Bought ad # 1260395 from Robert George in Melbourne, FL. His ad reads coolest truck on the planet. In this ad he states the paint is not perfect but darn close. He recomended to me to have the truck sent to me on an enclosed carrier because it was soooo nice. The truck arrived 8-12-08 and was I ever shocked. There isn't a square foot of surface on the body that isn't flawed in some way. He claims to have won an Editors Choice and Peoples Choice Award with the paint and body in the condition I received it in. First mistake I made was not going to see it before I sent him the money- I totally blame me for that mistake. Oh yea, a small oversight on his part was not telling me that the passenger front tire is up under the fenderwell about 3-4" further than the drivers side. Wonder if ole Bob just simply forgot to tell me this or if it was because I couldn't get away to come look at it? He claims this is a difference of his opinion of the looks of the truck and mine. Seven or eight people has come over and looked at the truck and all have the same opinion of the paint and body work as me, IT IS A P.O.S.

Why in the world would anyone make a major purchase without going to look at the vehicle in person ? And then come on these boards waa waa'ing about it ! I don't care how nice someone comes across on the phone or in messages, spend the money and time and go look at the vehicle in person. And don't use a friend that lives in the area either. Everyone's tastes are different. You believed in someones integrity, and got screwed. Live with it.

I'm sorry you got something you didn't want but when it comes to paint and body work, what some call "straight" and "slick" or what have you, I call Doo Doo because I've done that type of work most of my life and I am very very particular...many people are not as hard to please as I am...so MAYBE,( and that is a big maybe) to him the thing is a jem, but to you it's a turd. ..maybe he thinks it is darn close to perfect... Post pics of the truck here if ya can, I would sorta like to see them. Maybe he did win a peoples choice award..that don't mean squat. That just means he was the best there that day...like a slightly chubby girl that is average looking might not be so attractive standing in a bunch of cheerleaders...put her in a group of behemoths that have as much facial hair as you do and she starts to look PRETTY GOOD.

It comes down to emotions... we paint a great piture of how great the vechile is in our head... while the seller is also helping us build that vision at the same time. Emotions take over, it becomes urgent & we don't want to miss out on it!! In the buyers mind he has already bought this vechile. The rational side of our mind say: "you better go & see it" "something sounds too good to be true" etc.... then the vechile arrives.... YOU JUST GOT PUNK'D. My father tought this to me at a young age... emotions will KILL us in a deal. I have been there myself w/ a red 68 Chevelle I HAD TO HAVE.... years & thousands later, it was a nice car. I got punk'd by my own emotions. It kills me that somone can mis-represent what they are selling... they know it is not totally right... but sell it as if it were a 9+ out of a 10 showcar. Somehow these people sleep at night too. WTH?

I've seen the pic's. Looks like a nice truck. HE SAID IN THE AD "not perfect, but pretty darn close". He said not perfect, did you expect perfect? Sorry, I don't think you have a complaint. Hopefully you learned something?
Let the buyer beware... But, I would not fork over $28K without someone I trust looking at it.

If you want another red chevelle..it just so happens that the best working ,NA,bolt on suspension, small tire, chevelle in the country is for sale right now.
No dominator, no tubular countrol arms, no nitrous, factory shifter, power steering, 3871 lbs,and the battery AINT IN THE TRUNK!!
Anyone who disagrees is just another nobody who don't know shit, aint done shit, and aint got shit...or something like that. :P

I realize he did say the paint was not perfect but darn close. And in the car world, you know as well as I know that "darn close" is at least an 8. Yes, the pics do look good, but this truck isnt even a 10 footer. The paint in my opinion, and the 2 body men, who have looked at it say its maybe a 5, and that might be streatching it!!
anadamo - I'm not waa, waa'ing, as you put it, just letting you know that if he ever sells another vehicle on RJ better not take his word for anything!!
The MONEY isnt the issue, the integrity of a man's word is!!

I've watched this whole thread from the beginning, and my response really doen't mean much to the buyer. BUT! he really got what what he paid for. A (5) in the paint job by one of his own friends, hey he's not buying a Chip Foose paint job here for $28,000.00, body work is hard to see in the photo's. The only thing that troubles me is the subframe installation that's obviously installed 2"/2 1/2" off center. That's not right in anyone's book.
To me the truck is beautiful and showable, piece of s*it NOT. I donot know what the buyer expected to get for $28,000.00 but i just sold a 55 chevy on ebay for $37,000.00 and it too wasn't perfect. I also turned down 4 bids for a little less.
IMO, the buyer needs to realize what he's buying here, as listed not perfect.

i agree with zipper06, from what i can see, its lookin preety good. paint issue aside its a good lookin truck.i would fix the subframe shoot some paint and be happy as hell. i think the truck is well worth 28,000. if i was selling it id say its got some problems with this and that, but 28,000 is where its at.

Ok, before when I tried to see the ad it wouldn't come up...now it does.
Iagree with Zip...You must be hard to please...especially when you DID NOT go look at it yourself. A truck like that took a lot of work to build so 28 grand does not seem unreasonable.
I don't get what you guys are saying about the subframe being off center?? what pic shows that? Are you refering the the wheel being centered in the opening? just curious.
edit: If you mean the rear end then yeah I see that...thought subframe was refering to front clip.

Coolest truck on the planet? Nope.
Piss poor craftsmanship on the rear suspension? Yep
Wether it is was worth 28k, plus shipping? Depends,
I'm sure you thought it was a good deal or you wouldnt have bought it in the first place, correct?
Always remember the definetion of a good deal is that when both parties think the other guy got screwed, so perhaps you didn't get such a "good deal" this time but instead, you got what you paid for. You win some you lose some. If your not happy with the truck then you have options. Personally I'd quit whinning about it and move on, your not gonna get much sympathy here, just honest opinions especially since you didnt even take the time to go look at the truck in person. Buying a vehicle sight unseen is never a good idea.
You can sell it and try to recoup your funds or you can fix the things that you dont like about it. JMO

Hey Todd,
The ad said it had a Camero front subframe, if the passenger right front wheel is 3 to 4" more inside the right front fender(the buyer stated this in his post) then the sub frame must be installed off center. The Camero subframes are used a lot on the early front conversions on old trucks. We have one under way now a 1948 Ford pickup.
The problem is a lot of people cut both the front end off and the rearend off at the same time taking away the tooling points on the frame and they have no good measuring points on the frame.
I think that's what happened here, but that's JMO.

I just had to bring this post back up because he says it was nothing but a garage paint job. well my friend we have a 1951 ford almost finished, just liking the bed and some trim assembly. It has a chrysler torsion front end. But OMG it has a garage paint job, that i challenge you to find flaws. But like i say the bed is yet to be finished. I personally would compare it to any vehicle that Chip Foose ever did. no it's not for sale, it's a customer vehicle, but if i were to put a price tag on it, i think it's worth over $35,000.00 It's dusty because we are also working on the 2nd most popular ford pickup ever a 1956, in the background.

I have put on some pretty slick paint in a garage..
My father and I started a 53 Ford f100 a couple years ago but it has been put on the back burner for awhile. We chopped the top 5 inches and channeled it 6 inches...Put a camaro clip on the frame and used a 12 bolt rear end from a 67 el camino and fabricated the mounting points for the camino control arms and coil springs.
good looking truck ZIPPER.
