View Full Version : RACING JUNK going down the tubes!!!

I have been a member of RJ almost from its inception and I am amazed how the philosophy has changed and it seems to be driven by the all mighty buck. When the site started it was for racers to use to sell unneeded parts, to other racers. It has evolved into a site where I have to go through page after page of VENDORS ADS for trailers, transmissions. engines etc., to find an ad actually posted by another racer. Then there are the real estate ads, electronic ads and ads for services which are not, SUPPOSED TO BE, allowed on this site. These ads should be stopped by RJ and they should not be relying on us to report them. Theere should be a vendors special section, totally separate from the racers section. If I need a new part, I would be happy to go there and shop, but I am more interested in what the actual racers are selling. I hope this rings a bell with RJ and other members and maybe we could get the site back to what it was originally built to do. Chuck!

I am new here, and I already think the way the ads are listed sucks!! I put my ad on (personal seller) and within minutes it is OFF the "most recent" ads because the DEALERS feel it is necessary to install 40 or 50 ads for motor homes, torque convertors, carbs, etc.
Why can't RJ seperate the two? Personal sellers in one area, dealers in another. :?

Yes I totally agree I too get frustrated when I'm looking for used parts and cars. Dealers and Vendors should have their own place to list their adds on this sight. Don't get me wrong everyone has stuff to sell but used stuff and new stuff should be separate. RacingJunk should be for the racers after all....who keeps Racingjunk going, its us!!!!

That's the bad part about it.Alot of us racers are too cheap to pay their "honor" payment, whereas the dealers are paying big bucks for all those ads and refreshing.I agree that it has changed and I am pretty new here, too.Fact is,the dealers are their bread and butter now,not us.To any high ups at RJ,don't get me wrong,I like the site and really enjoy the forum and thank you for it.But the dealers do seem to have pretty much taken over.Oh well, change is good, right?

A glitch. Thank you guys for posting this in the Forums section, this thread prompted me to to look into certain accounts and sure enough I was able to find a glitch when it comes to dealers re-posting ads. Our system will allow some certain dealers, based off of level, the ability to re-post ads, but only when the ads expire, giving some break in the complete domination of ad re-posting. This glitch was allowing dealers to re-post ads at any given time without using their value points or paying for that upgrade. I have our tech team looking to close this loop-hole right now, so in the future you should notice this practice being slowed down, because now it will make the dealers pay for this service if they want to do this.
Currently dealers only make up 10% of all the active ads posted on RJ but as you are aware with this glitch, all 10% at the top can be frustrating, hopefully this will stop that displacement of position.
We are looking to add sort functions (like price and location and days left) so this will allow you to rearrange the sorting order to your liking.
We appreciate all our members and certainly appreciate your patience when it comes to problems with the site. Keep the comments coming as we try to continue to bring you the best in what a Racing Motorsports Marketplace can provide to you.
As a gift for helping us with this, I have added $50.00 in Value Points to each account that had a comment posted prior to this one, so that you may re-post your ad(s) without having to pay for it either. Thank you for helping. We are listening to our members.

How can you not want to post here when you know that you get this kind of service for your money.
PJ, is there anyway that once an item is marked sold that it automatically is removed from the ad listings? I know with recent changes, free accounts cannot delete ads so they mark them sold and repost an ad over top of it. The boards are getting very cluttered. It would also make sense to allow 1 or 2 ad max in a 24 hour period for the same category to help reduce all the duplicate ads. Just a thought.
Has anyone else noticed how slow the uploading of pictures and videos has been? Ive spent a half hour just trying to do so for just 2 adds. And sometimes when they are (uploaded) it takes me back to the start posting page. UGH! I know its not my PC or internet connection. Just wondering if im the only one. Later

Certainly this is not the place to get into someones account and discuss issues. I did notice this post today and immediately investigated the issue. I do see on 2008-09-02 11:33:02 our log files show "Changed value_points from '0' to '5000'

I'm not sure why that happened to you but we certainly didn't mean to snub anyone and we appreciate your status with us, no matter what account type you have. We never send anyone a bill for another year, we just send out an email that your account has expired and all the benefits of Club Membership if you were to join back up again.
Our goal is to help you get in contact with other people that have the same passion and interests as yourself so that you may buy or sell an item that you are interested in. We are just happy that you turn to us to use the site and would make sure that any experience that you have with us is the best one that we can deliver for you.
Enjoy the Value Points, we apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you, and we urge everyone that may have an issue with their account, to contact us directly at the

No re-upping for me either! I am fed up with all the commercial ads burying my lil ole personal ads EVERY time I post!! I do not understand why they can't seperate the sellers from the personal sales ads, and hold accountable the folks that violate the seperation. Look at todays most recent ads. Why do they need to post EVERY damn trailer they have?
PJ, you really need to save this site from self destruction. Is it time for change in your front office? Maybe some fresh, young blood with technology savvy! If there is difficulty in firing someone that isn't performing, let me know. I will sign a five minute contract with RJ, send them packing and then you can get the new guy rolling on the software.
You better hurry, the site sure is pissing off lots of folks.

Once Again,just my OPINION!!!

I certainly understand the frustration in the business ads issue. Currently Business accounts make up of only 10% of total ads posted, 90% of the ads are by individuals. But when a dealer posts 50 at a time (which some can do) it does bring other items down. Just like when you do to their ads when you post after them.
The site has not changed, when you say go back to what it was, its difficult to do that because this is the way it was, just not many users were using it. We have grown and people realize that advertising on our site can work for them, so now you see it more, but it was always there.
We cannot separate them from the listings, just like we would not do that to you, even if it was requested by many to isolate your postings, BUT having said that, I have asked our tech team to allow for better sorting on all pages, and this is what is in the works,
Sort by:
Time: Oldest Postings
Time: Newest Postings
Price: lowest first
Price: highest first
Price: No Price listed
Distance: Nearest first
Distance: Farthest first
Account Type: Club Members first
Account Type: Basic Members first
Account Type: Dealers first
Ad Type: Featured Ads first
Ad Type: Premiere Ads first
Ad Type: Ads with images first
Category
This type of sorting will allow you to modify the listings to pull certain things ahead of others.
We hope this improvement helps the people who are interested in using this kind of service. Remember that this site was designed from input from users like yourself and will continue to be changed and modified in that way.
Our customers really do come first, all customers.

How about restricting the number of consecutive items listed at the same instant to 5 in a 24 hour period ? With only 10% of members listing 90% of the items for sale it leaves the 'little' guy out in the breeze. How about building a site,( RJ2 ), specifically for mass listers and leave ( RJ1 ) for the 'little' guys. I completely understand the business reason for accepting ALL listers but.....
There IS an alternative place specifically for the 'little' guy with just a couple of items to sell.

PJ,
You certainly have the knack for making people have more thought about a subject. After reading your latest post about the changes RJ is going to attempt to make to the listings, I am sold on your commitment to making this a better site. I have no doubt that with growth comes pain. I will not gripe about the ad section again until it is time to re-up (about 6 months), I of course will re-up. I can't pay $49 ANYWHERE, and have the resources that come along with the site. I.E., Tom,Zip,Ed,doorracer, hammertime,Ron and the list goes on and on and on. I have met many nice folks on here, again, included in the $49 bucks.

I can feel your frustration for sure i am a dealer and i know how you guy's feel most of the time when i re post my ad's within a short period of time mine will also be 10 to 20 pages back to i dont re post as much as i use to and i do try to use my points and i thanks RJ for giving them to us.
I also have been a member for a few years now and i do love this place and feel like i have made a lot of friends here .
Im trying to learn to be patient with the growing curves of the site because it is growing quickly i have problems getting pic's to upload and some times i get kicked of while uploading (dont know if me or RJ) dont know a lot about computers myself .
A lot of my friends are members also and they dont like all the ad's ethier a few have called me and said i just posted right after they did and it dropped them back a page i dont know the solution but i will be here as long as i can .
Sorry if i have do that to any of you guy's it was not intentional i promise.

Well they have made some changes but i think it is worse than before now you have to go to each section to look for your parts the new and used are still mixed together personal and dealers are still together and not under drag racing all separate i hope most of the people here like the way it is now me i hate it but that's just me .
I now have started thinking of pulling my account this system i dont think is the cure for the problem some was talking about .
I know we all hate to post things for sale and within a few hours it be 10 pages back but you could go to drag racing and scan thru and see what had been posted now it will take twice as long and each category to just look at what as been posted that day.
Well good luck with this set up but i dont think i will stay as a dealer like this and for the cost of being one we will see how sells go on the new system.
I agree with Drivingmiss. I think there should be a seperate website for commercial sellers, let the big businesses compete with each other somewhere else and let Racingjunk be the open market for private listings. After all the little guy is how it all got started! Just my 2 cents

Logged on to check out the latest ads, what do I find? RJ themselves are now clogging up the "most recent" section, (25 of their ads in the first two pages) pushing the little guys ads right on out of the first four pages. I hate to be a dick, but why does it have to be like this? 5 million trailers from the SAME company, hey, we get it trailer companies, you sell trailers!! I don't understand, we bitch about this being done, then RJ themselves feel the need to do it. Well, I think it sucks, I agree with Ron, I may have to use another avenue. Someone wants my yearly dues and honor payments. By RJ doing this, it makes me feel like they aren't listening to the complaints.
I hope my thoughts trigger someone elses thoughts! Hint, hint...RJ!

I've been running ads on some brand New items I had in the shop, about 10 items all at 20-30% lower than Mail Order Prices.
So far i've had 2 hits, one guy negotiated a little more discount and then welched on the deal.
The other guy called and wanted free freight I gave it to him and he disappeared.
With over 300 views only 3 Emails I'm losing faith in the value of this Site and it's ability to sell anything. If your members are are looking for stuff at 20 cents on the dollar I guess I'm at the wrong place.
I'm going to keep posting top quality, new product at firesale pricing for another week or so but if this overstock doesn't start moving I am.

Most people I know stopped looking here totally.

......Ummmm both PJ and Tom both addressed this in the first page of the thread
Certainly it was addressed. But I fail to see any action. Big difference in addressing and curing/fixing the issue. Just my humble opinion.
First off I just want to say thank you for your feedback on many of the issues that are on the site.
I have been reading this and I just needed to get a few things addressed before I was able to respond in an correct manner. I like to get all the facts in place before I look like a (well, you know)
First off - Dealers and the postings, yes we know the process of addressing and curing are two different things, but we can't have the first without the second, and we sometimes have to make many internal decisions that have led from a many internal discussions on the subject. So having said that, the programmers are working on a system that will be able to sort ads the way you like them. (It just takes some time, depends on how big the task is and to make sure all the kinks are worked out, and what's already in the pipeline to get accomplished.) CURRENTLY we are not going to isolate anyone's ads, just give you better tools to see things the way you want. We would not separate your ads, and just like Craig's list and Ebay, they are not going to take ads off their site for you either, give you better tools, yes, and that's what we will be doing too. The sales platform is equal no matter how big or small you are. The ads are posted and then listed, if you happen to list an item after a dealer puts up his, then you are ahead of theirs, yes I know 50 at a time can be a bit much, but better sorting will certainly help people find exactly what's out there from the person that they want to buy from.
Second - RJ's store mishap this week. I have talked to the person in charge of the store items and let her know what she did, when she posted items in the store. We apologize for this and it should not happen again, this person just did not know. Our mistake and we have taken measures so it does not happen again. Sorry.
Third - The person in here with the issue of the service ads, we have always removed service ads, if they were on there in the past and we did not remove it, I guess we just didn't catch it. We are sorry, we do not allow services, the site is for products only. We have banner advertising for services.
I have to ask, does the title to this post get more people to look at it. :) And in the immortal words of George Carlin "Where are these tubes people are always going down?"

Racing Junk is the TOP DOG for all the features this site offers....as far as the racing arena (community) RACING JUNK IS IN A CLASS ALL BY ITSELF !..there are none other comparable for us gear heads that relates to our hobbies and lifestyles (racing)
I been around for a long time.....and been on Racing junk since 2003 and bottom line you are not gonna please all the people all the time but in racing junks case MAJORITY of the people are pleased almost always..the sites activity speaks for itself.
for the record i DO NOT believe the origination of this post ( 1 post and out) doesn't even come close to how the Majority feels about Racing Junk as a whole...Majority is well pleased..the growth of this site proves my opinion
What makes a company better and better are those in charge that constantlty strive to make things better...and being on this site since 2003 you have done exactley that..
i see the things some have complained about but its small in the grand scheme of things and by you (pj) responding makes it even smaller in my opinion
