Comp roller .822 I-.799 E
Added vac pump .
According to their dyno it made 1011.0 hp at 7300 and 797.3 torq at 5900
Truck has ladder bar suspension with coil overs, Moser Fab 9 rear with 4.30 Pro gears.
Track is far from great but it didnt seem too bad, truck went straight as an arrow and I dont know if it makes any diff but I was late on the light most of the time.

Well if its a 1000hp Schmidt motor I was off on guess 6.0's should be a 5.8's ride for sure.
Converter must be out in left field or you have timing wayyy off or other issues here. I am leaning towards converter your 60ft is terrible slow.
Dont think we are ripping on your ride, just you have one heck of a motor that should be a lot faster. With some help you'll be a lot happier with it. My first guess would be to call Neil & Chance, or go out and stall it to see what it actually stalls. I still think it has a broken sprag. Wish I had a converter that would work for you it'd be on its way to try.
what timing are you running, have you pulled all the plugs to make sure they look good ?

First of all i wanted to say what David said, we're not in any way bashing your truck. You do have everything to go much faster. i would make sure the timing is set 34/36 degrees. I still think it's a converter issue. I too think the truck should run 5.50/5.80. The ladder bars are not your problem and the 4.30 gear is about right for the HP. The pics i've posted below are of a 1951 ford truck with the original frame and ladder bars, it's all steel except hood with the original glass. It does have a strut front end. It has a 572" on gas no nitrous and a PG with 4.30 gears. It weighs 3,000lbs plus, he's a good friend of mine so i'm familar with the truck. The last time out at Twin Cities La. (local track) he ran 5.39@127 carrying the wheels 200 ft.
By the way i love that track you were at , it's the kind of track i grew up running many yrs. ago, kinda country and narrow. If you go back this weekend try the trans brake if you get it fixed, try somewhere between 3600/4200 with it. That may show you a lot about the converter.

Hey David, he's raced that truck since 1969. He bought it from another friend of mine's dad and we have pics. of him and his sister setting on the rear slicks when he was 8 yrs. old The truck used to be street driven and raced on sat. nite until Gerald bought it in 1969. I forgot to add it's on gas not alcohol and i've never seen him take the hood off at the track. Gerald is 64 yrs. old.

Ok I took Trans out and dropped it at the Glide doctor, He said there is nothing that He could see straight out broke or damaged. He told me to check my shifter adjustment as it sounds to him like its over throwing high gear.
My shifter is an older one i had and i only used it because it has a net. safety switch in it.
You guys think this might be an issue?
Thanks KW
Also knock my ride all you want, I know you guys wanna help and sometimes you gotta really dig to find the fix..

are you hooking off the line??? From that video it seems like you aren't. Then it catches the motor bogs for a split second. Then starts to pull. If your spinning past the 60' then catches and bogs it's not a drivetrain issue you need to work that chasis issue out .. But nice truck man

In your video it sounds like your feathering the throttle out of the hole. I can hear you lift and get back in it. That will defiantly kill your 60ft and et. Looks like your foot braking also. 60ft times will be slower than using a transbrake. I think when you hit high gear in the burnout your motor is at 5000 and the tires aren't spinning because your in the stall of your torke converter. Bring your rpms up to 6500 in the burnout and I think that may fix your problem.
