Hey guys its that time of the year, time to freshen motor up. I will be doing some calling/shopping around more this year being I have a bit more time then normal to get it done.

What do you guys pay/think is a fair price for the following.

DISSASSEMBLE AND CLEAN
DO A VALVE JOB
HONE BLOCK
INSTALL NEW BEARINGS, RINGS ALL GASKETS, TIMING SET,
LIFTERS
SPRINGS
REASSEMBLE AND DYNO TEST

Just a thought..if your compression check is good why go thru all the above.

If i were you i would change out springs/retainers/keepers, check the valves themselves.change out lifters
drop pan and take a peek at your bearings.if they look good then roll with it...

Do it yourself free labor
all for say $600.00 or under ?

this is only my opinion David..9x's out of 10 if something goes wrong its in the above stuff i mentioned anyway

i would try it anyway..you can always go back and spend money anytime you like.. 8)

Brian thanks for the input I always take everything in and ponder what I need to do. I do the freshen up thing yearly now because i dont want to chance the high $$ motor, guess its cheap insurance. I have 250 + passes on the motor this year, some with nitrous. paranoid I suppose

hey thats good to..don't blame you either way..

you do put more passes on a car then most...with alcohol also.....

Nye's not helping you out a little w/fresh up price ? if not they should be with all the business you give them and advertising.

IMO

well you'd think they would huh

I wouldnt even be shopping around but they are more then busy at the moment. May still take it to them and wait but just want to shop around a bit, never know untill I look I suppose. I gave up on doing my own when I went to big blocks a few years ago before that we always did them. Figured this HP and pricey stuff be a good idea to start letting someone else do them for me.

I've now priced 4 "bigger" motor shops here locally

A- $2500-2800 for everything
B- $1500 to do short block only
C. 3500
D.3800

Needless to say I started pulling it apart tonight, how can people get this much to do a freshen up for a motor. You can buy parts decently priced
Rings- $200.00
Bearings- 200
Lifters 285
Springs-275
Replacement Chain- $45.00
Gaskets- 125.00

So checking it all, hone, assembly, valve job, degree cam, and dyno cost
anywhere from 1200 to 2500

Eagle with L19, 250 thats a average year for me.

Shift it at 7000 or 7200 depends on where I am, finish line is 7000.

They went upto 304.00 but I have found them through a different dealer for 275.00, if you are looking for the extra oiling holes and something rebuildable you need the pro series which is more money.
