Hi,

I just bought this Nova and I am trying to guess whether it will certify to 7.50 or 8.50... The welds look really good and it is very solid. I am going to have the cert guy come out and do it before I sink some more money in it.

What do you think???

Funny car cage is 7.50 cant tell you the rest of the bars that are needed though ?

Looks like the cage was built for something else though.

Yeah I am thinkin a 3rd or 4th gen camaro. I have one of each of them at home and I am going to measure those.

I might put a Trans Am body on it. Im not sure yet. I realy just bought the chassis and it happened to have a nova body on it.

That will not be able to certify down to 7.50. A few things that I can see quickly are that it doesn't have the side kidney bar, diagonals in the floor, rear bracing from the rear crossbar to the crossmember for the lower part of the funny car cage, and there are not enough bars in the funny car cage.

I see, but hopefully 8.50 if the bars and welds are good...

I could live with 8.50, I am just gonna no / box foot brake race this car..

Thank you for your input.

Looks like 8.50 I think youll need some x bracing on the floor on both sides to go 7.50.

Doesn't it also have to be Tig Welded for a 7.50?

Mig welding is certifiable to 7.50 if the tubing is mild steel, cromoly must be tig welded, to certify in any catagory.

I have a 56' Chevy thats mild steel and mig welded. I wonder if I can just add some bars to certify it for a 7.50? Do you know if there is a web sight that shows exactly where the bars are located for a 7.50 certification? Or how would I find this out? Thanks

Your best bet would be to call a Nhra Tech Director or a good chassis shop you may know to get some info.

Gentlemen,
You can get all the cert specs from S.E.M.A. S.F.I. Do a search.
They are arround $35-$40 bucks for the prints.

Thanks for the info. I'll check into it. But you would think that this information would be on NHRA and IHRA web sights for everyone's viewing.
