Tried it and had trouble with oil temperature. water would run 190 and oil would go over 280 and keep going i guess, always shut if off and cooled it off. i would not do it again.

Did you have an external oil cooler or do you think that would of make much difference?

tried a large external oil cooler and then a radiator with a heat exchanger in it. neither stopped the problem, only slowed down the process some. the guy i sold it to ended up changing the block to fix the problem.

wish i had seen this a week ago! just bought a new 10.2 block and plan to fill it. I only use it for 200' mud drags, may have been perfect.

You should be fine, we tried it this year in a circle track engine, filled the 400 block half full with hard block, engine runs cooler, and oil temp has not been an issue.
But that was our combination
